  • I accidentally put dirty fuel into my mower; watched your vid and repeated the steps now it's running like a charm, thanks.

  • i like your vidoe

  • Even this is 2 years old the lawn mower this person working on can be done to all same type of engine that has this type of set-up.

  • @MileyCyrus192 ....says miley cyrus......

  • Had to do this recently...some mechanical aptitude but this helped a lot! Well played sir!!

  • Thanks for the video! Well done!

  • I have a weedeater 500 push mower. It wouldn't run. I didn't realize that gas when "bad" after 30 days. I removed a part that was above the gas tank, opened it up & it had a sponge like thing in it. It was gunky. I cleaned it. I then removed & emptied gas tank. I cleaned the spark plug. I think my machine's parts are diff from the vid. But thanks to what I did learn, I got my mower running. Shops charge the cost of a mower to fix this problem, so I'm happy, It is running great now. Thank you!

  • Good video, seems tthe mechanic guy is very profesional.

  • I took the cup off and cleaned as you said, and trashed the old gas, out a new ring on and put it back together and bought new gas, and off it went!

    thanks!

  • To clean correctly and all the way, remove the carb. You may get away with it ON the engine, but, to do it right and all the way, remove it. Don't turn the fuel inlet elbow while removing fuel line. If it turns, it probably will leak. Replacement is possible on Tecumseh carbs but can't be done by you. Replace fuel line if gummy, hard or cracked. Clean gas tank. No use cleaning carb and not cleaning the tank. internationaldave@gmail.com for help.

  • If you are going to remove the bowl, you are going to clean it anyway. There is a tool that has various size wires for cleaning jets. "Clicking" needle/seat? Hmmm. He didn't even touch the idle circuit. There was no reason to replace the bowl. Didn't adjust the float level. Not many people realize there is an idle circuit. When your engine is running, move the throttle by hand down to idle. If it dies, idle circuit plugged. Must be cleaned. Will run lean (hot) if not clean.

  • Thanks a lot for this. Many should really benefit from this tutorial. Many lawn mower owners thought that this is that hard but once you let your hands dirty and follow your steps here then they'll do fine. This lawn mower parts shop might also be of help to many lawn mower owners. Visit lawneq.com

  • Thank you so much !! This video saved me so much money... I was going to buy a new mower or get some guy to fix it ( at an outrageous cost). Now my mower is running good as new!! Thanks again

  • THIS helped me sooo much, THANK YOU!

Could you make some on weed eater repair? I have an Echo. I had to change the bulb on it and used a universal one, now it over fills it when I add fuel, so it floods. I am going to order a new ECHO one to see if that is the only issue.

Any hoot!, this is a perfect video! close ups, all questions answered and fully understandable.

  • Great information, very usefull for the handyman or even experienced mechanics.

    Gr. André Inframachinery

PS keep up posting such info movies!

  • Thank you, I was able to fix my lawn mower!

  • Thanks! I couldn't figure out why gas kept leaking out the air filter but this totally fixed the problem!!!

  • wow ... thanks u so much ... :) ...

  • Please post more vids

  • Awesome, thanks for the video , i knew nothing of small engines and now have my mower running. great videos

  • Great video. Very Informative. Good video work by getting in close and not forgetting to describe any steps that you are performing. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

  • I watched this last night, got some guidance and ideas, went to my garage this morning and FIXED MY MOWER!!!! Awesome how-to.....THANKS!

  • hello i was wondering my trottle is complety rusted how do i get the rust iff it so it will work properly

  • Thank you for posting this.I replaced my spark plug and replaced the fuel and was getting nothing. Then after watching your video, I went and cleaned my carburator and wala, it worked like a champ again.......

  • My lawnmower starts ok but after five seconds the engine slows down and it sound like its choking and its also blowing thick black smoke. It does not have enough power to cut grass.I went to sears and bought tune up kit which includes air filter and spark plugs but that didnt solve the problem. What do you think is the problem?

  • @funtime1324 ive got the same problem with mine without teh black smoke, what one mechanic said was that the carburetor is all cloged up and wont let enough fuel in to keep it running. try cleaning it out, its what im doing.

  • @funtime1324 It sounds like your carburetor diaphragm.

  • While sidewalk shopping I acquired discarded craftsman mower, and I found this great video. Another man's junk is my treasure; it works after I cleaned the carburetor. Thanks for the video!

  • Lawnmower - FIXED

  • Thats one thing I like about tecumseh engines they are so easy to work on. I have a mower with a tecumseh engine and it had been running strong for over 15 years. My 2 year old Briggs engine threw a rod. Funny thing is that I took better care of the Briggs engine while it lasted. I left the tecumseh out in the rain many times. Guess what mower is sitting in the rain now. The Briggs!

  • THANK YOU! You have the simplest, most "self-explanatory" video about how to take apart a lawn mower carburetor and clean it that I have found on youtube - I came "this close" to taking it and getting it repaired, probably for three-fifths the cost of a brand new one - but I followed your instructions and my lawn mower is running again - after 2 weeks of @#$%ing with it. You saved me $100 and I thank you!

  • thanks. never thought it was that easy.

  • Thanks, your the man.

  • Thanks got mine going because of this video, I happen to have the same mower.

  • What kind of gloves are those?

  • need help my mower is not getting fuel into the carb does anybody know what i can do its a Briggs & Stratton ??????

  • @adrmar7 Is the fuel coming out of the tube from the gas tank? Message me and I may be able to help.

  • @adrmar7 check your fuel lines. if there is nothing wrong with them then clean out your carb.

  • Great video! I'm going to try my hand at it today.

  • Good, clear video on how to clean and/or change the bowl and gasket not the actual carburetor. Please specify on your title. Thx

  • Thank you sooo much i was trying for days to get it working and this helped a lot.

  • Nice clear tips, I now have a running mower :)

  • incomplete.....

  • worked great

  • awesome video. Can't wait to get home to start on this project. Very good instructions. God Bless you!

  • Had about given up. I could keep it running with starting fluid in the intake. But as sonn as I would stop , it would stop. Excellent. I don't think mine ran this good new.

  • Very helpful - worked like a champ for me. However, I'm lazy - instead of disconnecting the gas tank, I just turned the thing on it's side. Worked fine.

  • WORKED PERFECT, POLLEN WAS FLOATING IN THE TUB

  • My float doesn't click like yours does. Could this be the cause why my mower won't start?

  • thank you so much. this helped a lot. God Bless.

  • My uncle gave me a little yellow can called - start your engines. Poured it in, pulled the chord and BOOM. Started right up!! My engine's not starting again this spring, so I might try this way instead of getting another bottle. Thanks!

  • thanks this helped, i have a craftsman walkbehind and it was having trouble last fall starting. I seemed to help by wiggling the spark plug wire. Well this year before the grass starts growing I bought a tune up kit (oil, plug, filter, gas stab.) After putting all that stuff in the mower except stab. it still wouldnt start so i saw your video and just pulled that screw out and let some gas drain and i cleand the wholes out of that screw and bam it started up. Thanks you saved me buyinng new LM

  • yeah i need a video on the classic briggs stratton engine

  • yeah i need a videoon the classic bs engine

  • if you need help please send me an email and tell me what the problem is and what we are dealing with and tell me what the problem is like wont start and i will be happy to help you for free please send me an email methylcyclopentadieny@yahoo.com

  • great video. but I need help pulled off the linkage but cant remember how the go back on. can anyone help please

  • Good info. Thanks for the for.

  • u have a snap on toolchest but not a ratcheting wrench what happend

  • Thanks for this video! I'm searching for some good lawn mower and i came at blackanddeckerlawnmowerreviews.co.cc while googling and it helped me decide which i had to buy :)

  • Hello eHow my name is Joe i'm i need help please email me at thanks...

  • Way too much time spent on the bowl bolt. Just remember this, if you can see through it, it isn't clogged. Pretty simple. One thing to do with the float, remove it and shake it a little, just to be sure it hasn't over the years got a crack in it and allowed fuel to soak into it. If you have a cork type float, just replace it. Juicyohso, you're right, always remove float and needle, not only to be sure it's clean but to be sure needle seat is still in good condition.

  • Great video, told me what i needed to know about fixing up a problem I had with the engine continuously stalling. Ran like new after this. Thanks for the great vid

  • Comment removed

  • bel video complimenti

  • i would have removed the float assembly and needle valve, there could be lots of dirt etc on the seat and cause you no end of problems

  • carburetors suck. most common cause of failure.

    worst invention by man.

  • dude what kinda gloves do ya use?

  • @bubbawinchester use vinyl gloves, not latex

  • what kinda gloves are those? do they hold up good? i go though about ten pairs of nitrile gloves a day if i wear gloves all day cuz the carb cleaner weakens them

  • Mark, you saved my mower! I only made it to 2:39sec....sure enough a tiny speck of lacquer was going into the main jet. Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU!

  • dont forget the side holes when cleaning the jet , and also take and airpick and blow the sucker out, with air but spray first with some carb cleaner after you clean all the jet holes.that click does not alway mean the gasket is sealing against the pin,and yes the bolw oring gaskets do rot or dry out ,primer bulbs also stiffen up and no longer work also can crack and leak so check the primer bulb as well, when clenaing the carb make sure its also ok ,

  • Mark Bower, sir, you are my new best friend!! Thanks for the great video!!

  • Thanks. My mower has given me fits. It's problematic to get it to a repair place so if I can fix it myself I will be uber-happy! Stay tuned.

  • Thanks for all of your videos. You have no idea how much this helps us weekend warriors.

  • Thank you, this worked!!!

  • Thank you - just one thing you could mention is tl replace the small o-ring or flat round gadget for the jet removed - I am not trying to discount you what so ever but some people may not realize the lack of reinstalling the new one. Cheers and thank you for taking your time to help all of us.....

  • Thank you very much. I fixed my lawnmower myself thanks to you and your video. A few years ago, my carburetor got clogged and the lawmower repair shop charged me over $80 to take apart and clean, etc. This cost me NOTHING and it only took me about 20 minutes. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that value. Keep up the good work

  • thanks so much for this video :) Next time my mower breaks (hopefully it won't) i'll be able to do fix it myself!

  • Even a 1/2 inch socket wrench will work. I tried it. and was successful

  • i ran over a bunny rabbit on purpose with my lawn mower because it didn't move and now my lawn mower doesn't start. How do i fix it?

  • @dv122 tell the bunny your sorry then it will start

  • those gloves are sexy

  • Holy Cow!! I'm a total goof as far as being able to fix anything and I was able to do exactly what you said and low and behold my lawn mower runs. It was doing the run 2 seconds and then die with no chance of staying running unless you pump the bulb...and it's kinda hard to actually mow that way! I was ready to beat it into a pulp and then burn it. It was the only thing that could possibly bring me satisfaction for my mower has done this to me for years!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

  • YOU ROCK MY FACE OFF! I'm fairly mechanically inclined managed to get the carb apart the first time hardcore cleaned out the whole thing...................and overlooked the tiny port near the end of the threads on the main jet(DOH) Thanks alot! You're video saved me $

  • I have a push mower like that one and will remember this when I clean it up. Thank you so much for placing this video up for everyone to see.

  • haha take the wire and poke it in and out of the holeXD lol im perverted

  • Thanks For The Informative Video ... The Mower No Longer Needs A Shop Repair. Simple CarbCleanedAnd It Works Like New.

  • Great video - clear, informative and helpful. Thanks!

  • Good stuff !....saved me another $80.00 repair Bill..... very much appreciated !

  • Did he saw what kind of gloves those are?

  • help!

carb on weedwhacker won't suck gas from tank. Just makes a squeaky, sucking noise.

    Any advice?

  • @mcraelandscaping the float needle sounds stuck to me. the card basically closed shut.

  • Excellent video, clearly explained and I was easily able to do this quickly (for a non-mechanical person, got it done in 15 minutes). Thanks.

  • I wanted to thank you for showing me the wire clean out... It was easy.

Just fixed a 6HP rear bagger, am thrilled!!!

Thanks for posting, sharing your time.

  • There were a couple more 'jets', ports, whatever you call them.

The primer bulb air duct(?) to the main jet was clogged, too.

(used a twist tie wire for that)

Fast and easy, once I watched this.

    Started right up.

It originally only started by dumping a capful of gas in the carb.

It was offered Free, a 'trashed' mower. Again, Thanks!

  • Great video! I just happened to have that exact same mower. My mower is now up and running great. Thank you!

  • Would this work for me?

I didn't know but all summer I was useing mixed gas for a sled. Ooops. And now that spring is here it won't start...when I prime it, I don't hear gas going in.???

  • How do you repair a lanwmower when you have pour too much oil in it? I did it by mistake and now it is not starting since the day I did it, I guess its over. Help please!

  • @MessivoKaxto drain and refill with correct amount...then try to start

  • Well done video! I'm not keen on taking my entire carburetor apart if just cleaning the jets will do the trick. Another repairman recommended using a toothpick to clean the jets instead of a wire.

  • I'm sorry this guy is a serious idiot who knows very little about what he is doing. Apart from the fact that carburettor should be removed to properly clean it..YOU NEVER CLEAN ANY CARBURETOR JETS BY POKING THEM WITH WIRE. If you do have to poke them you use NYLON bristle,If you start poking around with bits of wire you will damage the very accurate metering of the jet holes and throw the the whole carburetor out of calibration

  • nice shorts

  • wow now i know who not to pay to tune up my lawn mower lol i always take the carb off the motor and clean every jet and passage not saying how you do it is bad but thats almost a half-ass way of doing it

  • cool video I need to do my brothers in law Thanks for the help ,eyeboltman2

  • After i start a blump nose and Also black smoke coming out of muffler how do i solve this problem?

    Steve

  • This actually worked. Just cleaned that screw and then put starter fluid on the filter and on the carb, now its fine.

  • WTF. wait a minute. You didn't even remove the carb!! All you did was take off the bowl. What about the interior of the carburetor???????? There are pins and more inside by the primer bulb.

  • This was so good and you are a good teacher.

  • Thank You for the video. I watched it once then tried it on my mower. Mower is running perfectly now.

  • @ninjato1979 This method did the trick, my lawnmower started right up. I ended up reusing the original gasket as it was still in good condition. If some of it sticks to the nut when removed, you should replace it. The gas in my tank was yellow and smelled bad as he mentions in the video. I'll be sure to run the tank dry in fall to avoid having to clean the carburetor again. Good luck with yours.

  • my gas powered weed eater will only run as long as you pump the bulb, whats wrong

  • Thanks a million for this video!

You just saved me some money and these days thats a big deal.

    Regards!

  • This worked like a charm. Saved me $90.00 plus I did not have to wait 3 weeks to get it repaired as everyone has their lawn mower in the shop.

To clean the main jet in the carb I used brushpicks which can be found in the denal aisle in walmart or target

  • Thank you very very much. I have never done this before, but your video gave me the confidence I needed to clean the carburetor. The bowl had what looked like yellow resin rocks inside when I took it off. Now it works great.

  • Thank you so much! Lost my dad in Sept 09 and along with him went his knowledge of everything mechanic and my only source. I was able to clean the carburetor and fix the mower, even though I'm not really mechanically inclined.. and a girl! Thanks again.

  • Thank you so much...I used old gas and didn't know how to get to the carb. Appreciate your video!!

  • Great Video! Thanks so much for the help. This worked right away and saved me a lot of money.

  • Nice video!

  • dude this is really an outstanding video because I tried to start my friends mower and water got in the carburetor and had to clean it Thanks A Bunch!

  • Great video.

  • so many bad videos, this one is very well detailed and clear, thanks!

  • Thanks so much. i know now that i need to clean the main jet too. i have the same engine as you. Just be careful because that carb cleaner will eat up the plastic float inside of the bowl.

  • That was WAY better than a couple other videos out there. Great job, and thanks for posting.

  • nice jorts

  • dude you r outstanding!!!! thanx to you is also was able to fix my mower.

  • dude!!! u saved me some money thank you!! my tecamesh would not start. i almost bought a new mower.. i knew it had to be a simple fix,but i didnt know where to start.. thanks to your video, i saved some money.

  • DUDE!!! You just saved me a $70 bench fee. This cured my problem instantly.

THANK YOU, thank you, thank you!

Sorry there are so many whiny ungrateful douchebags in the comment section. You just put money in my pocket.

  • that was useless, you didnt even clean the needle or seat. there was nothing wrong with either the bowl or o ring. anyone wanting to fix there carb learned nothing but to clean the main jet.

  • Colby...at least he went through the trouble to produce a video and post it to youtube, sharing with many the knowledge he has, which I must say is very helpful to me. Instead of criticizing, why don't you do the same thing he did and show everyone what you are talking about??? I would appreciate it and I bet others would to, and you would understand how good it feels to help others.

  • @akzuniga your right, but i dont know how. i look here to learn things myself. but all i seem to find is vids like these. there is much more to cleaning your carb than this. i am glad this vid helped you though.

  • aaahhhaaa gloves baby

  • thanks your are a life saver

  • i have to clean my carb......tommorrow(im rebuilding a old tecumseh)

  • that guy has short shorts on he looks gay lol

  • fixed my mower.......... thank you

  • is it ok to use a car carb cleaner on a 2 stroke engine carb?

  • You can use spray carb cleaner to clean it.after you take it apart. I would not put it the gas if that is what you mean.

  • @songz15love ya but not on plastic float carbs

  • Comment removed

  • Excellent Video! Fixed a leaf blower that had not blown in years thanks to your video. Five Stars from me!

  • @Yamaha125Honda250 If you are talking about the newer style Quatro briggs plastic carbs, You are better off just replacing the carb for under $20.

  • @bearclawmoto No, I would remove the carb. Clean it in the carb solvent tank. Replace the needle and seat. Replace the main fuel dump tube o'rings and all gaskets.. The demo was for a simple cleaning. It would apply to a lot of carbs. If I tried to show the rebuild process on this carb it would take longer than 5 minutes. If I showed the removal most people would never get the linkages and springs back together correctly.I do clean the carb as part of a routine service. Thank for your input.

  • thank you for the post

  • where can u get parts for that carburetor? do u know

  • @audisli Any Tecumseh dealer or after market like Oregon or Stens

  • Wow! After replacing everything else and still having my mower die - your video did the trick! Now the thing starts up on the first pull!

Also - it was easier for me to just leave the gas tank and not have to worry about breaking/replacing the clamp. I just let the gas drain out through the bottom of the carborator and took it from there.

    Thanks so very much!!!

  • interesting, I viewed the same video on my Cell phone and there is no add at the start of the video

  • There is no reason for not cleaning the bowl, waste of money on the customers part. Its not dented or holes in it, so why replace it? The whole 30 seconds it would have taken to clean it and reinstall it. Good tutorial though.

  • I replaced the bowl because of corrosion on the gasket sealing area not the little bit of stuff in the bowl. If you clean it it will corrode in half the time of a new one. Notice the white crusty stuff on the gasket. I don't want any comebacks. Thanks for looking.

  • Thanks for this great tutorial! I'll be cleaning my mower's carb soon because of your help.

  • I wish I had taken small engine maintenance and repair rather than home economics in high school. You can buy a batch of brownies at the market for $2.00, but the repair I just did on my lawnmower was going to cost over $95.00. This is BY FAR the best video I found on cleaning a mower carburetor. Thanks for showing me how to save nearly a hundred bucks and giving me the information and confidence to repair something I've never considered being able to fix before. Many thanks!

  • Question: what would cause gas to come out of the air filter when you push that red rubber injector button? I'll look for your response. Great video, BTW. You should teach.

  • WOW very nice tutorial... I like how your work environment was clean and you explained everything you were doing..... Great Job.

  • thank you, thank you, thank, you so much for putting this video out there.

you helped me to crank up my lawn mower once again and do my regular chore so much easier.

your video is so much clear and easy to follow direction. i can see you are a pro.

    thanks, once again!

  • very good tutorial thank you.i have one 5hp engine and i adjust it from scratch but finally nothing then i realized that fuel didnt come up to the maniflod and i said that carburator is dirty and youhelp very much thank you but is it nessesery to change the ring?

  • Very good demostration and is very accurate!
