Just days after he won the USA he was diagnosed with leukemia. He did the treatments and was cured but his bodybuilding career after that never recovered. There have been studies that suggested a link between HGH use and leukemia.
And consider the reality that less than a month later he was in the hospital emergency room with leukemia so advanced that it was touch and go whether he would survive.
