  • stop fucking comparing her to bjork, they are two different artists which are amazing in their own way.

  • I wish I could meet a woman like Natasha Kahn or Bjork.

  • I wish I could meet a woman like Natasha Kahn or Bjork.

  • I kinda hate the recorded version of Sarah, but I like it live.

  • @razorbladekisses101 Haaha|! oh how much I skip it when I play the cd. The live version is awesome.

  • @Elyzater I know, right? I just cant listen to it.haha.

  • what kind of indian thing in her music and art?

  • Who is Bjork ? Who is Kate Nash ?

This is Bat For Lashes !

  • who are you?... a kiddie?...of course this is bat for lashes...but you should check bjork and kate bush work before natasha khan...and have more respect for music....natasha would do it. ;)

  • I just have a problem with the people that say "Bat for Lashes is just a copy of Kate Nash and/or Bjork". I never said that I don't respect the music of Bjork or someone else, no, I really like their music.

I hope now you understand what the kiddie means, even though my english is horrible ^^

  • ups...sorry , my mistake..I thought you said a different thing.. but anyway...who the hell is KATE NASH?....¿?

  • ups...sorry , my mistake.. I meant Kate Bush. ^^'

So many Kates, it's hard not to get confused ;-D

  • Comment removed

  • @tonysodano those could be her inspirations but that doesn't mean shes ripping off of them. She still has a unique flare to her music.

  • wanker

  • i think shes brilliant - it is lazy and in some cases a tad sexist to say that shes a clone of bjork; i mean there are thousands of these 'critically acclaimed' bands who all sound the same but it never gets said

dont forget that they once said bob dylan was a rip off of woody guthrie

  • she looks gorgeous in this

  • She's always gorgeous.

  • Natasha One of the best female vocalists IMO.

She is in the same league as Kate Bush, Anne Lennox, Siouxsie Sioux, Enya, Lisa Gerrard, Bjork, and a few others.

She is a beautiful person in every way and her music is awesome, beautiful, poetic audial *ART* IMO.

  • Add Sandy Denny and early Kate Rusby, especially a track like Sleep Alone, even early Grace Slick. Her voice evokes many influences, Julee Cruise, Liz Frazer (Cocteau Twins), Melanie Safka (Lovin Baby Girl) and Edith Frost. I think shes amazing. Oh forgot, also the singer from All About Eve. Moon and Moon, got to admit that is very Kate Bush, but theres nothing wrong with that, she admits that she likes Bush & Bjork. Keep it going Natasha and dont forget to play the next Electric Picnic.

  • i completely dissagree with you. her new album sounds fantastic, from what i've heard anyway - can't wait for it to be released

  • What is the instrument used at 3.25? anyone know? x

  • I believe that's a Chorded Zither

  • Wow, what an interesting artist, need to watch more of her

  • hermosa,preciosa,sabrosa!!!!

  • wow

  • She's simply a genious.

  • a lot of people hate her but why? i dont think her music is pretencious or trying too hard to be 'quirky'

  • Do people NEED a reason? Some people just hate and they don't even know why. Oh well Have you seen this woman's legs?? WOW heavenly

  • feel free to notice that what she is wearing in this video a year an half ago is in style this summer. She's a trend starter and her clothes are wonderful. She is also a musician and the "simple, monotone color look" is probably boring and unappealing. It pays to be remembered, and boring looks won't do that.

  • she's damnnnn cute

  • Wow what a talented young artist. I wish they would give creative new artists like Bat for Lashes more air time on the radio and stop beating the death out of the same old songs.

  • yes, but then they'd start beating her songs to death. thats why i don't listen to the radio anymore. its killing me.

besides, it's kinda nice to have a band that no one knows about. Its like being in on a secret. you feel like you can relate to everyone in their fan base.

  • schwah?

  • Here's hoping they can resolve their differences in the domain of language, without recourse to violence.

  • Shes nothing like Bjork she's doing her own thing, there's no need to always compare artists soon as anyone does anything different its like they aren't allowed to be unique they must be compared.

  • I saw them live in Vancouver... absolutely magical

  • I'll be honest when It comes to all girl band I'm a chauvinist pig, but I'm intrigued about this one.

  • First off an amazing voice, and second Mmmmmmmmm.

  • i <3 u bat 4 lashes

  • ... i didnt even think that it was sexist... just goes to show you anyone who manages to point that out is a sexist themselves because theyre just looking to point something out that they think is based on gender when really nobody is thinking about that

  • When people say Bjork as an influence it doesn't necessarily mean vocally or a rip-off. They're just stating that at least a slight influence is there. Sinead O'Connor,Cat Power, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Bjork....yada yada yada. Either way she's influenced by SOMEBODY....perhaps all of these ladies rolled into one.

  • I've always thought it slightly sexist that whenever there's a new female artists, she is immediately compared to previous female artists and is assumed to be influenced by them. But I mgiht be over-reacting.

  • I definitely agree with this comment. Female artists aren't being taken seriously enough. The media is also more concerned about their personal lives and relationships in comparison to their talents. Both Bjork and Bat for Lashes are both spectacular and original artists in their own regards.

  • Thanks! Nice to know I'm not totally insane.

  • HAH! I totally know what she was saying about feeling like you're in music class with a bunch of instruments. Everyone always fought over the xylophone.

  • I think this is fantastic. I'm going to purchase the album. The most original sound / image I've seen in a long time. You should have won the Mercury Prize in my opinion.

  • Great intro to Bat for Lashes. Brilliant.

    I am now a fan.

  • she has big dreamy eyes

  • just saw a performance on tv here in Belgium "London Live", and was fascinated by her and the music...she's mesmerizing, Looks reminds me of early Ian Astbury ;-)

  • Caught them in San Francisco. Great sound. Mesmerizing performance really.

  • i guess she is a big fan of bjork

  • to me she's a cross between sinead o'connor and siouxie sue ... but she's up for Mercury Award - i guess critics must think that she's original :)

  • Oh my, wonderful

  • like like like : )

  • im really excited by these guys, think i'll go get the album tommorow.

  • She's like lily allen meets a moomin. I heard she was related to genghis khan... Love the music, but i've gotta learn that listening to musician talk about themselves, or their music is generally disappointing...

  • 'related to Genghis Khan' is a lot like saying 'I'm descended from King Arthur.' All the same, her music is fantastic, and she can produce this rather otherworldly quality sometimes (though not at others, oddly).

  • i hear the bjork influence in her voice on the last song performed in this video. but seriously. she fucking throws it back all the way to Nico in the 60's and it is rad!!

  • cool unique stuff - way apart from anything mainstream, certainly

  • i dont think she sounds like bjork in the slightest, and i dont think its fair to say she does, bjork has a talent for music most people only get to dream of, and is one of the few artists on the planet with full artistic control. bat for lashes reminds me more of sonic youth mixed with Mama's & The Papa's..

i think people need to stop comparing and just be happy that there is cool music like this in the world.. or we could all listen to mainstream pop

  • Ditto!

  • The only similarity I can see between her and Bjork is that they are both female non-mainstream musicians, but "sonic youth mixed with Mama's & The Papa's", I like that....

  • Id well do her again

  • Apparently she's related to former Squash World Champion Jahangir Khan - generally thought to be the greates player of all time

  • I heard she was related to Chaka Khan...

  • So pretty and mysterious, can I be your boyfriend, so we can sing the song of the great horned owl together? Oh wait, I forgot, I hate hippies.

  • Larf!

  • hehe!

  • she sure is pretty!

  • your the girl i always wanted to meet

  • What a rip off!!! I just read an article in Interview where she says that Bjork came to a concert of hers and told her that she will find her own voice someday!Obviously even Bjork can see that this chick is copying her sound and singing style. She is no better than a Bjork version of an Elvis impersonator! I am actually embarassed for this girl. Bat for Lashes needs to find her own voice and her own sound. She even sounds like Bjork when explaining her music. It's kinda creepy and sad.

  • i think she sounds more like cat power then like björk, and cat power doesn't sound like björk

  • i can see the cat power but don't you think that her singing style bears striking similarity to Bjork? Either way shes not very original

  • What a rip off???? what are you talking about?

    She speaks like Bjork??

Natasha is a fucking Londoner.... how can she sounds like Bjork who always talk like a proper foreigner...with strong and weird accent...

  • I'm talking about in the way she decribes her music not about her accent. I'm know the difference between and english accent and an icelandic one

  • so maybe you're right and she speaks like björk and sound a litte bit like a mix from björk / cat power

    but so what ?

The Songs are still very unique when it comes to the Soundstructure, like rhythm and message in the lyrics.

Everyone has influences ... you need to go back to the 1920's or so, if you want to find an artist who hasn't been influenced by others.

  • There is even the possibility that someone accidentally sounded like someone else, just because they experienced similar things ... but i see you're point ... but i find the music of bat for lashes still better then most of the other stuff around at the moment

  • Good one! zone66!

yeah, that's exactlly what i wanted to say.

People can sometimes be so lack of imagination; when some weird girl singer pops out they cannot stop comparing her with Bjork....

I don't even think she sounds like Bjork.

People should learn more about singer like Shangri-Las.... She actually sounds more like Shangri-Las 100 times more than Bjork....

Anyhow, really Bat For Lashes is still very very unique and original!!! I love their music!

  • Yes some people can be so lack of imagination! I'm am very familiar with the work of the sixtes girl group the Shangri-la's they were brillant. But, I personally think that she sounds like a Bjork wanna be. That's the great thing about opinions everyone gets to have one!

  • You mean the whinny sappy idealistic hippie college crap style that you find in most dives around the colleges and in coffee joints that includes the likes of Alanis, and Arvil Lavine (before her "Girlfriend Video) and the Cranberries?. Naw, as a Bjork fan I can say that this girl sounds nothing like Bjork in style or feel.

  • Agreed. She sounds very different to Bjork and the Bjork tag is just muso journalists being lazy. She sounds closer to Cat Power than Bjork, but even then its hardly an accrate comparison.

  • And for the record, i prefer Bat For Lashes to Bjork at this moment. Only time will tell if Bat For Lashes will disappear up their own arses on their 2nd album. Though 'Debut' was stunningly brilliant, much of what followed was cack.

  • Post was a much more fully realized album than Debut, which was basically a house record with a tuba.

Fur and Gold is much better than Björk's effort this year anyway.

  • I agree, i thought eaxactly the same thing. I love bjork, but i do think natasha khan's over taking her in originality stakes. Bjorks 2007 album sounded bland, and boring in comparison. Shes lost her sparkle that made me love her in the first place. Im afraid Bat for lashes gonna fill that gap these days.

  • omg! thats incredible you can say that! She is NOTHING like bjork, who i also think is awesome. She sounds totally different, way more percussive and more like Stevie Nicks or someone..way more magically and faery strange, maybe she just sounds like her. I mean she speaks like she sings.

  • Wow I'm in love with this music for days now !!!

  • I'm in love with her voice & the mysticism that which seems to infuse her music.

  • cat power, bjork, pj haryvey, and jenny lewis, batgirl got it all!

  • sounds like catpower voice..A LOT

  • Go Tash !

    xxx

  • Wicked new bread of music good on her!

  • Some twat-y comments I see...

Long live Bat for Lashes...She's cross between, Bjork & PJ Harvey (just my comparisons). MMMmmwah!

  • She talk like Bjork!!!

  • By the way, did anyone else notice Bjork in the Audience at the recent Bat for lashes gig at the Scala?

  • Although you are free to your opinion, your personal, aggressive and insulting manner make me believe that Bat for Lashes would be much better of without you negative aura around there beautiful music.

  • If it fails to spark something in us, we are simply uninterested and thus deem it not to our taste. Bat for Lashes has clearly caused a spark within you and has therefore succeeded in producing thought provoking artistic expression. Regardless of other artisits that exist and perhaps seem on the surface to be similar, we should look at each artist as an individual.

  • That guy was being a twat...but I'm afraid I kinda agree. She's spent so much time thinking about crazy ways to record and cultivating an interesting image that she forgot to write good songs. The music just sounds like a collection of concepts and ideas with nothing behind it

  • has that nutter stopped patrolling the joint? down with the bat hater, long live Bat for Lashes.

  • I don't think you are qualified to tell me what is going on in my life. I have seen Bat for Lashes who in my opinion is enchanting live, I have seen Cat Power, Bjork, Tom Waits, Sufjan Stevens, Bob Dylan, 65 Days of Static, Squarepusher, Diplo, Jamie Lidell, Solomon Burke in the past few years in the polluted space you call London. They have all blown my mind. Freedom of speech ... as we were saying. You have had your say, you don't like Bat for Lashes. Fair enough.

  • This is some of the best music to come around in quite a long time...she comes from Kate Bush, Bjork, Roisin Murphy, Nicola Hitchcock, and the fierce ghetto bitches of Norway!

I can see the Cat Power comparisons, pine tree berry, but really...they're different planets.

    No apologies...it's brilliant.

  • No need for apologies your buying the shit. How can she come from all those people you mentioned above. Do you mean copying Kate Bush and Bjork. Its just not original and her sloaney accent is so annoying and uncool. Boring imature crap....

  • It's the freshest sound of the year.

  • What like London pollution. You need to get out there and get serious about your musical taste. Travel a bit. See more live bands. This band is doing absolutely nothing new or interesting. Its really desperate.

  • I don't think you are qualified to tell me what is going on in my life. • Sloany accent? Would you prefer her to put on a fake one? You make huge assumptions about her background. That's how she talks. Who cares? The fact that you question her as an artist based on her accent is ridiculous. Uncool? You are clearly very pretentious. Although by the sounds of your comments, you might take that as a compliment. Cool is not something you can be on purpose. The whole definition of the word rests on being admired without trying.

  • So well said. Thank you.

  • I love Roisin Murphy, who is Nicola Hitchcock and the fierse ghetto bitches from Norway?

  • Sounds like a cosmetic company. Very silly desperate band. Another upper class snobby sounding air head. Jesus whats happening to music. Bland mindless and empty for words. This girl should get into another profession like knitting or graphic design.

  • Your comments are utterly stupid and unfounded. You sound like some jealous ugly frumpy person who needs to get out more and get a life. She is miles better than Cat Power, unless you are boring and out of touch like you. touch

  • "a gift that could only be from America"

Never mind all the other crap you have come out with on here - this sentence on it's own shows you are a fucking idiot.

  • What an amazing band, im hooked

  • Cat Power are much better. This girl is trying desperately to copy Chan Marshall. A bit to stupid to inspire any talent or anything deep to say. She looks like a failed model. Very silly girlie costumes. This just isnt music. Its CRAP....

  • Trophy is a brillant single...
