So any play is a good play as long as it wins is what you are saying? This was a ridiculous play, he should have lost the tournament but for an incredibly lucky flop. Gambling 5 million chips when you dont need to and are a distinct underdog is a shit play. End of story
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah thats right, I'm saying that if you make a play that wins the pot in a game where the whole point is to win pots, you made a good play. It's kind of like if you score a touchdown in football, you made a good play or if you score a goal in hockey you made a good play.
Also why should he have lost? He had the best hand: four tens. Akenhead only had three tens. I don't know if you know this but 4 of a kind beats 3 of a kind. I guess if you didn't know that you'd think Akenhead should've won.
I hope you don't play this game kid, you will go broke pretty fast. Pushing all in and getting lucky is not a good play, its a lucky play and over a period of time you will not always be lucky. If in your attempt to win a pot you are the 37% underdog when the chips go in, I'm sorry but its a terrible play.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sounds like someone is just jealous that this guy made such a sweet call and won the tournament with that call. Once again, you seem to have forgotten that he knocked out the superior hand and won the tournament with this "terrible" play. I guess someone who makes a basket on a half-court shot made a terrible shot, even though the ball went in, huh? I hope you don't play this game son. You would flop a full house, river quads, and then fold because you thought you were making a bad play xfd.
What the hell kind of game are you playing? Getting lucky is the biggest part of playing poker. "Ok he got the nuts but thats all its still a bad play even though he FLOPPED THE GODDAMN NUTS." This isn't just a lucky play, it's a gutsy play. The guy had balls to make a play like this, something you obviously wouldn't understand.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Your big man really hit it big. He got dead last at the final table. Just face it man, you're just another sheep thinking that every hand of double royals wins 100% of the time. You're another sheep who folds every hand that isn't a high pocket pair or an A-K. You think that an A-K should've beat a 10-4 on a flop of 10-4-10. I think you need to read up on your poker rules before you start thinking about poker strategy.
I dont normally lower myself to argue with an idiot but in this case I feel I have nothing better to do with my time. For the last time when the chips went in....read it again, WHEN THE CHIPS WENT IN.. Akenhead was a mile in front. Mr push with any 2 cards got lucky. No I dont fold every hand, I do very well at this game, but I dont make crazy pushes all in when I am reraised by a solid player
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
How was he a mile ahead? He had two unpaired cards. They weren't even suited. It was just as likely that a 10 or a 4 would come down as it was an A or a K. While you're reading about poker basics, try reading about probability as well. Mr Push in with any 2 cards got lucky, thats kind of the most important part of poker - Getting lucky. He knew that he had a chance to make an awesome play and win the tournament with a "huge underdog." Nothing but respect for winning a tournament in this fashion.
Thanks for this intelligible comment that has supporting argument that backs up your claim. I'm really taking a person who can't spell "you" seriously. You should think before ever typing anything on the internet again. Then again maybe thinking might be too high a task for you.
very good play with the 10/4 suited. he was suited, had 10 high (which is very powerful HU), also had about 35% equity against villans range A/K, A/Q, A/J, etc.
also u raise with these hands b/c ur opponents will never put u on that hand!
lol ..to win a tournament you have to be very lucky but you have to a big amount of skill also...and when i ment lucky...then i ment veryveryveryveryveryvery lucky....it depends the number of the people that are playing
Lol at your comment, noob. People like to think there is tons of skill involved in poker but the reality is if you can control your emotions it comes down to luck.
well no, if you have pocket aces and your opponent has lets say 7,2 if you bet all in for example your opponent would fold and you won't make much money. if you raise a little bit and your opponent see's the flop; if he gets a pair he will bet more.
additionally, you can bluff as well, so its not just good hand = bet
basic or rocket science, skills are still involved. it wouldn't be smart to play 10 4. but if aken had seen the flop without the all in bet he wouldn't bet anything on it because hinkle would have the better hand.
Position, learning your opponents play, reading your opponents(with value bets for example), knowing the best way to bet in different situations, finding the weak sides of your opponents, controlling your own emotions, knowing when to fold/not to gamble(by knowing your opponent, safe player or bluffer), having diverse playstyle...there is lot of more than luck. Every little detail you see or hear can help alot.

I love reading some idiots' comments who criticize Akenhead's instant call. For your information you stupid retarded idiots who have no knowledge of probability, AK is one of powerful starting hands in heads up. Only hole cards that can dominate AK is AA or KK. Even if someone has a pocket pair, you're still at coin flip. Except for facing pocket pairs, you're always at advantage 2-1 favorite. Can't believe some idiots here are thinking that Akenhead should've folded AK. LOL, fucking idiots.
Any retard will make that comment after he loses... It's a riot though, they can say they would have laid it down all day simply because they saw that it lost, but get real lol. If someone here is willing to lay that down, give me your online screen name and lets play some heads up
According to these idiots who say that they would've folded AK and only have AA and KK as their requirement for calling, they would fold 109 of 110 rounds they get in heads up since chance of getting any specific pair is 220:1 and getting AA or KK is 110:1. You can tell right away that they've never played heads-up in their lives, especially in multi-table tournament. I'll bet you, if Akenhead had pocket Aces and lost, people would've said they would've laid rockets down. LOL.
Getting a specific pair, such as AA is 220:1. But if you tell yourself, "I gotta get myself AA or KK. Any one of these and I'm all in or call" then it's 110:1 You're likely gonna get AA or KK within 110 hands. Because chances of getting AA is 1 out of 221. Chances of getting KK is 1 out of 221. Add both of them up and you get yourself any one of those two hands 2 out of 221.
Since you'll get any AA or KK 2 out of 221, this makes it 219:2 or 109.5:1, I rounded it off to 110:1. I know my math. I'm not an MIT student but math is my forte and I can calculate every probability related to poker, such as runner outs, conditional outs, etc.
But anyways, I didn't mention that to show off about math. I mentioned it to say that you can't wait for AA or KK all day during heads up because probability of getting them is very slim. Some idiots criticized Akenhead for instant calling. If he's not suppose to instant call with AK during heads-up, what is he suppose to instant call with. AA? KK? If he instant called with AK in 9-player table in mtt by putting all of his chips, then yes, it's retarded. But in HU, AK is a very powerful hand.
Dude, I know all about the game. I'm a winning player who goes to vegas regularly. You were just not clear when you said "the chances of getting AA or KK is 110:1". You should have said and/or. I did not realize what you meant.
aah, ok then. sorry as well. I thought u were trying to fix my comment as if I don't know shit about math. just little misunderstanding then. sorry about that. u go to vegas? i go to cali casinos. but as long as we're on a same page that Akenhead did the right thing, we're good.
instant call like he is so fking sure hinkle has dominated hand with either A or K. LOL i mean AK vs any 2 w/o A or K is 60-40 fav. still pretty much a coin toss, but i cant comment much cause both of them are sitting there and i am sitting here.
You stupid dumbass. AK is a powerful hand during heads up. It's rare chance anyone will have pocket Aces or Kings while you hold AK. On top of that, if you face any pair, then you're still at coin-flip. Other than pocket pairs, you have them dominated. And you can't wait all day for pocket aces or kings. stupid idiot.
Your wrong. There is a lot of stuff to consider and you totally overlook them. You gotta take your M in consideration, your pot odds in consideration then what range of hands you believe your opponent would play like this.
The Blinds are 80k/160k. They are both at around 5.3mil. That means they are both at 22.25 Big blinds. After Hinkle's all-in, there is 6.5mil in the pot and Akenhead needs to pay 5.3mil to be part of it. 6,5mil/5.3mil = 1,23 pot odds.
This isn't 9-player table. This is HEADS-UP. You can't fold everytime someone goes all in. That's donking your chips away. And Akenhead DID fold several times against Hinkle's raise. When Hinkle kept reraising all in, Akenhead kept folding. Hinkle was doing it too often that Akenhead knew that he was bluffing. Hinkle said he went all in to steal the raise like he used to, didn't expect to win by sucking out. Akenhead did make correct choice. 2/3 of the time, he'll win.
wtf if i would be on akenhead place i would beat the shit out of that little shit raise 10 4 re-raise AK re-raise 10 4 wtf is this really a final table WSOP ? lol
I have to agree with the fact that Hinkle is a knuckle head and just another ONLINE DONK....However, although Im not a fan of Gold, if you know anything about psychology, you would see that Jamie actually got in the heads of many poker players in 2007..:)

LOL, i dont know how many chips akenhead had left after hinkle's all-in raise but hey, at least he didn't call all-in with 10 4,lol

I have to agree with the fact that Hinkle is a knuckle head and just another ONLINE DONK....However, although Im not a fan of Gold, if you know anything about psychology, you would see that Jamie actually got in the heads of many poker players in 2007..:)

Disgusting. Akenhead crushed Hinkle heads-up and should have been the champ.
The 2nd most undesevered bracelet in WSOP history, behind Jamie Gold in 1996.
