There's always this stigma that scientists have to be cold and unemotional, and yet, you never see that to be true.
Scientists, particularly Astronomers, practically double as poets. Especially people like Sagan. Every time I hear this guy talk about science, I just get this warm fuzzy feeling, and I can't help but feel love the universe and everything in it.
I actually lost it for a second because I've been thumbing down the stuff on my "Recommended for You!" list that I don't actually like, and so I decided to click something I knew I wanted to tell Dorktube I actually *like* (like it couldn't tell from the trillion times I've watched this?)... and then I heard Carl.

if you believe this then you would also have to believe that everything in the universe is on a level plane which we know isnt true look at the stars in the sky this guy is just crazy
Every single map of the universe or galaxy that you see shows the stars as being level. It's only because of convinience and logic that it's like that.
Look at subway maps. They're made so they're logical instead of showing the exact route through the city (which is called creative).
Is that ^^^^by convenience too or are they really on the same plane? cause im pretty sure they are on different lines unless your talking about planes of existence or dimensions your crazy
@parkerlovesmusic but space-time is three dimensional.. the stars are sitting at the centre of their gravity in not just 2 dimensions as you see in his example, but along a third dimension up and down (if you can picture that). Think of it as a giant 3-d grid, with the stars sitting in their hollow and attracting through their gravity from *every* direction.
actually every explanation and examples that we see on discovery channel or naitonal geographic are taken form this great man thanks to him i cna understand a lot of things
believe it. in the mr. x essay, he describes a time when he was fucking his wife in the shower while high as shit, and came up with "an idea on the origins and invalidities of racism in terms of gaussian distribution curves."
while still fucking his wife, he drew out the curves in soap on the shower wall, finished his shower, and within an hour had written 11 essays about the idea
@cotchery -- Can you imagine what Mr. Sagan would be like at a party!? Oh my God! Either a mood killer, or that awkward guy that makes the whole party worthwhile hahahah! (I don't mean that demeaningly.... But, really, though. Think about it haha)
@frankyh101: Carl Sagan's Cosmos. If you go to Hulu and search Cosmos, you will find the entire series. One of the most thought provoking and awe inspiring shows you will find despite it's age.

Basically, what I'm saying is that Astronomers are better at logic AND creativity.
Suck it, other disciplines.

I love it when Carl Sagan ostentatiously brandishes his grandiloquence through bombastic circumlocution.

Read his remarks on cannabis on his Wikiquotes page. I don't think he could be a killjoy with the sensible attitude he showed to cannabis.
