this song isn't really about God. the whole album Artist In the Ambulence has more of a theme of searching for truth, just listen to Stare at the Sun, and there's plenty of other examples.
the aspect of God and Chrisitanity in Thrice's lyrics comes into play with Vheissu, and its more than obivous in those songs if you know anything about the topic. it also shows blatantly on Dustin's solo project what his beliefs are. and now there are plenty of examples in the Alchemy Index.
christianity has been in thrices lyrics since basically the begining dude this basicly the only band i listen too. i have every song so i know that its a lot more blatant in vheissu but this is about god. if you knew a lil more about the bible you would see it.
Dustin has discussed spiritual issues including God since the very beginning. And Holdfastjack does have every Thrice song. His youtube name is from Holdfast hope.
Also, do ya'll really believe that his wife would make him speak in tongues? Honestly?
You guys are missign the point of the music. Thrice uses a ton of religon in their lyrics as well as philosophy. This doesnt make them a christan band or an emo band or anything. Thrice has an over all moral message, how they want to get it across is their bussiness. I also feel like a lot of the refrences they make are cynical and even sarcastic.
I never said they were a Christian band. I was just stating where the inspiration came from. And if by cynical and sarscastic you mean CCACH or a part of Blood Clots and Black Holes, then sure. Dustin doesn't make sarcastic lyrics about his faith.
@radiotheorist oh but they are a Christian band. Dustin especially writes a lot of his songs with his religion in mind (looking at his solo album for instance)
@joshuaspolar... you just ignored everything I previously said. The occasional use of ones philosophy or existential beliefs in their music does not bind the musician to a simple representation of that belief (put simply, the occasional use of Christianity in songs does not make you a "Christian band"). Let us not make the mistake of assuming that Thrice is only capable of making references that aren't deeper than their initial face value.
@joshuaspolar (continued) Also, Dustin appears to be Christian, yes. The writing of his solo album is pretty agreeably Christian, yes. But that is a comment on Dustin and not on Thrice. He wrote the songs on his solo album as a representation of himself and not of Thrice. Hence the term, Solo Album.
why the fuck do you think this is about god?if it was god hasn't been very nice to him.."broken and bleeding", this seems about a girl a realtionship not god...
no no it is god. um u really dont know whats its like to be close to the presence of god then. read all the lyrics. uh theres a lot of explaining. its saying when God leaves him it hurts. also being in the presence of God can really take can physically affect you. it used to be believed that if you actually saw god you would die.
"u really dont know whats its like to be close to the presence of god"...lol well 14 years of catholic school did't do it for me-just a bunch of overated stories about a oh so caring but vengeful god, none of them provable but hey,it seems you know too much what it is to be in his presence, but ok different points of view no prob-you see god in here i see a person.
Lol @ 3:19. The first guy in the audience to cheer sounds like Kermit. :P
