Good call, Eric. The V3 is a serious amp. I've got EH power tubes and Tung Sol preamp tubes in mine. It is so flexible that I can't really say I know the amp yet.
I just got an XXL, and they are pretty nice for a sloid state amp. I saw you also have a Carvin V3. I am very interested in your opinion in comparing the two. I have an MTS, but they are so different. The V3 is an amazing amp, but I am surprised with the XXL solid state. I am a tube amp guy, but I am impressed with the XXL. Please reply. Thanks!!!
No comparison is possible, the carvin V3 is a lot way better amp than the peavey... But, to be honest, the peavey is one of the best solid state amp I ever played.
Thats what I thought you would say. I love all my tube amps, but for my music room in the house, the XXL rocks, for I can run it in 25W mode, shred away, and not piss off the wife and neighbors. Plus, I paid 100USD used, so I can't beat it. The V3 rocks(my friend has one), but even with the hotplate, its loud!! I wish carvin would come up with a 15W 2 channel rock amp. Thanks and keep playing.
And if it's a good tube amp at least from the custom shop for a Johnny Hiland signature, it will cost the same price as the JSX or the Penta that I like but I don't find developed enough.
Do you like the V3 better?...I've been trying to decide, i need a bigger amp, I have an SX200 with 2 12's and i want a half stack, and it's between the Peavey XL, XXL, or the V3...do you have any advice?...I'm a harder rock player..
Mine does feedback a lot sometimes. The ultra-channel is too damn "gainy". I have tried with a noise-gate but the thing that works best is to not have your guitar's volume set at 10. I have used active pickups so this would be particulary useful for that kind of setup.
sure, tnat's right. but for tube amp, you need to play on a soccer stadium! all these video i've seen with guys playing triple recto mesa on a little appartement!i've try a jcm 2000, and it sound great....at volume 4!
Hi ericmelvin. I go tthat head for 300 dollars and an Ibanez 412 cab. Sounds great. I just dont know how to set it right. What setting do you have on each channel? Can you tell me please? And theres kinda a buzzing problem. Maybe thats because I use a Fender Telecaster. i really liek your settings. PLEASE TELL ME!!
Hey. Thanks for the reply. May I ask you (if you have any spare time) to make a vid by playing some heavy riffs on the ultra and classic or whatever its called channel. Just make something up or play any songs. By the way, what cab are you using in this vid and what speakers does it have? Do you think a 4x12" XXL or 2x12" would be better? Thanks so much.
Hey. I plan on purchasing the XXL head for 300 bux Canadian used from my friend. Is that a good deal? or maybe the V3? I like rock/hard rocl/metal tone. And also, what is the best cab to go with this? Like what speakers are good for my tone? Thanks dude
300 bucks? A real bargain! Mine cost about 900 euro new and now I'm selling it for 400!!! :_(
I use it connected to a 4x12 jensen cab, but try the xxl cab, it suits better this amp :)
About the v3... Is like a "cheap" rectifier. It's a great amp, I love it. For rock & metal tone, the XXL is easy to dial in a good sound... With the V3 you have to spend more time.
Hi, I'mv VERY PLEASED WITH THIS GUITAR!! :D The finish is superb, and the sound is great! For the money, I think this is the best guitar you could buy. Mine costs about $700 in japan.
A great-looking, light weight guitar with great sound and great stock pickups (seymour duncan jb and '59!!)
The V3 is very versatile, but the jsx is more articulated and clear sounding. I think the JSX is an incredible amp, just different from the V3... V3 is versatile, from jazz to extreme metal (hi gain). Is like a Dual Rectifier but with EL34 (marshall like sound). The jsx is more responsive to the player's touch, but has less gain and is not midi controllable (I think..) Try both and buy the best for you!
yea im 14 years old and i cant spend anything more then the price of the v3, i like deathmetal tone so i cant get a rectifier or krank, so the v3 is the best for its price (deathmetal)
Wait 2 months, and get the V3 and a 4x12 witch CELESTION V30...
Maybe if you play extreme metal / death metal... you should check a Mesa Dual Rectifier, a Diezel or a Krank. But the V3 has lots of gain. I've the channel2 set to get a warm, fat rock sound , and the channel1 set to sound as a rectifier.
I'll put new videos soon with a new 4x12 with celestions :)
dude can you put up a video of the XXL on Lead High Gain with these settings: High:8-10, Mid:0, Low:6-8 Gain:10, just tune your top string into D and play power chords just so i can gett a feal of the metal tone, can you do that for me? please and thankyou, peace
oops sorry I've deleted your last post by accident :(
I owned the Legacy. The Legacy is great for leads but not for rythm :(. I Think the V3 is a lot way better amp! :) ... 100% tubes, serial and parallel fx loops, boos, midi controlable, 3 modes on each channel plus extended EQ... For me, te XXL sounds great for the money.
far out the best transistor amp in the world! I could never get one in Belgium

@stoofbuis
There are some H&K amps that are amazing transistor amps too!

what cab is it?? I got a crate loaded of celestion in it, but I feel like your cab offers more than mine

Transtube-Amps usually impress tube-amp-people.
My bandit is a really fine sounding amp but it has barrier-voltage- and feedback-problems my ultra plus does absolutely not have.
cero815 3 years ago
sick. im looking to get an xxl head soon.
ckesel191 3 years ago
Better go for a peavey 5150!!! or a tube amp! like valve-king
Anyway, the xxl sounds amazing for a solid state amp!
ericmelvin10 3 years ago
i have a vox right now, i would get a 5150 if i had the money, but the xxl seems pretty good for its price.
ckesel191 3 years ago
well, I have not seen any video of this valveking impressing me.
cero815 3 years ago
This is not a valve king, the XXL is 100% a Transistor amp.

Don't say that! You have to be cocky if you want to be a guitarist xD.
You're not bad at all. Have great taste in amps too ;]

hey man how does yours do at high levels with gain? mines terrible for gigs and stuff plus the pinch harmonics suck i cant get it to squeal at all.

i dont like the carvin v3 at all...
if youre going to get a tube amp make sure it uses 6l6's they sound so much better.
the v3 uses those crappy el34's.
=[

Carvin V3 can operate with 6L6
Thank you for your comment

sound better than tube!
i have a line6, and it sound better than tube too! my 5150 preset is awsome

I'll try, but I'm very busy right now :s
I think that a 4x12 gives to the sound more bass and headroom than a 2x12
