  • ...impressive demonstration; what is the manufacturer and model of the sword, please?

  • you suck!!!

  • @ gic102, please- where did you get this awsome sword? , so as i may get one also

  • the sound it made when it went through the mats(first cut) almost gave me a boner^^ no just kidding .....nice prototype

  • that is a very nice sword :) I want one :D

  • try kuting in cirles when u cut and also try to slide more on the blade kinda like a water motion.u will see u wont get that hanging thread when u cut.As for the vidoe was awsome keep it u!!!

  • try kuting in cirles when u cut and also try to slide more on the blade kinda like a water moton.u will see u wont get that hanging thread when u cut.As for the vidoe was awsome keep it u!!!

  • i love jian. it s better then katana. katan has stronger hit(not to mention slash) but jian make more hits with it. jian is onehanded.

  • woah sharp sword. i prefer swords that thrust then cut. thrusting takes more skills while cutting is just....

  • @Hope4freedom76 lolwut? Have you even handled a sword before, or are you spouting irrelevant bullshit myths?

  • @halfassedfart Whats the point of asking me if im "spouting irrelevant bullshit myths" if you've already made the statement that i've never handled a sword before?

Ever heard of personal opinions? No i still think you need more energy and skills to thrust quick enough to kill someone than actually cutting them.

  • @Hope4freedom76 It was a question, buddy. Learn to read.

Opinions have nothing to do with a factual debate. Thrusting quickly enough to wound is not difficult, actors kill each other by accident with BLUNTED stage weapons every now and then.

  • @Hope4freedom76 fine. be an idiot

  • @Hope4freedom76 sorry thats bulls$it, good cutting also requires lots of skill, it isn't just slashing around like in a movie, when you are thrusting opponent knows possible direction so contra is easier, but with cut you can start like normal oberhau and end it in zwerchhau and opponent has less than 0,5second to react right.

  • thats sharp.

  • 3:14销魂的奥特曼

  • how do i get a jian sword

  • @Gamemaster502 ebay

  • katana mach mach better i think

  • @waiborx2 unlike your spelling. but then again you're probably too much of a dingleberry to understand that there's no such thing as a better sword only a swordsman.

  • There's so much bias in favour of Japanese

People watch too much anime if they think Japanese ninjas used to jump tree to tree at 100mph and cut through buildings lol

  • @GuysSeriously That's not how it used to be? lol

  • People, if you want to by Chinese swords go here: zheng-wu.com

  • Everyone is going to try and act an expert on youtube, but i'll just give you some practical advice.

If you mean swing it from one side, make sure that hand is at the bottom of the hilt.

This is true of all swords, as it maximizes power.

That's a fine looking sword, good flex and spring. Where did you get it?

  • now that no way to treat a sword bending it all like that.

lol just kidding but that sword looks like it would usually be for wushu.

  • That can't be a TRUE Chinese sword. It would break. lol

  • Where can I get one? wow.

  • What is the thickest mat that this Jiang can cut, sir?

  • @gic102 That is very nice.

  • I love the jian. Its my favorite sword. There is a saying sabor power won by strength sword/jian soft won by skill. I personally want to be a practitoner for the rest of my life so i would use the jian/gim insted of a sabor or katana. when i get old i know my power will lower but my skill will only grow.

  • PLEASE DO RESEARCH BEFORE COMMENTING. The jian is a CUT AND THRUST WEAPON @SOMETAAW and there are two handed versions of the sword @sierrahawkproduction.

  • The sword looks good.I would only like to know how long the blade is, to me it looks a little (too?) long.

  • Excellent technique for the backhand and back edge cuts and that sword cuts very well.

  • te la mandaste...ni siquiera esta relleno el elemento de tameshiguiri...bastante malo...

  • its beautiful

  • looks fun

  • i can personally say you are right.

flea markets swords are crap and break during any and everything. i have started spending 100 or more on my weapons.

  • what are you doing playin golf with your sword???

  • but no doubt the chinese Jian is amazinggg

  • there's a saying in Vietnamese which roots from Chinese saying and it goes ( not exactly but ) : Become one and a master with the sword and you can use a stick to defeat your opponent.

a bit exaggerated but it's true if you think about it.

  • Anyway and with all respect, yer discipline with the Jian is honestly horrible. If ye used to be skillful days ago, it seems a long time you and yer blade don't 'talk' to each other. Peace & respect. (Power comes not from the blade, it just flows thru the skillful wielder) :D

  • RojasLasHojas you are seeing too much bleach

  • Do... Want... T.T

  • it's not the blade that's important... it's the person using the blade

  • swords are not all produced to take lives or make war.

  • it's never meant to be a slicing weapon

    it's meant for stabbing/jabbing

  • then why do they bother sharpening the edges

  • they sharpen both edges for a couple different reasons. the first being that it is easier to get max penetration with a sharp blade than it is with a dull blade. Secondly, they needed it sharp in case they needed to use it as a slashing weapon. This sword was basically the eastern equivalent of a rapier but better because of its ability to be a slashing weapon when needed but it is primarily used to stab between the sections of armor that could not be penetrated by the dao.

  • That's true for the more recent jians...especially the pseduo-fake jians produced nowadays. These jians are flimsy

Back in ancient and imperial times, jians produced for war were equally good at cutting as well as stabbing.

  • @sometaaw

Actually the smoth slicing at the joints can disable and opponet rather well. It has the flexibility to get in the joints and get those nice little cuts

  • its a weapon made for rich ppl i think

  • Beautiful Blade

  • なんだ?このぐだぐだ感。美しさが感じられない。

  • even with a light swipe that could cut off a hand

  • that's a smooth cut

  • Very nice sword and test, hope Human Weapon and other Discovery take a look of this and reconsider their concepts about chines weapons and martial arts.

    Congratulations.

  • The reflection of light in 0:21 - 0:22 looked cool xD.

  • jian is a 1 handed weapon

  • wow nice, awsome sword, how much is it? dont tell me its $30

  • i wish it is 30$ or id bye it in a heart beat!!

  • i wanna buy this sword, i have an academic idea for it

  • did u make that?

  • hey where did you buy that sword?

  • How did you get a sword of such great quality I would like to know as well.......... And what is the traditional Chinese name for this type of sword, so I can stop saying "Tai Chi Sword".

  • Jian.

  • Most call it a Gim but I have heard it called JIan.

  • Is that sword handmade? It must be to have such great quality, any machine made blade would have been dented on that wood. Im curiouse to know were you live and how you found a sword of such great quality. I need to check my local flea market XD!

  • hA FLEE MARKETS ARE FILLED WITH FAKES AND FANTASY SWORDS MADE BYE MACHINE WELL ATLEAST THE ONE I LIVE CLOSEST TO

  • @FlashMob22 Spelled Buy >.>

  • that sword looks realy cool in the snow

  • that is one sweet sword!!!

  • do you make these I will buy one.

  • Wow, the weight and balance of the sword seems to be quite good.

  • what a beautiful blade! i want one of those. it's called a Jian Gim? i always just called it a Chinese straight sword.

  • Jian is the name of the sword in mandarin

    Gim is cantonese

  • where did you buy that blade? impressive. how is the balance btw?

  • I love the way the sword caught the sunlight along its center. I thought that might an effect that was added in, at first.

  • One of the better demos on youtube good job. Don't forget to shift your root and torque your center into the cut as well as swing and snap the wrist. God bless your journey.

  • the mane of the manufacture please

    i want the same

  • god bless the warrior?

  • kool ... were did u get this sword?? how can i get one??

  • you should go on the internet and buy one. make shure if the site is not a hacker and order it!!! i did that a week and im about to have it!!

  • what a magnificent weopon!!! not that a blade of this design would need to be so incredible in its creation; as far as usage is concerned. where can i get one!

  • Iam the owner of a LIHU sword forged at the Zhou zhengwu Sword Forging Institute The sword is in the Han Dynasty style(206 BC- AD220) the fittings have tiger patterns After handmade polished, the surface of the sword blade form is natural refined pattern. (1200 folds) So the blade has strong toughness and very sharp The smiths name is SEI BU MON and its serial # is 1003 It is my only Jin and the blade is so sharp you can look down it and see the sharpness. It is a man killer if need be.

  • try using 2 hand?

  • Watch where you put your foot during the heavy chopping! If you had missed the block, you'd be in big trouble...

  • the chinese sword is used for mainly cutting not thrusting due to its superb flexibility unlike the katana. the katana was made for thrusting and cutting b/c it has a long handle for 2 hands and stiffer blade. You can do much more with a chinese sword than a katana b/c the chinese sword is more manuverable and quicker. Try using a katana with one hand, its not so friendly and is slower.

  • your thinking of wushu swords when you say "superb flexibility" carbon steal jians dont bend that much and gung fu forms use stabbing more than cutting the jian is an evasion weapon the dao on the other hand while it does have stabs it works mainly on centrifical force and uses cutts do to its wieght and wider blade

  • Yep

The flexibility seen in modern wuxia/wushu movies is total BS...they use crappy aluminum or plastic props.

Real ancient swords did bend a little, but nowhere near the amount of bending in movies.

Modern wushu swords are pretty much "prop swords"

  • they actualy use either very thin carbon steal to make it lighter and faster (lame and kinda cheating) or "spring steal" wich when used correctly is very good for making swords they used it to make the swords from lord of the rings but with wushu swords its very thin near the tip of the blade

  • I see...hmm

  • There are two kinds of "cutting": 1) slicing/dragging, 2) chopping/slashing. The jian is mainly used for the former, and the katana/nodachi is mainly used for the latter. The dao is somewhere between. You can use any of them for anything you wish (with more or less success), I'm just talking about the common uses in various matrial traditions. Most xian swordplay relies on centrifugal force; it's generated quickly by subtle motions in the wrist/elbow/shoulder rather than a lumberjack chop.

  • "lumberjack chop". really good, that made my day!!!

  • where can I buy such a jim?

  • Thanks for this video. Cool to see the jian in action.

  • 哥们,咱中国的剑是用来刺的,小日本的刀才是用来砍的

  • Translate: yo brother, our Chinese sword is used for thrusting, Japanese katana is the weapon for cutting.

  • @wildreams Yes & no. You go for vital joints and ligaments with a small cutting motion, and thrust enabled such cuts/slashes. The sword was used against people who would wear armor that would prevent thrusts into the centerline/abdomen. Chinese fencing goes for vital areas in the wrists, ankles, groin, and neck. (not usually thrusting for the abdomen).

  • @wildreams The thrust is used to extend the slash while keeping your body structure having the smallest area of attack. That is why most Chinese fencing is done using one hand.

  • @wildreams you can cut with a jian though

  • @laserjet245 哥们,咱中国的剑是用来刺和砍的。

  • that is a beautiful sword! you need to disregard these ignorant comments and keep doing what you're doing! now i watched you other video too and noticed a few comments about people wanting that sword and you said just to order it from you (if i'm not mistaken). do you have a website? not many people out there sell the Jian/gim, at least that i've noticed, any of good quality i should say. and then there's yours! LOL!

  • amen to that! I just adore jian, dao, and the katanas (my three favorite).

  • where's a good site i can get a good gim like that?

  • Where can i get one of these poles? Ebay?

  • good but straight swords are for stabbing not slashing you should test the broad sword for slashing and cutting :P

  • why do they hit the handle of the sword?

    (:41-:45)

  • Possibly checking the center of percussion and hilt and blade "nodes".

  • I am sorry to say that these is so many style of sword in China and the sword showed in the video is not the stle for fight but for sport.

  • hm, I'd hate to see the swords used in fights then. They must shoot lasers or something equally terrifying.

  • i keep defending the chinese swords cuz alot of people tell me that katana's are Way better but i dont believe that, whats your point of vue?

  • there is no ultimate sword... unless its the one you know/use best....

both weapons and their accompanying arts are perfectly deadly... anybody telling you a katana is superior is a fanboy not a martial artist... just my two cents

  • a weapon is only as good as its wielder. it does not matter if it is a katana or a dao or a jian; these are all instrument of war(use to be) and they all have one common true purpose and its to take lives. tho now people collect them or use them as decoration purposes haha....

  • Well put:D

    cheers!

  • may i ask where you bought your sword. i've gotten my dadao sword from the trueswords website, but i'd like to get something like the sword you have there. but the site i just mentioned mainly has japanese swords. theres nly 2 or 3 chinese swords there.

is there a site out there for mainly chinese swords (trying to avoid eBay)

  • no i didnt use my hand.

  • its chinese and i want to keep.

  • thats a very nice jim sword where did you get it and how much was it

  • Beautiful sword :D

btw may I ask wat the weight of the sword is?

  • about 2 lbs.

  • niiice!!! 0:21 !!! hahahaha!!!

  • 龙泉宝剑

    中国现存最好的剑~

    上面那把剑和龙泉宝剑没法比~越王剑就诞生在龙泉。

  • 刀才是用斬!

  • I love the sword, i have been a Taiji Jian fighter for 5 years...I WANT THAT SWORD...NOW!!! I love it though, how much do you think that would fetch if it were to go for sale??(hint hint)

  • The Japanese swords originate from the Chinese. Some Han and Tang swords look very similar to the japanese such as the katana. So the Japanese are actually Chinese. During the Tang dynasty (618 AD 907 AD) the cultural influence on Japan was huge and a lot of sword smiths moved to Japan and brought the technology with them.

  • Amazing sword where did you get it

  • Now i know the katana looks cool, but damn! that chinese sword looks better. ^^

  • do not compare them, the chinese straight sword is a pretty good one handed sword and it's also the ancestor of the japanese sword but the katana is also a really good weapon.

  • too bad we cant buy swords in canada

  • of course we can. at least I hope I haven't been doing something illegal for years. :P

  • if the cops find you with them theyll take them unless you have a license

  • They'll stop you if you are carrying it openly for no particular reason.

If you are carrying it in a bag and you are on your way to tai chi practice, there won't be any problems. Also, there are no sword licences in Canada.

  • nope.. i hav 3 swords, no problem so far, even when i carried it in a case =D

  • really i had 5 on my walls and they took them

then again they are cops.... goddamnit

  • why is it called a prototype sword, you designed it???

  • Monosteel blade. I would not do as heavy a flex test with a laminated blade since they are designed to set under such pressure.

    Talk to you soon.

  • Hey you ever heard of the ancient chinese chrom blades thats were literally unrustable and did not break in the time between China's first ruler to the time of today? Those swords were wicked.

  • I was wondering... does this jian have a monosteel blade, or one with sanmai construction? I think it looks like monosteel, but I wasn't certain.

At any rate, I can't wait till I have enough to buy from your company.

  • oh thats a cool view at 0:21 seconds when the blade shines

  • he looks like hideo kojima. btw the jian is a great weapon:)

  • May I suggest those interested in learning test cutting see Rodell's new book:

"A Practical Guide to Test Cutting

    for Historical Swordsmanship"

it is available on his website, sevenstartrading and on Amazon.

  • you did not make that

  • I love the polish, the sheath is also very nice

  • your after swing looks a bit dangerous.

  • Good looking sword, but way so small of a guard???

  • it's only to prevent the hand from slipping over to the blade, not to protect the hand from the enemy's blade.

  • Good answer, very good.

Chinese swords' (Jian/Gim/Chien) guard are, always, very small.

The guard of the chinese broadsword (dao) is pretty similar to the japanese sword (katana/ken....)

  • while watching it, i was worrtying if he would cut himself accidently, since his other hand is like in front of the sword.

  • cool! my dad has that same one!

but we had to dull it...it was too sharp

  • How? This was a prototype of a sword that gic102 was having manufactured himself. You should check his channel for the site.

  • not sure but it was the design that was the same

  • wow...u better be careful when u chop things with it...in case u get hurt...it looks sharp!

  • i currently take kung fu and will eventually be learning a form for a jian... where can i get a good one? my sifu could find me one i know that for sure but i would like a shiny new one like the one in tis vid :P

  • is it real? will it hurt cut arm?

  • It can chop off arms, may be even heads. It can be used as a stabing weapon to certain parts of the body. Some techniques can be used to cut so fast that the enemy doesn't notice unntil it's bleeding, other techniques are slashes. An equal amount of parrying, slashing and stabing can be done with it, depending on the style of martial arts.

  • jian in the ancient times mostly regarded as a symbol of social status or military rankings...especially after the establishment of western han dynasty, the massive deployment of cavalry, single edged sword found to be more lethal nd durable in the close quarter combat...thus Huang Shou Dao (han dynasty) became the standard issue weapon for combatants, nd during tang dynasty it further developed in to as known tang da dao or 'tang dao' the ancestor of katana (famous Japanese swords)

  • It is statistically improbable! LOL

  • im impressed, a jian cutting through an arm never thought it would be possible, is there a shaft of bamboo in the middle to simulate bone? couldnt see. but awsome sharp jian anyway!

  • Of course it's possible! There was no bamboo in this one. I guess I should do a vid of multiple rolls to dispel these myths that a jian can't cut.

  • Well, do you think Chinese went to war with soft flexible blade to peice through lamellar armors and slash chain mail!? soft, innofensive Jian did not became the norm before 1960. Jian were weapon as deadly as any other you'd meet out there. I have both a Jian and a Katana and let me tell you, I dont know which one would be more leathal...

  • They both are very lethal depending on how you would go about using it. The jian is probably better stabbing and choping, not to mention having the double edge meaning cutting both ways without changing grip. The katana is probably better at slashing, and is incredibly sharp though you would have to think twice about blocking with both swords.

  • That's a nice sword, where did you get it and how much? I have the Gim made by a company called Cold Steel

  • Hello from Germany! Thats a cool swort!..... I have many respect about te Chinese swortfightstile.... but I think that the history and the traditions from both Lands about swords an middleages wappons is very importand...... I see, you have snow ..... and your wappon is very sharp! ;-)

Im a showfighter....... and a knight.... and I respect your Land an your old hystory!

    Erik

  • Hi gic102,

Do you have a showcase/store or is strictly mail order?

Cause when I visit my family in TO. Id like to see what it is you have in stock or on hand.

How many years experience you have using those bad boys?

  • Hello, i'm also interested to learn more about the history of Chinese swords and swordsmanship. Could you point me to some good websites where this information can be found? thx

  • Since I can't post links here. I've messaged you with a few links.
