@EatmyDust1311The great irony is that Ford USA had the same idea as GMwhen it came to RWD. The Zeta floorpan which Holden designed and buils was meant to be the world rear drive platform for GM. Ford USA gave Ford Australia a similar job, and the floorpan this Falcon sits on was meant to be the base for Ford's international RWD cars. They have independent rear suspension all round, slipping it under the Mustang would have been a great move

@Mechknight73 No, the Mustang is on a better, light platform. If the Mustang had the Falcon platform it would be as heavy and big as the Camaro. Ford USA needs a new rwd platform though, and badly. Even thier new "suvs" are fwd.

Watch for reviews of the successor to the FG Series (current model) Falcon, using Coyote engines, and see just how quick they are on circuits. For the first time in many years, the Falcons are winning in a big way in V8 Supercars, partly due to the improved suspension.

Ford Australia also does a "RWD" SUV called the Territory. Slightly bigger than a Falcon wagon, but would do well in the US, for those that hate Explorers

@Mechknight73 No the Mustang is a much better handling car than the Camaro due to weight and how well tuned the suspension is. IRS would help on most roads, and the next one is going to have it, but I don't think a full size sedan platform is the way to go.

Americas only rear drive or true 4x4 SUV is the Expidition, and that thing is based on the old F150. The old Explorer was based on the Ranger platform, now it's a tall Taurus wagon. What America needs is a supercharged 5.0L Coyote Ute!

Holden have been filling the gaps where GM has stopped making RWD cars.The Holden Caprice is a Buick in China, A Chevy in the Middle East. The Commodore is a Vauxhall in England, used to be a Pontiac in the US. The Daewoo-based GM designs are crawling with Holden DNA because they're under Holden's command

@Mechknight73 GM is bringing the Caprice here, very good car... and only selling it to cops, bastards! Mark Reuss said they want to bring the El Camino back. Killing Pontiac just as it was getting good, instead of GMC which only brings down the sales and image of Chevy, was the worst thing GM could have done. Ford wants to build everything off car platforms and won't decimate F150 sales for any reason at all. They are very stubborn about this.

Have a look at the tray on Australian Falcon utes in the AU, BA, BF and FG series and see if you notice what's familiar. They still retain a leaf spring rear end and a removable well body tray, but the front of the car will only use the odd gauge, engine or screw. The irony of the Camaro is that it was developed in Australia. Chevy's input was "we want it to look, drive and sound like this.."

@Mechknight73 The similarities in design are there. The new Ranger front fender looks like it's off a Raptor and the grille is off the old Fusion.

The Camaro is a movie prop car that was put back into production due to the success of the redesigned Mustang and the Transformer movie. And now that everybody got thiers and they aren't so special anymore, the Mustang is back to outselling it. I don't know why we had to get that Aussie car when there are better ones to choose from.

@EatmyDust1311 Holden were hamstrung with the Camaro. They had to listen to Chevrolet, and therein lies the problem. There were arguments about roof height, handling and a multitude of other things. The Pontiac G8 is essentially a slightly restyled Holden Commodore, and it suffers from none of the drawbacks of the Camaro. It weighed about the same, maybe even a little lighter, but can out corner a 5-series BMW, and in some cases, outrun one too

But we can always shill out $65k USD for a Cts-V right? And the Camaro is a styling statement. The outside does look great but you cannot see out of the damn things. Add a retro interior that lacks things you expect in a modern $30k car (like nav screen) and what do you get?
