i gave this game 4/5 stars, i'd give it a 5/5 but they miss out one thing, the one thing that grabs u by the balls n made u luv this game, and that is all the fighter theme and there stages. hopful SSF4 will bring it back. without it it doesnt feel like SF at all but overall this game still kick ass

Street fighter 3 3RD STRIKE really IS THE BETTER GAME (in my opinion)... and this is coming from a veteran of 3rd strike and a Gamestop Tourney WINNER OF THE FIRST 2 full brackets (our gamestops were packed and i had to run through 30 (1st round) and 22 ppl (second round) before I got beat.... btw i started with sagat hehe.... crappy cons- the focus system is a WORSE rehash, ultras are NOT necessary.. stick to supers... and hits often don't connect, EVEN sgat has an ultra corner glitch lookit up
This is a pretty fair review, although the mispronounced character names did kind of make me cringe (Gouki is pronounced with an extended 'o' not an 'oo') and I should point out that 'Shen Long' was a mis-translation of Ryu's rising dragon punch, and the joke of him being a character arose as a result of a misconception concerning the phrase 'defeat Shen Long'. Gouken doesn't really even bare any resemblance to the joke character and has been around since the Alpha series.

Yeah I own and like this game too and the graphics work BUT!... as for the people thinking this is beter than 3rd strike!!!!... hellll noooo..... if you missed out on the greatness of third strike or didn't know it existed it perfected on top of alpha 3, andthe techs and parry ssytem is the gold standard!... watch Daigo EVO moment 37!.. that says it all... sf4 is a "middle ground", FEW new features to franchise but 3rd strike IS KING & the most progressive, STILL played & has MORE "DEPTH"(imo)

..... I so wanted to adore this game, but the really pathetic control scheme (360) just makes it too impossible to do anything. I mean, I'm all for complicated control schemes, but only when they're easy to do. SFIV is just too complicated and the controllers make it even harder...... It may just be my lack of SF skills, but, I'd give it 75%, purely because of the controls. o.O
Why does it have to acknowledge the existence of another game? What kind of substance would you have liked to have seen? This is a Street Fighter game. It's all about the game play, the tournaments, and the character balance. If substance to you means "story", then no wonder!
I think this game does an excellent job in hearkening back to the days when videogames were about, well.. gameplay. And the gameplay in this game is deep and sure to keep fans going for years to come.

My guess is these people are the kinds of people who've never heard of SF III, or wrote it off just because they didn't like the characters. 3rd Strike is a vastly superior game in every category. You just have to learn to read between the lines.
Street Fighter III's battles were convoluted and unbalanced. 3rd Strike was admittedly decent, but still lacking. I think the extra hype surrounding IV has more to do with timing than anything else. Still-It may all come to personal preference, but I much prefer the distilled fight system in IV to the convoluted system of III. The excess baggage was excised, and it's an overall better game for the trouble. So, no, SFIII is not superior in every category and no text between the lines was missed.
I think SF IV is street fighter EX in 2D. They took out the parrying, there is no System Direction, and it's considerably slower and nowhere near as charming. Polygons cannot move as fast as sprites can, so it takes a hit in the speed dept.
This simply doesn't stack up to 3rd Strike. It's not a bad game, but it's NOT better than Alpha 3 or 3rd Strike.
Polygons actually can move just as fast as sprites can (adjustments would need to be made, of course). The system was slowed down intentionally in this game to emphasize strategy over the spastic reaction-based battles of previous games. I'm not wholly convinced that this game stacks up to Alpha 3, which was and still is my personal favorite, in terms of fun, but I would put it squarely above 3rd strike. Once again, though, it's personal preference, and you're welcome to your own opinion :)
Not to mention (and I just noticed this) there is a slight pause in the action EVERY SINGLE TIME a hit is landed, whether it's blocked or not, which can throw off your timing when doing combos. I would at least like to have seen a system direction or ex options. I'm not spending $60 for this. I think it's gonna be a contender for game of the year, which quite honestly I think is undeserved. GameTrailers gave this a 9.2 which is way way too high. I'd give it a 6-7.5 at best.
Spastic reaction based battles has never been the way to play any street fighter game ( Apart from the first one perhaps). Everyone has they're right to an opinion, but this game does kick Alpha's AND 3s's ass. I love Alpha and 3s, but this is even better. I havent played this one in a arcade.
Of course, the beloved parry system from 3s is gone, that's a big bummer, but the focus attack system brings a new component to the table.
Somehow, I doubt most people have time to plan out a strategy if they crank SFII Turbo or SFAlpha up to the highest speed (Turbo II on SF Alpha, which is also the default on the PSX). Once you get good, the tactics play out naturally, and maybe you have time for a vague idea of a strategy. But in a lot of ways I've always felt it is more like speed chess vs. competition chess. BIG difference. Cranking down the speed to "Turbo" or "Normal" does reintroduce elements of tactics and strategy.
the focus attack reminds me of the Gaurd Break and the Surprise Blow from the EX series. I'm not saying it's a bad game, just compared to the other two games, this one feels like a couple steps back, that's all. The graphics was the first thing that turned me off about this game. If Sagat wasn't in it, I wouldn't be interested at all. I still think it's dumbed down. I don't care if it's on a 2-D plane, this shouldn't be in 3-D
good review man, personally i kinda miss the old school 2d look of it, yeah the cell shaded graphics are nice and pretty but idk akuma's super looked so much more badass in the older versions, while this SF to me, seemsa bit more goofy

Yeah well I got it 2 days ago, and I thought the online was awesome (apart from me sucking), so I honed a couple moves and learned how to perform blanka's ultra and super and now I can't get a game that freezes between frames for 1-2 seconds sometimes! I know it's not my connection.

I give this game a 6.0 because.they taken away all the character specials. the game is really unblanced especially the grabing system, for instince you could grab someone no matter what. when i fought seth,he grab he out of my ultra special.(c. viper) some characters are over powered and cheap as well especially the boss. overall it doesn't feel like a street fighter game. by the way,what happened to deejay, t-hawk, and guy. rufus is the worst character I ever seen in my life.

I never played Street Fighter before so this was an entirely new experience for me and absolutely the best fighting game I ever played, but I do agree with the hassle of online mode is the game's fatal flaw if any. Still online is hella fun once you get an opponent.
They are not codes. Those are PSN ID's. If you wanted to play or befriend either of these people you would type their name in the sender field. I think...
Played it the other night against a mate, 40 wins to me 8 to him :D still got it! , But the new characters wtf :( and also if you put rounds to 1 and very easy to try and unlock the chars quick dont! Seth is for some reason almost impossible to beat and is so annoying,
lol, the reviewer is pretty funny. Yea that opening track....why did capcom do it? I mean they must have had a board meeting to decide what song would be the flagship anthem for another 20 years. I just don't think this one is it, although it grows on you after the first 540 times you hear it.
Sheng Long isn't Gouken's name. When Ryu states: "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance." in Street Fighter 2, he's referring to his Dragon Punch move. If you don't believe me, see the strategy guide for the game.
They then played on that, and made a character in EGM called Sheng Long which became Gouken ...believe me when I tell you. I talk to Capcom directly all the time!
c.viper is an snk character i don't care what anyone says, and rey myterio plus the the other two snk type characters don't do justice for me, i only play with the real streetfighter characters. but over all good game though.

Right, but that led to Fighter III matches that were 80% defense. Absolutely stunning to watch tourney pros pulling it off against long chains and super combos, but at the same time....
I have a question: Is there a way to make Xbox 360 joysticks, i.e. Street Fighter 4 Fightstcik, work on the Wii? If so, I will get Tatsunoku Vs. Capcom right now from Videogame Central!
Unfortuantely at the moment there is nothing that is made to be able to let you do that, however there is a Wii Hori Stick that will be able to let you play Tatsunoko VS Capcom flawlessly!
This is for people who seem to never be able to connect to a game when they play sf4 online.....u HAVE to make a game...dont try joining one....when u make it, people always join, and i mean always, within 10 seconds....im not sure about 360 but for people with a ps3....INSTALL THE GAME, matches, both online and offline, will be almost an instant load.
As for opening up gameplay opportunities, the parry from SF3 did that job much better than the focus attacks in SF4. Especially for "seasoned veterans". I like the focus attack too, but they should have left the parry in there in some form or option. Great review, by the way.
The thing with the focus attack is that it's exclusively a one move counter, meaning that you can only counter with the single attack that is part of the focus attack. The parry let you counter with literally any move you wanted, even special moves and supers. Imagine the many more possibilities with the parry compared to the focus attack.
can someone who's played it tell me if its easy too pull there special combos with the flick of the controls instead of molding your fingers into practice of timing the combos and difficulty of the orginal games..I mean like you can pull a combo with ease instead of practicing over with everybody in SF4..
depends on the character. Characters like Ken, Dans, Ryu and Sakura - thier combos are easy to pull off with little to no practice. Charge charcters like guile balrog take a little more effort. Realistically though you can olny get so far with a control pad with this game. You really need an arcade stick to play this game since thats what it was designed for. Otherwise you will never be able to do certain combos or even complete some of the charcater combo challenges.
You give it a lower grade because it didnt come out when you think it should have... That makes no sense, you dont grade a game on something like that.
Yes, it's called redundancy. As great as the game is...it's primarily another similar addition to the SF franchise. In my mind as much as I like the game there is a certain amount of rehash that continues...though it's a very refined and enjoyable rehash on a next-gen platform.

There isnt a pause, there is a delay until the next hit which gives veteran ( or simply skilled players) the ability to chain and Link hits.
What do you mean by System direction and Ex options?
Seriously, this game is fucking great. it's easily worth 60$, i myself would have payed double that aswell.
It's like 3s, with better graphics and some nerfed characters ( but no parry system :( ).

Yeah well I got it 2 days ago, and I thought the online was awesome (apart from me sucking), so I honed a couple moves and learned how to perform blanka's ultra and super and now I can't get a game that freezes between frames for 1-2 seconds sometimes! I know it's not my connection.
Anyone wants a game from UK invite me, I need to get better :).

I give this game a 6.0 because.they taken away all the character specials. the game is really unblanced especially the grabing system, for instince you could grab someone no matter what. when i fought seth,he grab he out of my ultra special.(c. viper) some characters are over powered and cheap as well especially the boss. overall it doesn't feel like a street fighter game. by the way,what happened to deejay, t-hawk, and guy. rufus is the worst character I ever seen in my life.

El Fuerte is the biggest joke I've seen since Dan. Seriously, I'm pretty good at these games and I couldn't win with this guy till I figured out his moves and started using the ONLY useful one I saw. Pretty pathetic when your NORMAL attacks are more useful than your specials.

I never played Street Fighter before so this was an entirely new experience for me and absolutely the best fighting game I ever played, but I do agree with the hassle of online mode is the game's fatal flaw if any. Still online is hella fun once you get an opponent.

Played it the other night against a mate, 40 wins to me 8 to him :D still got it! , But the new characters wtf :( and also if you put rounds to 1 and very easy to try and unlock the chars quick dont! Seth is for some reason almost impossible to beat and is so annoying,

lol, the reviewer is pretty funny. Yea that opening track....why did capcom do it? I mean they must have had a board meeting to decide what song would be the flagship anthem for another 20 years. I just don't think this one is it, although it grows on you after the first 540 times you hear it.

Sheng Long isn't Gouken's name. When Ryu states: "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance." in Street Fighter 2, he's referring to his Dragon Punch move. If you don't believe me, see the strategy guide for the game.

They then played on that, and made a character in EGM called Sheng Long which became Gouken ...believe me when I tell you. I talk to Capcom directly all the time!

c.viper is an snk character i don't care what anyone says, and rey myterio plus the the other two snk type characters don't do justice for me, i only play with the real streetfighter characters. but over all good game though.

Right, but that led to Fighter III matches that were 80% defense. Absolutely stunning to watch tourney pros pulling it off against long chains and super combos, but at the same time....

Unfortuantely at the moment there is nothing that is made to be able to let you do that, however there is a Wii Hori Stick that will be able to let you play Tatsunoko VS Capcom flawlessly!

This is for people who seem to never be able to connect to a game when they play sf4 online.....u HAVE to make a game...dont try joining one....when u make it, people always join, and i mean always, within 10 seconds....im not sure about 360 but for people with a ps3....INSTALL THE GAME, matches, both online and offline, will be almost an instant load.

As for opening up gameplay opportunities, the parry from SF3 did that job much better than the focus attacks in SF4. Especially for "seasoned veterans". I like the focus attack too, but they should have left the parry in there in some form or option. Great review, by the way.

The thing with the focus attack is that it's exclusively a one move counter, meaning that you can only counter with the single attack that is part of the focus attack. The parry let you counter with literally any move you wanted, even special moves and supers. Imagine the many more possibilities with the parry compared to the focus attack.

can someone who's played it tell me if its easy too pull there special combos with the flick of the controls instead of molding your fingers into practice of timing the combos and difficulty of the orginal games..I mean like you can pull a combo with ease instead of practicing over with everybody in SF4..

depends on the character. Characters like Ken, Dans, Ryu and Sakura - thier combos are easy to pull off with little to no practice. Charge charcters like guile balrog take a little more effort. Realistically though you can olny get so far with a control pad with this game. You really need an arcade stick to play this game since thats what it was designed for. Otherwise you will never be able to do certain combos or even complete some of the charcater combo challenges.

You must have Sakura, Dan, Gen, Cammy, Rose, and Fei-Long unlocked.
Beat Arcade Mode on any difficulty and with any settings, using any character.
Must have at least 2 Pefect Rounds before defeating Seth.
Cannot lose any matches and use a continue.
Defeat Akuma. To unlock him. Yes you can use Seth online.

Yes, it's called redundancy. As great as the game is...it's primarily another similar addition to the SF franchise. In my mind as much as I like the game there is a certain amount of rehash that continues...though it's a very refined and enjoyable rehash on a next-gen platform.
