  • Beautiful...............

  • I had this on VHS many years ago and couldn't find it, but this song from that concert remained in my head all this time. I never knew the song title, but I knew the melody and the chorus. Finding this today was a 10-year dream come true, because I didn't even think copies of that concert were available for purchase. This song still ministers to me after all this time. May the name above all names bless you continually for blessing Youtube with this.

  • I remember this - great performance!

     Always

  • This clip actually came from the PBS Special, "Going Home to Gospel with Patti LaBelle" in 1990....

  • Difficult to say who is better...they both write extremely relevant music...in very different styles...Perhaps Edwin's is a little more pop orientented. Such great talents and witnesses...an exceptionally gifted family... so glad that they are still with us..

  • He was better than his brother..

    walter got all the praise!!

  • Actually Nobody knew of Walter until 1975 once "Love Alive" was released. Matter of fact a lot of people never knew Edwin had any brothers.

  • Walter got his praise in music courteousy of his big brother Edwin many years later after Oh Happy Day was recorded in '68 Edwin was very big from the time the 1st recording hit and is still more widely know than Walter in many respects, but they are equally as deserving of all praise by their fans. We would have never know of the Hawkins Family if Edwin Had of never came along.....

  • @soulbrother34 Walter became well know through the Edwin Hawkins Singers and the Hebrew Boys in the late 60's and early 70's. And, many people knew Edwin had a rather large family from the beginning. However, Walter hit his stride with his own choir's albums in the 70's. And the 80's and 90's were just as good. Strangely enough, Walter was a better speaker and song writer than singer, even. He was a tremendous speaker, and will be missed for that, I am sure.

  • @VantisDoroHall ...believe me I know the history about Walter since he was my pastor for over 17 yrs., but he got start with thew Edwin Hawkins Singers in '68, but not many people outside of those that knew Edwin, even knew he had 2 younger brothers Daniel & Walter and also Edwin had 2 older brother too. My family and the Hawkins Family go back to the late 1940's. It wasn't until shortly after the Love Alive Series which was started and was released in 1975, that the name Walter Hawkins began...

  • @soulbrother34 I grew up in the Mid-west, and people there knew of Walter early on. It was long before he was a pastor, and his choir recorded. It was because of his high lyrical tenor voice that he was known so well. There were other high tenors in gospel music at that time such as Charles Taylor and Frank Jackson, but Walter sang even higher and with such ease, that he stood out. Because so few heard him preach, he was better known for singing. But his church is his true legacy.

  • @VantisDoroHall ...to become a house hold name. Not many even knew for a while that he was even a Pastor. So Bishop really didn't become well know for his preaching until the 1980, '90's and up until he passed in 2010. His voice was very distinctive and he was the only male Gospel Singer to hit some very high notes naturally before Donnie McClurkin came along in 1993...

  • @VantisDoroHall ...Along his success with the Love Center Choir, Walter (Bishop Hawkins) got his siblings together in 1977 and they released their 1st LP project which put them in the history books as the first family of Gospel Music. So those people that heard him sing from the beginning will remember Walter Hawkins more his vocal skills than his preaching and yes he could preach too. You also have to remember that when he was with the EHS he only lead 4 songs total....
