  • i like the book, i like the music. but omg the side notes throughout the video MADE this for me, haha.

  • @HigherPoker

I, and quite a lot of other people I'd assume, liked this song BEFORE the book. The book and the song are favored among many people so please don't bash them. Nobody is commandeering the song. Do you fully grasp the word 'commandeering'? It still belongs to The Smiths and you can still listen to it and NOT read the book or think of the book. Nobody is demanding you do and there are more songs mentioned in the book BECAUSE they are good. (continued)

  • @sytrue - as a fan you should be thankful that people who haven't had the privilage to hear the song get to because they heard about it in a book rather than from someone demanding they listen to some cover band who would ruin it. You like the song, I like the song, they like the song, the song is liked and if some of that comes from a writer who also adores the song then so be it. I'm thankful that others get to listen to it, and thankful a book I love mentioned a song I love.(cont-)

  • @sytrue

If you dislike the book, then why click on a video that is about it. In the title it states clearly what the video was about. I'm sorry about this rant, but you clicked 'post' without taking everything into consideration first.

BTW:How can we ruin a song that has been 'much loved song for a long time' before we 'got news of it'?A good song is not simply ruined because people who may or may not have gotten wind of it in a book, also enjoy it.It's good,or its bad.

    That is that.

  • the pictures cheapen it

  • @oxierox

I'm always amazed that people still comment this video after about four years. :)

I agree, the pictures do cheapen it. Around that time I had discovered the wonders of Movie Maker and had thought youtube videos would be more effective with pictures. If I redid it today, I'd just use the poems and excerpts from the book.

  • @sytrue I understand what you were trying to accomplish and so it's still beautiful :) loved the book and very excited for the movie - the author is screenwriting and directing so it should be AMAZING!

  • @oxierox Thank you. Yes, it is exciting, though I'm wary about the casting at the moment...

  • @Pollyrockgravity Sad? Why?

  • This song makes me feel infinite. (:

  • i'll be honest. This book was different from other books.

i loved Charlie's story and how he learned and explored.

Everything was great. It felt like the author made the reader a part of the book itself. But, what i didn't like was the way it was written. I didn't really like the fact that the author summarized things that happened between days or months. that was the only flaw, for me at least. :|

  • @writtenxsecrets

Sometimes it was aggrivating, and I definately would want more from the book, but perhaps that made it a little more effective in a way. Maybe. After reading the book its hard to imagine it any other way, and if you try it may very well be spoiled. :)

  • @writtenxsecrets It's actuall very similar to The Catcher In The Rye, just in a more current setting.

  • reading the book while listening to this on repeat ... life is effing good.

  • @makeupobsessed68

Oooh, yeah. Ignore the pictures, embrace the poem, soak in The Smiths.

  • Comment removed

  • I feel Infinite. ♥

  • 0:00 ..... For Charlie

  • thank you for uploading this

  • I am reading this book in my english lessons in Germany. I love this song - its touching and very sad.... just awesome. But isn´t it about suicide?

  • @Niinc33 ye it is.

  • @Niinc33 The poem is, and I think the song is too. The song was mentioned in the book and I fit it to the poem because they worked together.

  • Whats all this talk about wallflowers I've always been a huge fan of

The Smiths/Mozz why don't I know of this book or Movie???

God! gotta give thanks to my big sis for playing this ever night before bed when I was a kid. Just beautiful!!!

  • @91mozz

It is a great song, and I do recommend the book. :) It's sad and has its layers. Some people don't fully grasp the book without re-reading it sometimes, but worth it no matter what.

  • this book has pretty much been my everything since the seventh grade. to the uploader, I cannot thank you enough for this video. its like the strange familiarity and sense of being at home. this song, this poem, this book.

  • @r0adkillbarbie

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Gotta love that familiar tingle.

  • I cry enery time I read this poem and hear this. I met Stephen Chbosky and he said that it's his favorite poem. I think that it's mine as well. [I Feel Infinite]

  • i thought i was the only one who would look this up because of the book[:

  • @007kassey

You're not alone when it comes to this book, I'd be surprised if someone didn't look it up after reading the book.

  • EMMA WATSON IS PLAYING SAM IN THE MOVIE!!!

  • Errr...

  • I LOVE THAT POEM!!! Its one of my favourite parts of he book.

  • when i hear this song i just think of sam and charlie being happy

  • dear charlie, thank you for all the people u have inspired, and made life easier, hopfully ur life gets better to, love always,

    your friend that listened.

  • @HigherPoker I don't understand where your logic is when it comes to declaring that said certain group of people are "ruining" the song just by relating it to a book. Care to explain?

  • @HigherPoker "you people" ....glad people who read are such a disgrace to society. and your little smiths world.

  • This was pretty good, the song compliments :)

  • Love it! But one question, I haven't finished the book just yet, is this poem in the book? If so what page?

  • honestly, this book is my favorite because it's the last one i read

  • @ariellovesu3333

At least it would have been a favorite at one point.

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT CHARLIE, THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT HIM, OR YOUR STUPID BOOOK!

  • @MissLondon84 the song isn't about you either. it's about whatever people want it to be. The Smiths chose to allow others to interpret their music however any of us wanted to. Chbosky used this song as a tool to help define a very emotional fictional character many people like myself hold close to their hearts. if it annoys you so much that people keep talking about the book you could easily avoid these threads all together and simply listen to the song by yourself in peace.

  • @jbarnett2246 then go read the book instead of boring us with it. It's been said before and it shouldn't need saying again. This song is not about that book. It never was.

  • @MissLondon84

If you love the book and hate the song, then you don't have to listen. If you hate the book, but love the song, then listen and don't read.

Why did you feel the need to rant on something 4 years old? To bore us with an already stated and deflected opinion? That wasn't nice of me, was it? And that will cause you to get defensive, won't it? Be mature if you don't agree, and simply continue your life without this affecting you. Love to the song and to the book.

  • @jbarnett2246

    THANK YOU.

  • @MissLondon84

First of all, book only has two O's.

Second of all: See a rant I recently posted for HigherPoker who didn't seem to grasp that people LIKE BOTH THE BOOK AND THE SONG! The song isn't about Charlie, it is mentioned in a book. Instead of idiotically ranting about it please just inform them of their mistake. There is no need to swear, you don't need to click on a video titled for a book just to rant about the song. You aren't doing the band any favors by being a jerk.

  • I first read Perks when I was in 7th grade (I'm now about to go into 11th this fall) and I can say before the book, I hated reading, now I adore it. The book not only helped me love reading, but has gotten me through some pretty shitty times over the past 4 years. Charlie, we are more similar than I thought we'd be.

Thanks for helping me figure out a few things about life.

  • My friend gave me this book to read and i thought it looked boring but when i started reading it i was so different and moving, its like no other book! goodjob Chbosky

  • you kinda killed the poem...

  • @DESERTICAa

Sorry, 15 year olds will do that sometimes. :) I do not think the poem will ever die though, nor will the song or the book. You still enjoy it? Do you still read the book and go 'wow' when the poem comes up? Then it is not dead. An oversensitive person who hardly cared for or grasped the poem will think so, but I do not think you are one of those people.

  • This book is my Favorite because it is the last one i read.

  • This vid. sucks. No offense, but this doesn't even portray the theme of the poem properly, the pictures are not right for it.

  • @ChivsnLexi

I was 15 and just learning to use movie maker. Sorry, and I think you did mean to make an offense in a way, because how else would I pay attention? At this point, I agree that the pictures sucked, and if I redid this video I wouldn't use them. I'm older now and surprisingly wiser than I was.

  • @sytrue No, I really meant no offense> Just an honest opinion.

  • @ChivsnLexi

Well okay then, good. Thank you.

  • Dear Charlie,

You've given me life again. Thank you.

    Love always,

    Adam.

  • I just finished reading the book and loved it, glad my friend encouraged me to read it and am excited to see how the movie is going to turn out =) oh and the song I had to check it out ^_^

  • Dear Charlie,

    Thanks.

    Love always,

    Your friend.

  • I have to say this at the risk of being shouted at but I was quite underwhelmed by The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It seemed to me like any other coming-of-age american teenage book. Having said that it did show me some good music (althougth I already knew about the Smiths) and this poem is really good. Did the author write it himself or did he borrow it form somewhere?????

  • @Shopola

When I was younger I had never seen a 'coming of age american teenage book' that involved homosexuality, molestation, drugs, alcohol, and music like that book had. Some people are overwhelmed, some people whelmed, and others underwhelmed. To each their own. :) Love the Smiths with or without the book! I think the author borrowed it from somewhere.

  • I absolutely love this book. It inspired me soo much & although it is a somewhat sad book, I loved it completely. This is my favorite book <3

  • My boyfriend gave me this book to read after he read it all on one night... Then I proceeded to read it all in one night. Couldn't put it down. I recommended it to like everyone i know. Its so amazing.

  • perks of being a well flower is my favorite book-because it was the last one I read.

No seriously I love this book.

  • This is absolutely beautiful - oh my god I had no idea this song was sung by the Smiths first. I have this song on my iPod covered by Emilie Autumn (beautiful too but this is powerful in a different way). I didn't find out about this song until I read this book (just finished it a few minutes ago - I couldn't stop crying. So powerful). I am so glad my YA Lit Professor made us read it. I think I have just found my favorite book.

  • I've read this book at least 6 or 7 times, every time I get something new out of it, I've had different experiances I apply to it.

I'm 4 months from graduating high school and I'm afraid it just won't mean the same things to me after I do. But I hope not.

Regardless, this is my favorite book of all time.

  • Favorite book and favorite band :))

  • I am 18 and would classify myself as a "Wallflower". I remember the night I lost my virginity...I went to Borders and read this miraculous book then decided to attend a party where I hooked up with a classmate. It is amazing how much a book can change you.

  • It might be weird that I am a girl and this is my favorite book ever,, but I can read this same book day after day after day. It's really amazing and it does NOT deserve to be on the banned book list!!

  • @whateverdud666 It's on a banned book list?!

  • @5minutesToForever

Yes. It was banned for sex, homosexuality and drugs and for being "anti-family". It's really, really sad when people ban books for homosexuality. It is actually one of the most banned books ever.

  • @whateverdud666 That is ridiculous. It is really sad when that happens. That is stupid... I don't even know how to explain how stupid that is. That book is the most amazing book I've ever read.

  • I'm reading this book for the first time now, and I have to say it is one of the most simplistic, most beautiful pieces of literature I have ever read. I felt every one of Charlie's experience's as though I had experienced it myself. Chbosky really did well on this one. And the song is so beautiful too.

  • This book is the greatest piece of literature ever written. Charlie reminds me of me in a lot of ways. It was a nice feeling to read a book with the narrator being an emotional guy which isn't found that often. A lot of young adult novels are geared towards girls, but this book has a special spot in every teen boy's heart and even after our teens we'll still love it. I love Charlie. Every time I read this book, I feel like I'm talking to a friend.

  • It is my favorite book. My favorite teacher gave it to me because she said that I remind her of Charlie. My mind is much like his. Ever since she gave it to me, I read it at least once or twice a month.

  • wow. im reading this book for the first time as a sophomore, whereas most freshmen read it. and they keep on saying how stupid and gross it is. immature idiots, they can't even see the beauty and emotions of this fantastic book. definitely one of my favorite books now, and im only half-way through :)

  • I have read this book 9 times. I connect with Charlie on so many levels.

The shyness, the unrequited love, the panic attacks he doesn't remember, all of it.

I just want to meet Charlie, and hug him and say we could be friends, and everything will be okay.

  • I fell in love with the book and the song. A guy I met said it was a great book."the perks of being a wallflower" will forever be my favorite book.

  • I actually cried a bit when I saw there were any dislikes.

  • Sad to know such an amazing song was introduced to a lot of people just through a book.

  • ....nice......posted this vid......on my facebook.........help me out anyone.....did the author write this poem, then kill himself??????? hit me up, anyone.....Brian Thomas.......

  • This is such a beautiful book, pure magic. And Charlie, what would I give to have a friend like him.

  • The Book has the most awesome playlist ever. A Mixtaper's dream.

  • i loved this book so much, you just have to read it, its that simple. its a must.

  • page 10 second to last paragraph, my favorite quote of the book

  • At this part when Sam told Charlie that she wanted his first kiss to be from someone who actually loves him since hers wasn't.... and then with the typewriter... and then the Poem... I was crying harder than Ive ever cried in a book.

  • this is such an amazing book

  • Shouldn't the ''One Winter'' mix tape be an album??

  • wow i started reading this book because of this video :)

stayed up all night reading it! :D

    i feel like i miss micheal :(

  • @darlingchica I think we all miss Michael.

  • @outlaw586 did you read catcher in the rye afterwards?

  • @darlingchica Yup.

  • I love this poem, and now, thanks to Charlie and this amazing book, I love this song too :)

  • I love this poem, and now, thanks to Charlie and this amazing book, I love this song too :)

  • 1. screwtwlight this book is BEAST!

and im only half way done with it

    2.this song is so epic.

    3. this book is just flat out amazing and im not even done that says alot

  • I cried so hard in that part, with the poem.

  • I finished the book a few days ago, and it was a book I've never read and I read a lot of books before. The music, the books describe in this book are all amazing. The book is quotes of inspiration. This songs is what I didnt excepted but fits the book truely. I'm glad my sister showed me this book so I can pass it on to more:)

  • I started reading this book today and this is the first time ive put it down because I had to know what this song was

  • Nothing short of excellence.

    Nothing short of beautiful.

    Nothing short of perfection.

  • Forever my favorite book...it even has an amazing soundtrack!

I hope they don't make it into a movie. I think it's beautiful just the way it is. The movies only going to express the director's point of veiw on it. That's the good thing about books: they have a specail and unique meaning to everyone.

  • @janisluvsthewho I agree with you.

I for one, have my own picture in my head of what everybody looks like, and I think that if they didn't get the right people to play the characters, then I think it will ruin it.

  • i love this book so much im readinq it currently & yes so many emotions :) I cant stop readinq but i dont want to finish it xD

  • i finished this book about 20 minutes ago. i love it. it really makes youuu thinkkk

    <3

  • Fucking teenagers...

  • The Perks Of Being A Wallflower saved my life, I am a better person because of this book.

  • @heybaabyx3

agreed. it truly is life changing.

  • I put off and almost dreaded reading this book. My big brother gave it to me when i became a freshmen in high school. he said it was one of his favorite books and wanted me to read it too, and the only reason i did was because i love my big brother very much and wanted to make him happy. Its a beautiful book, and i say that even though it is not in my usual taste of books at all. my number one turn off in a book, is if its written as letters, I hate that, but i loved it all the same.

  • I'm reading this book right now and OMG i love it<3

It's almost scary how closely the book parrallels to my life... D:

  • This book is truly amazing. It's so captivating on so many levels it's difficult to describe.

  • I got that book when i was around 14, I'm 26 now, I've read it at least two hundred time's since. It's one of those book's that no matter what age you it's still relevant, thought provoking, and now matter how many times you read it it shakes you to your very core. I must admit i do love fantasy book's, sorry not twilight though, it's to poorly written. Even though I'm 26 I still look forward to moments when i feel infinite.

  • This book made me really realize all of those infinite moments in my life.

  • THIS...IS....AMAZING.

  • thanks Charlie and Stephen--such a haunting book. Can't wait for the movie with Logan Lerman and Emma Watson

  • I love this song and The Perks of Being a Wallflower <3

And I love the poem. It was so sad...

By the way, does anyone know what album this song is on?

  • I LOVE this book..so much. I could finish it in one sitting. It's so easy to relate to. And this song is incredible, I know why Charlie likes it so much.

  • I have loved The Smiths and this song has been a fave for many years.....so nihilistic and dark. I dont feel this way but this song reminds me what it must be like in the depths. It reminds me to cherish all that is good and to respect all that is not good......YNWA!!!!

  • I cried very very hard when i read this in my book and its just so sad because i can relate and i just so sad , i love the book it changed my life i am not joking. <3

  • The first time I read it, I was blown away.

The second time, I was blown away and I cried.

The third, I was blown away, I cried, and I smiled.

    The fourth, I felt infinite.

  • incredible video, thank you!

  • this song is amazing. as is the book.

  • I once did a drama piece to this poem .

    It's a heartbreaking poem.

    And a heartbreaking song.

  • The poem's name is "To Santa Claus and Little Sisters" if you wanted to know. :)

  • the poem breaks my heart .........

i love the song .... i guess it's a fav after i read the book

  • i have just finished the book.

    i LOVED it!

  • absolutely love the book, the song, and the poem. i can relate to it all

  • this book should be a movie!

  • If Stephen finds actors, they announced that he was writing the screenplay a few years back

  • the pictures ruined the mood

  • an amazing song for an amazing book.

they both take me someplace else in my mind.

  • His mother hung the poem on the KITCHEN door not the FRIDGE door. fridges don't usually get painted.

  • I loved that poem and I loved that book and I wish I had never lost it. Cuz for awhile now I've been wanting to read it again.

  • Comment removed

  • i had to read the poem a couple times to understand

it's really sad actually but it seems to be what happens alot in life

  • what page is this on i remember reading it

  • Thank you for making this video. You've done a wonderful job of capturing the book.

  • The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

    my favorite book

    in the whole world<3

  • this was a good book but left me feeling down, so now Im reading the hobbit to cheer up again...

  • I wish I knew 'Charlie.'

  • I love that book<3 It's a amazing I want to read it again so bad...Thanks fer the vid!..That poem is probably one of the best poems ever written.

  • i read the book 3 times, thinking about 4th

  • Comment removed

  • i loved the book so much it was the first book i ever reread it was absolutely amazing :)

  • Infinite. thats my new favorite word!!

i read this book 12 times

  • i love this book

  • im glad noone is posting spoilers cus now im probably gonna go read this book

  • nothing left to say... just as great as the book itself

btw where did you get the poem "chops" from? or did you write it yourself?

  • I randomly bought this book two days ago, and finished it yesterday. A quick, deep read.

  • im reading this book right now

  • i cry every time i watch this video..

    x;

  • i know me too. i love this book so much.

  • and people say twilight is an "amazing" book...

yeah right, it doesn't even come close, the emotions that this book has, its just a rollercoaster, i'm still reading it, i can't put it down unless its to use the bathroom, eat, or listen to this song (:

    round of applause to Chbosky.

  • Actually reading it in the bathroom or while listening to this song is quite peaceful. ^_^ WOO CHBOSKY!

  • i know right! i can honestly say i have this song on repeat when i read the book. i keep reading from beginning to where i am now which is part 4.. i can't finish it yet, its too good!

  • @ebizbites I'm a Twilight fan, but I completely agree.

And I just finished reading it, and the only thing that made me take a break, was that I had to go to school. :P

  • @ebizbites Yess it's nice to know some people still have taste in books- personally i loved Love: star girl

  • this is an amazing book i borrowed the book from a friend and read it twice....i rly want 2 get my own copy of the book

  • I read this book twice, both way after I had graduated high school...and each time I get a little more out of it. The writing is easy to read, but it holds so many levels of thought underneath the simplistic text...

  • couldn't have said it better myself (:

  • @discardthispast over the past two weeks i've read this book 8 times... every time i learn new things.

  • This is such a beautiful book. it was well written. love the song, the video could of been better, but not bad.

  • I know. I really wanted to make it better but I didn't have a camera and don't know how to make moving videos yet. :P I have a lot to learn.

  • tht part of the book makes me cry every time thnX so much 4 posting it

  • Well done!

I didn't even read this book yet but I was curious about the vid and I heard about the book.... I have loved the Smiths/Morrissey since the 90's....it is great music any one can connect with....If you guys like this song you should really try more of there stuff. All of it is Awesome.

Oh and yeah the end of this vid made me very curious about this book. I definately have to buy it this week..:)

  • this is my favorite poem like ever its amazing and this is my favorite book and it made me look at things from a different point of view great video :]

  • It really is an amazing book. Thank you all for rating, viewing, and commenting! ^_^ If you have just stopped by and have no idea what The Perks of Being A Wallflower is, THEN GO TO YOUR BOOKSTORE/LIBRARY AND READ IT A.S.A.P!

    :)

  • brilliant

  • everyone needs to read this....
