Now that I'm approaching my dotage I can tell the story told to me by my parents; now sadly departed about me at the other end of my life. We were on the Overhead Railway and were passing a dry dock, when your's truly blurted out. "Look Dad, that boat's tumbled out of the water." I don't remember it. Honest!!
It's such a shame this isnt around today, if it was i truly believe that it would still work today and have vast income from tourism but hey we can only now dream of how wonderful that would be to have such a big part of liverpool still around today.
Unfortunately it would've cost too much to repair in ther aftermath of the war - pity. I once heard it said that it's ironic that what led to it being called the 'Dockers' Umbrella' is what ultimately proved its downfall!
Excellent video - nice to see more footage being posted of this Liverpool institution. Maybe try it without the jumpy effect! Still great though! A *!
i was 2 when i saw this, and still remember it

The Dockers Umbrella was only ever used by the romantic book and film guys and no doubt those who came to Liverpool for 5 minutes.
Was called the "Ovey" and I was posh!!! (Orrell Park) - HaHa

The name Dockers Umbrella is bollocks. Can you imagine anyone in Liverpool calling it that? It was only ever De Ovey.

Yeh I would agree with that. My dad who's from Bootle always called it 'De ovey' and never 'Docker's umbrella'
