  • It is clear that he did not want to trade the queens by allowing ...Qg1+ and in time trouble he did not see ...Qb8++ coming. Besides, this move is somewhat unexpected and is easy to overlook even if one has enough time, because one simply does not expect a mate to occur in such a position, it is not a familiar theme I think. But it is chess, it just happens. Even super GM's are human.

  • o.o didnt see that coming!

  • absolutely no chance that this is a GM game.

  • @hthought

This is indeed a GM game Alexander Beliavsky (2649) vs Leif Erlend Johannessen(2427). If you look at this game, it is a solid game.

I could understand the mistake Alexander did at the 69th move because by that time they are already in time trouble so its easy to over look at simple things when they are focused on something else.

  • @hthought

Well, I was there and I saw it happen, so yes, it's real. Shame for Beliavsky he's a nice guy. We were all standing around watching the game as it was one of the last to finish. In a time scramble it's really difficult to keep the concentration going. Games were played at 90 minutes for whole game plus 30 seconds increment. He'd already been surviving on increment for a long time when this happened. And he was no spring chicken, even 9 years ago.

  • @VitalSigns1 look up the game on google

  • LMAO

  • This is seriously a grandmaster game? Kinda repetitive and erratic for a grandmaster game. Was it blitz?

  • I don't think you know what the word "instant" means.

  • @wouldiemcwood instant, aka checkmate in one after the blunder. :-)

  • that blows..

  • @dcdearth Do some research before trollin'.

  • @dcdearth :

what do you mean "fake and gay"??

it tells you exactly which game this is (players, event, round, year). it's very easy to check that it's indeed not fake!

why just say shit for no reason?

    dumb-ass

  • Holy shit. These guys are pro. They plan the last play all out in the begging this is insane!!!!!! All the white player had to do is put his king to 3H and he would of been okay. Also at 2:50 the black player wanted the white player to put his pawn on 3F to put the queen in danger so it would block off movement of the king to being able to get away from the checkmate. OMG i found that out pretty good. im 16 and i havnt been playing chess that long and i found out the trick of this game. :)

  • @angeriod you're gay

  • @MelenaMonster The guy may have limited skills in chess and poor grasp of chess notation but we have no evidence to suggest that he is gay. And even if he is, so what? His sexual orientarion has nothing to do with it.

  • @Toxie207 Thx bro.

  • @Toxie207

    ur gay

  • @Yes, I am, but, again, utterly irrelevant!

  • @angeriod Hey, angeriod, you're gonna let your boyfriend Toxie stick up for you?

  • @MelenaMonster Ummm? OKAY then? How old are u? Mature a little bit. Its not my fault u got problems buddy. Peace out bro. Im not gonna get mad over something i shouldnt be.

  • @angeriod u mad?

  • @MelenaMonster

Back to 4chan with you, kiddo.

  • @angeriod YEAH okay this was 2 months ago now i know alot more about chess i was a noobie forget about it :P

  • oh my god that hurts

  • And THAT, children, is what happens when you try to push for a win when there IS none. Take the perpetual and live to play another day.

  • What do you mean "Only move that allows an instant mate"?

It's not really an "Instant" mate, either. Just a terribly embarrassing checkmate.

  • @Corvus54 because if he had made any other move besides the one he made, it would've been impossible to mate him on the next move. So, he made the only move that allowed an instant mate.

  • I cringed.

  • Isn't he just trying to protect his pawn on f5 as now black has g6xf5. What do you all think he should have done? Sorry if I'm being stupid.

  • @pmanngw

    fxg6 check to begin with...

  • maybe white was trying to escape black's possible perpetual check tactic for a draw. maybe white realized he still has an advantage with his queen and pawns positional value and tried to seek shelter through the walls of pawns....big mistake in the end....i never would have thought of any danger in that last position if i was playing white. life is like a box of chocolates....you'll never know what you gonna get..hahahah.........imagine forrest gump playing chess instead of ping pong.....peace!

  • watching for perpetual check possibly

  • oops...

  • And there are red faces all around...

  • holy.. Wow.

  • seen this b4 :P

  • holy crap that must have been painful

  • nice mate maybe a little too fast in the beginning
