  • why why why! Why would you record this????

  • oh dear oh dear. why dont you all shut the hell up and just enjoy this video !!

  • If I didn't know better, I would say that looks steam operated

  • im sure this loco would start at -20c as well. This loco had not been started for over two weeks so it did well to start at all given the batteries had not had a charge it that time.

  • -1 is an hot start in the alps. Diesel engine can start easily at -20C. probably your elec pre heating of injectors is fucked up. However really nice video.

  • too funny,,,, green peace would die over this vid lol

  • What kind of cylinder pre heat these engines have?

  • that was a cold start for a diesel the way that smoke is , even without below freezing teperatures , anything with glow plugs and not using them to start first time for the day will do that , cars , lorries , buses , locomotives

  • The next time some tree hugger bitches about how my dirt bike pollutes too much...

  • beast

  • he means the fuckin engine was COMPLETELY COLD fuck,i know ppl cant really be this stupid, lol

  • Im sure, this train got EURO 6 : )

  • So this is the engine the EPA uses for it's private train...

  • Why am i watching this?

  • @mouse212001 Because your inner railfan is controling the computer.

  • the little engine that DID!

  • I think I can start. I think I can I think I can I think I can I CAN START!

  • This is cold for a diesel engine to fire up when it ignites only on heat of compression.

Yes -1c is cold for a diesel if it doesn't have any form of preheating the incoming air or cylinders.

  • @Rotron9573 yes, chicago. in case you are not aware chicago is in america.. not england where the climate is ever so slightly DIFFERENT. get your head out of your arse.

  • This video went viral on Buenos Aires

  • -1C is'nt a cold start.

  • @cybacme So it's a hot start then ? NO NO NO it isn't Look again and will see the sun is sinning !!! NOT .

    It's cold full stop.

  • @GRIDMASTER6 i suppose at -20 c this dont start at all ?

  • @cybacme cold to freeze your balls off. Go ahead and stand outside all at that temp and see how well you do in the morning. This is a good video.

  • @cybacme Are you thick !

  • @cybacme lol, fuckn retard

  • @cybacme

For diesel engines starting in temperatures below zero, a cold start and especially when she has stopped for some time. ;-)

  • co to za amerykanskie badziewie????na czym on jeździ? na słonecznikowym?

  • @36wowa historycznych lokomotyw

  • I think they need big engine block heater for it.....Nice video of a rough start

  • @Rotron9573 You go touch yourself at night

  • Sounds like horses clapping along at about 1 min :P

    Nice work, cheers!

  • @Rotron9573 it also seem the cold has got to what ever brain cells you have left over Prick.

  • @GRIDMASTER6 ahahaha great response

  • hell yeah....!!!

  • Good thing it has Lucas electrics inside...

  • @reluctable

I am talking about very cold or very hot weather here. For example one time I took my Land Rover out during a very cold snowy night, to visit my brother. That biatch quit in the middle of nowhere. Engine just quit working. Some kind of temperature sensor caused it. Almost froze to death. Before that, a transmission quit in the middle of the busy highway. So yeah, they love to pick the wrong place and time to quit working.

  • @filmftw3 You clearly are talking shit !! in fact you are.

  • bless it!

  • Beautiful!

  • @1:01 there's a smoke ring!

  • @flahr1 Nope... In Finland we are still taking sun.

  • Love this video. Just willing that engine to spool up.

  • @havisburger Haha good one. It's rarely colder than 10c below if it's snowing. And 10c below is nothing

  • fuck u enviromentelists sniff that deisel

  • was that started or still trying at the end?

  • Brrrrrr. It looks very cold there.

  • Wait it's not raining in London for once?

  • -5°C and London is dead? LOL

  • funny li'l smoke rings and mushroom clouds

  • If its snowing.. Its below zero? Huh... Lmfao

  • At the end it sounded like my generator with the choke left on

  • Get the crank handle out!

  • the train look sad :(

  • oi your ither a diesel or a steam engine!!!!!

  • Wonderful !

  • This is me waking up in the morning....

  • takes alot out of them pulling cold starts. Does this company always fire their engines cold, or do they keep most of em running or in the sheds?

  • baap...... this is sooper

  • It's cold. It can snow a 0 F, which is about -10 C. And I work here in Wisconsin for the RR. We have plug in oil and fuel heaters for our engines. But with out them, you can can have breakfast while you start it and hope it's running by lunch time! lol!

  • lol thats funny as hell

  • @ 0:32 , 1 RPM, 2 RPM, 3 RPM....

  • for London very cold is 2C above 0. 0 is severe weather conditions. -5C is when public transport partly shuts down and people do not appear at work.

  • @tepadno is that because they get eaten by the Abominable Snowman?

  • @tepadno Funny, we have -30C all the time in Winter at Finland. We still go to work..

  • @Jokk3asd If we had sub-zero temperatures and snow all winter we'd be prepared to go to work too, but as even in the worst winters it's only a few days a year that there is any real trouble it's not worth investing in the infrastructure.

  • @BobElHat anything colder than -40C is ok to stay at home..

  • @Jokk3asd And drink a lot.

  • @tepadno In Lithuania must be at least -25C to don't go to school :)

  • @tepadno What, people don't go to work because its -5c? Sounds like some folks need to grow a pair and get their asses to work.

  • @alderaforall Sounds like you're a troll who has taken the term 'having no life' to such an extent that you watch videos of trains starting, trying to pick a fight.

  • @lazaglider picking a fight? Look in the mirror smart guy.

  • @alderaforall Goodness, that was a fast response. Nothing better to do?

The difference sir, is that your comment was intended to insult anyone from a certain country, it was designed as an attention seeking device, 'ooh look how popular I am, someone I don't know has messaged me!' etc etc. In other words, you made your message for the sole reason of angering people. My comment was aimed at only one moron...

  • @lazaglider no my message was not intended to insult anyone but to point out that -5c isn't that cold and sure as hell doesn't hold water as a good reason to not go to work. You suffer from a case of assumptionitis. You're calling me out yet you're doing the EXACT thing you're crying about. You want some attention and here I am stroking your poor fragile ego. You big baby.

  • Comment removed

  • @alderaforall Ok warrior, I have better things to do that argue with a big man like you!

  • @lazaglider have a nice day sweety.

  • @alderaforall Sorry, I'm not gay. Good luck finding happiness though.

  • if you close your eyes, you can imagine a steam locomotive XD

  • @havisburger if its snowing, its below zero. and for a large diesel, thats cold

  • пока так стоял - ведра три соляры выплюнул))

  • Ehhhhh Just drownd it with ether!!!!!!!!!

  • Did these things start like this from new....?!?!?

  • @CaptYanknBank Only when it's that cold... Any diesel, new or old will behave like that when it's that cold. The fuel is cold, the oil is cold, the moving parts are cold, and those engines are massive, so they take an age to warm up enough.

  • @havisburger What do you mean with that? It was -34 celsius here and snowing.... (finland)

  • For sale on Craigslist. One used locomotive starter motor, only used once. Best offer.

  • SHE LIVES!!!

  • smoke rings O_ó

  • puff puff puff puff puff puff puff puff puff i don't know why i found that so amusing..

  • @havisburger IT WAS COLD FULL STOP.

  • @GRIDMASTER6 If ti was snowing it was not very cold. Period.

  • @sunstarfire it's never too cold for snow.period...

  • either the engines blowin rings or someones having a mad sheesha sesh in there

  • A bear once said...

    how did I get here?

  • few cans of quick start maybe?? haha

  • @havisburger well i disagree we had snow here once when the temp was minus 6 f large fluffy flakes like this

  • fuel too cold for the heat plugs... oh wait i think she is runnin

  • Sound like my brain at the beginning of a math question

  • Cool !!

  • nice beat!

  • 0:20 Sounds like Techno ^^

  • better let that idle for a bit....

  • Its blowing smoke rings :)

  • sounds like me wakeing up<

  • I dont know why i like this vid...

  • I came here for the train

  • you'll end up with a flat battery

  • Environmentally friendly

  • @GeorgeKM84 Considering when it's rolling at max speed, it can get up to 400 TMPG.

  • I think I can I think I can LOL

  • no dpf filters on these lol

  • RINGS :D

  • We all know and love that wonderful sound when the engine finally fires up!

  • sometimes, you start the train, sometimes the train starts you

  • ....Lope FTW!!

  • Wow. Its the strong little engine that could.

  • I watch this video sometimes... I can't explain what I feel, but its the same way you get when you walk outside at 7:00am and its a fresh snow, with moonlight or streetlights gleaming off it, its silent, you know the drive will be slow and relaxing, your car is covered with 4 inches, and you get inside and fire it up... Knowing in a few that you will be warm.

  • The Little Engine That Could, Love IT!!!

  • Love the smoke rings!

  • has the engine fucking started, I only hear an attempt to start

  • It does smoke rings! =D

  • Hey I can see that loco running from my house....and i live in Canada

  • That's just snoop dogg toking behind the train

  • I remember there was one class of engine that could not be shut down , if left in a siding for a few days . The engine had to be left running . It was todo with not carrying enough battery power ?

  • I never would of thought it would of started. That is a well built tight diesel engine.

  • MISTRZ ROBIENIA KULECZEK Z DYMU :D

  • i have a 1957 international tractor (i think its an international) and its like startin one of these trains lol

  • Without diesel power, people would starve and go insane in the winter.

  • Its blowing smoke rings....cool.

  • ...the smell of diesel exhaust in the morning...is...the smell of...a nice warm cab to stay inside of! Pity the conductor and switch-man... oh yeah, the smell of a lit kerosene-lamp, too... ...they're, mystic.

  • 47 people think its too cold

  • работает как трактор т-16,т-25

  • Excellent Video !

  • @IIJG27Rich You Americans think its cold in Canada try living in the Antartica...

The Video is NOT about how cold it is in your country and our country so please stop telling us all how cold it is .

  • @GRIDMASTER6

    Americans? Who's an American?

  • @IIJG27Rich Thought that would get your attention !!! Well you do live in north America.so that puts you as an American/Canadian.

  • @GRIDMASTER6

Sorry about the weather comment it was a stupid assumption.

Yes when you call a Canadian an American you might get bopped on the head with a hockey stick. :)

  • @IIJG27RichTry telling a Scottish/Irish/Welsh person that they are British due to the fact that they live in the British Isles !!! you would get more than a hockey stick in your head.

Try calling a English person European !!!

  • Klasa 55 Deltic w Polsce nie ma szans zapalic w zimie.Zobaczcie SU-45 w zimowy poranek.

  • global warming would make engines easier to start anyway.

  • Now go defrost your window

  • you could two step to it before it warmed up

  • Just *how* cold was it?

  • nice smoke rings

  • I like the smell of diesel.

  • Just let her smoke a bit more and kick off global warming a bit quicker, by hell it looks like you need it! Nice vid tho

  • thats one way to lose the snow

  • Cool video, though I prefer electric locomotives.

  • I have wondered that as on cold weather these "wake up" cylinder by cylinder, is it possible, that one cylinder hydrolocks by unburned diesel fuel before it ignites within safe marginal? Haven't heard of such though.

  • @NesteHukka2 No, the injector does not spray enough to causr hydrolock, since the fuel get blown out from the exhaust cyckle.

It will take huges amount of fuel to cause this, if you think of the wolume in the combustion chamber ( the hole in the piston ) and the litle spray of fuel some 200mg/stroke on this kind of engine

  • I had a 335 Cumins in an old KW that blew smoke rings like that, YEARS ago. One drippy injector is all it takes. Great video!

  • @robert140602 lol its just soot, that goes away when it's warmed up.

  • In the end, the old girl started: the smoke changed colour. In the US, we don't run anti-freeze in our locomotives, so once it gets down to freezing (32* or 0*, take your pick) the engines arn't shut down.

  • @Jfreadhoff why dont locomotives here use antifreeze?

  • @dirtTdude Because antifreeze, if it boils, forms a coagulant which is flammable. The Ladbroke Grove Class 43 had antifreeze in its system and after the crash it caught fire.

  • @mocyoung ethyl glycol is basically refined lard, i get it.. thanks for taking the time.

  • it lives! wow! that's a hell of a machine

  • >sweden

    >cold

  • That took some effort.

  • holy sht its alive almost :(

  • holy sht its alive

  • we love it. i love it mmm.... class 37 we love it

  • @ThaRealGecko

Hey 36 is cool i remember tenting in -36C in the military, but we we had stoves in the tents though.

My definition of when it starts getting cold is when you can't make snowballs because all snow turn into powder if you press it together.

The coldest i've been with vehicles where also in the military, we had to wake up every two hours and run the engines up to work temerature so the Oil wouldn't freeze during the night.

  • @AdurianJ The coldest i have felt is -15º (celcius right? lol) in amsterdam around 1999 or 2000, dont remember, and no... u cant make snowballs. And now im sweatin like a pig (pigs dont sweat o.O) and cant do anything about it... its horrible LOL, car starts to heat up if u go faster then 100 kph...

-36º ffs... i just cant imagine it right now

  • looks really cold there but you notice how the engine blows smoke rings thats way cool there ^^

  • nice!!! we are not allowed to shut down our engines when it gets below 40 degrees Fahrenheit in Texas....if the motor is not running the auto water dump will activate and then we have to call mechanical to put more antifreeze in them before we can go to work

  • in winter cold is -40, -20 would be considered warm here in yellowknife, northwest terriorties

  • I know with diesel trucks you have to let them idle a bit in cold weather, what about this thing?

  • Is the mechanic also a DJ?..because that engine had some rythm beats in it. :)

  • great vid ! why do people keep going on about the cold this is about the loco not the weather.so go watch something about weather!!!!

  • @chipyedd Yes agree people are making to much about how cold it is where they live !! The video is not about how cold it is where they live it's about the loco trying to start when it;s cold.

  • Its cold when your testicals get high enough to be warn like earrings!

  • puh puh puh puh puh

  • @AdurianJ It's not Sweden but it was bloody cold what more can I say ?

  • Comment removed

  • Prime it with some eyhier.

  • A Brit friend of mine, online, is an engineer.. I didn't realize he was connected to trains. He told me to come and look up MAYBACH..I didn't realize what Mayback Music is either..Well, I'm here and now I'm looking at ALL the engines..What a Hoot..lol Thanx for putting this up here...truly...I too always loved the Trains..A Dame in Calif.. xxx ;)

  • Hey, instead of watching the awesome video, why don't we all argue how cold is "cold".

  • @bored1980 Yes lets all argue if it was Cold or Was the sun out on the day !! Enjoy the Video people instead of telling me its colder were you live in this World.

  • @bored1980 Its only cold if my nipples are soft.

  • so .. did it ever run on all cylinders?
