  • Have to concur with most - extremely underrated LP that received heavy rotation in Alaska of all places in late 90s It's solid from Side A to B and still sounds great today.

  • I remember hearing a lot of The Sherbs on a St. Louis Mo. station KWK way back in the day...They've got some other great songs too.

  • I still have this on vinyl. Since the week it came out. Yip!

  • RIP HARVEYJAMES (guitarist)

  • One absurdly underrated LP. "No Turning Back" got some airplay here in America, but it was more or less ignored. Shame.

  • Just wanted to say how much Jack-FM sucks. They'll go from a lost classic rocker like this or "No Time To Lose" by Tarney Spencer Band to some piece of shit song today by Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, Beyonce/Destiny's Child or P!nk. WTF kinda format is that??? IMO it's utter bullshit!!!

  • @bucky468 lol, i never heard of this station, but that's a damn good question.

  • @OnceWasRStrathfield You ain't missing much. Jack-FM is MTV, VH1 & VH1 Classic rolled up into one station, of course w/o all the reality TV crap. I can't fathom any station segueing from a timeless lost classic like this or Tarney Spencer right into "Miss Independent" by Kelly Clarkson or "Hot N Cold" by Katy Perry. Where do their ratings come from? What idiot would listen to a station like that? Who's dumb enough to make such mixes? What next Red Rider "Lunatic Fringe" to Britney Spears?

  • @OnceWasRStrathfield There may be some Jack FM threads here at youtube. If not Google it & see what you come up with. Craziest damn format I've ever heard of. Many Jack affiliates have switched formats b/c they couldn't buy ratings or a valid listening audience. Jack needs to stick to one format. None of this Top 40 BS.

  • @OnceWasRStrathfield Jack FM is defined as the music of MTV, VH1, CMT, BET & VH1 Classic all in one station. I don't see how this can work. I don't wanna hear Madonna right after Black Sabbath. Would anyone?

  • @bucky468 *I* would! That's why I love Pandora- I once heard Hannah Montana and Sid Vicious back-to-back! I've noticed the local Jack FM station is tightening their variety, resulting in my listening it to less. Variety is the spice of life!

  • @bucky468 you guys played Tarney Spencer? They're Aussie too!

  • @OnceWasRStrathfield at least half of Tarney Spencer was Aussie. Alan Tarney was actually originally from England.

  • One of their best live songs, the studio production on this and the album didn't do it justice! sounds great though.

  • I never even been to Australia but this song seems so familiar. The keyboard riff. I love it!

  • @CanzetYote more americans are commenting about their memories of this song than aussies are... the 'sherbs' did better in the US at this time, than they were in oz... a few years earlier they were Sherbet' and were like The Beatles in oz...

  • This song is brilliant. I can't believe it wasn't a hit.

  • Great tune. Lead singer Darryl Braithwait has a great voice!

  • Good stuff here. Thanks for sticking it up. Where's "Back to Zero" hiding? Hasn't anyone posted it? (That was my favorite from The Skill.) Visited here long ago and returned again to listen and comment. Glad to see a few of us recall this underrated crew from down under. Thanks once more for uploading this nice cut.

  • I used to have this song before my hard drive crashed. Could someone please send it to me along with I'll Be Faster and Love You To Death (also by The Sherbs)?

  • Great song! I remember getting 'The Skill' LP years ago, and just picked it up on CD. WNEW-FM rock radio in NYC used to play 'I Have The Skill' and 'No Turning Back' a lot.

  • Great tune! I vaguely remember seeing the official video of this song on MTV may moons ago, not to be confused with this one posted here. The location of the video where the musicians are playing in appeared to be set that looked like a boiler room and most, if not all of the band members are wearing overalls. I distinctly remember the drummer playing a real nice "Pearl" drumkit with that tiny little tom-tom. Has anyone else seen it? Any chance someone could find it and post it?

  • That video was posted but must have been pulled down. Odd thing is, Sherbet were enormous in Australia; but by this stage of their career (as The Sherbs), they were yesterday's heroes.... nice to know that they had a bit of interest in the US during their down period in Oz.

  • I have finally been able to copy my vinyl of this album 'The Skill' to cd!!

This is still an awesome album!

  • URIAHSTEEL: Hi:) I just learned about this album.. I love it

    jd

  • 10,000 views..! shit- they gotta be like 60 .!! damn..! loved these guys.

Anybody remember other bands like Taxxi or Susan..?

  • I always dug the synth hook on this song. That's the bit I always remembered.

  • This was a minor hit in the U.S

They deserved better in the twilight of their career!

    Great songwriters!, and good musicians!

  • Woo hoo, i have the skill, i am so glad you found this one love it

  • Very cute thanks for posting clip. MORE plz

  • Always liked that synth lick that comes at the end of each chorus. When I got my Mini-Moog that was one of the things I used to like to play on it (though I probably didn't play it right, because I hadn't heard the song in about five years at the time)

  • Here in the USA, I only knew them from this one song, but it was enough to impress me greatly upon its release & even here 27 years later. This is one of the more technically-proficient bands of the 80's as this song was very intricate in its instrumentation & vocals; not as intense musically as Saga, Rush or Yes' 80's releases, but definitely one of the better bands of the 80's that unfortunately went nowhere beyond this one diamond of a song.

  • this is brilliant. i like "shaping up"...i wish ther was a sherbet box set, sherbs box set, daryl box set.

  • My favorite song by this great group is 'No Turning Back'

    Thanks for great video:)

ps. If anyone can post 'No Turning Back'I'd appreciate it.. can't find it here in China:(

  • Just got the cd. No turning back one of my all time favorites. The CD is titled "the skill" I will try to learn how to post it.

  • MUNDSTER1: Hi. Thank you:)

    Love and blessings:)

  • The most under-rated band of their era. Would love to see more 'Sherbs' videos. Have all their albums. We Ride Tonight and Winnipeg Sidestep are two bloody great songs.

  • The Sherbs were very under appreciated, even in Australia. I mean, I did not know that The Sherbs had gotten notice in the States.

As Sherbet, the band were enormous in Australia.. as the Sherbs, they couldn't get arrested out here. Lead singer Darryl Braithwait took up a job as a road worker, after The Sherbs split. It took him five years to make a come back.

  • No turning back and we ride tonight where played pretty heavy for a few months back in the day on WHJY a radio staion in Rhode Island.

  • Love it!!! i have all there "albums"

  • sorry,their "albums"

  • You've got all albums by the Sherbs including the ones they did as Sherbet?

  • no,just as The Sherbs.....

  • were they "highway" only in usa ?

did they release two x 7 track mini lps

  • I do.

  • i saw this CD "the Skill" is a 2nd hand store a few weeks ago

  • the songs..we ride tonight and no turning back are awesome!!!!

  • They had a video on MTV called, "We Ride Tonight" with motocycles crashing through road blocks,

  • A friend of mine is in the process of finding that video.

  • This was one of the best songs of the early 80's; great hook, lyrics, and one of the greatest voices in rock.

I really wish these guys had made it big in the USA. The sad thing is - if it weren't for MTV I would have never heard of them.

    Tim

  • Did these guys make an MTV video called Out of the Night?

  • You are probably thinking of the video for "Into the Night" which is apparently hard to find. Great song though.

  • it's not into the night, it's we ride tonight

  • I found this looking for "We Ride Tonight." I'm amazed it's not available as it was on heavy rotation in the early days of MTV when videos were scarce. Thanks for this, and hope that one turns up!

  • It's times like this I wish I had the equipment to convert and upload videos...I have We Ride Tonight on VHS. Still a very cool song...but the video is dated.

  • You sure? I think I still have the casette somewhere, and I was sure it was into the night...

  • My bad; it is We Ride Tonight...

  • i remember after hearing their first song on KSHE radio in st.louis, way back when, i had to get the album right away...good stuff..thankx for posting

  • sylvester stallone bought this album back in 1980 and wanted the sherbs to do a song for one of his rocky movies. never surrender was the first single and was on countdown in may 1980. that would be good to see again.

  • serious? that would have been awesome. any idea why it didnt happen?

  • 99% sure he went with eye of the tiger . if you close your eyes and listen to eye; david bickers voice is just like daryl braithwaites .freaky!!!!

  • How can there not be a video out there for "No Turning Back". Top 40 hit at the time. Love "Juliet and Me" too if anyone has it.

  • I've got almost every video Sherbet (the Sherbs) did from 1970 to 1979 as well as some song they did from around 1984. I'll keep an eye out for 1980+ stuff...

  • Thats why you are the best uploader by far Ryan. We all appreciate your time and effort. Can't wait to see more stuff. x

  • Not sure if any of you Sherbs fans are aware but, The Skill and Parallel bars albums are now available on CD. I found them on casette in the 80's in a bargain bin and was immediately hooked. I waited almost 20 years for them to be put on CD and now I got 'em. Any vids of No Turning Back, I'm alive, or Juliet and Me??? Oh yeah thanks for posting this.

  • I think I might have Juliet & Me somewhere in my archive... It's going to be a bit of a wait for the other Sherbs vids, I'm afraid.

  • Sounds great R, you are the man. Do you or do you know anyone who has anymore GTK clips of Sherbet? I'd love to see Wishing Well

  • I have 'Wishing Well' and 'Do It' (rec. from Rage)... will put 'em up soon.

  • Please please especially wishing well

  • Great song! Very catchy AOR, this is the kinda stuff I like!

  • Hey thanks for this. I am new to YouTube and I am a BIG Sherbet/Sherbs fan from waaaaaaay back - ahh such wonderful memories it has bought back. Thank you!

  • No worries ;)

  • Where's "We Ride Tonight?"

You MUST HAVE "We Ride Tonight!!!!!!!!"

  • As I've already mentioned, it's going to take time. It wasn't much of a hit in Australia; hence it being a little more difficult to find. It's taken me over ten years to get access to Midnight Oil's 'Back On The Borderline' video - somethings don't come with a snap of a finger.

  • -sigh- I know. Sorry.

  • lol, it's all good.

  • Got that right.... Doesn't ANYONE have that??

  • Dang! Flashback to the max!

Do you have "No Turning Back"???

  • I'm not sure, I'll have a look...

  • i have never seen any video of the sherbs in my life! i was a dj in the early 80s and really played this alot and promoted the band. they have another song called we ride tonight? i hope thats the right title. if anyone has the video please add it! thanks bro-

  • yes, well... i'll add 'we ride tonight' once it's found. i'm going through quite a bit of work tracking down obscure videos such as 'we ride tonight' and it does take a lot of time. Incidently, the Sherbs were previously known as Sherbet and I've uploaded many of their videos on my NZOZ accounts.

  • We appreciate anything you put up Ryan, thanks heaps. I am very grateful for the time you spend, best wishes always.

  • Thanx heaps... a promise the 'we ride tonight' video will be up as soon as it's found. i have to extend my search beyond my own collection.

  • PLEASE if anyone has the original video for WE RIDE TONIGHT...upload it! That song RULES!!!

  • It's going to be uploaded soon. I've already asked somebody who has it to upload it and he will when he gets back from holiday.

  • Ryan has plucked another great vid from his arse !

  • welcome back Ryan, we missed you and your fab videos. Please keep them coming espcially sherbet/ Daryl B. Cheers

  • No worries, will do! I have a heap of stuff coming up!

  • OMG Ryan, how do you do it. You are fantastic. Countdown was known for lipsyncing, even though alot of artists hated it. I love this song. Its a shame they folded not long after this. This is classic post Sherbet and I love it. Thanks heaps.

  • They'll be more! ;)

  • This is awesome, even if they are lipsyncing. The guy that uploaded this is the man!

  • Ha ha, thanx. I don't think an original video existed for this track. Also, the unfortunate thing about Countdown was the lipsyncing.

  • i love how the drummer isnt even close to hitting the drums. He does lightly hit the cymbals though.
