  • I remember this got lot of play on WSDM in Chicago when it was new - great station "the station with the girls" back when there weren't that many women on the air. Skip Prokop was also in the precursor group The Paupers that had some interesting rhythms.

  • THEY STILL PLAY IT ON THE RADIO NOW & THEN.

  • Hey, I always thought this WAS Chicago!!

Shows how much attention I had in the "420" days.

  • Well, they suyck.

  • Great tune! Brings back memories...

  • Well, now I know where Nintendo got the riff for when Mario picks up a star.

  • I still have the album..

  • One of my all-time favorite bands! Saw them at Virginia Tech back in 1971 when I was a sophomore there. They had the place rocking! My hands still hurt from clapping. I'm still a little hoarse from singing along to all their great tunes. Thanks for the post!

  • Thanks for the post I used to love this when i was a kid and never knew what it was...just stumbled upon it... :)

  • Can anyone post "8 Miles High?" -- Paul Hoffert's arrangement included the strings, horns and some of the tightest vocals I'd ever heard.

  • I Love AM Stereo :) QC

  • dope

  • Al you guys may have seen Lighthouse here and there, but, for one small moment in time, they appeared in Nov Scotia, and they rocked the house. At that time all the bands were trying the horns sound, like Chicago and Blood |Sweat and Tears (another Canadian band) Was a good night for rock and roll

  • @TheRoy1952 soundslikebill chase

  • Lamm or Kath?

  • Actually Chicago Could have done this With Robert LAmn on lead vocal very close sound here

  • Saw these Guys at some Canadian Festival Circa 1970-1971 near Ottawa (please forgive I have excuse -Grew up in 60s-wink ha ha) Certainly one of the great horn bands of the era, I think Stampeders also on docket, Ive survived thanks to an absence of religion and tenacity /huinger and Oh Yeah a lot of Luck, Anyhow Great stuff Lighthouse if our paths ever cross guys Drinks on me!! Capt Jim Miller (Lead Singer SNOWDITCH Ha Ha)

  • CKLW the motor city :)

  • CKLW the motor city :)

  • 24 seconds in and it is KSHE-95 the best rock radio station in America from St Louis what a cool time to grow up 60's to present love the sounds that take you back

  • @77sunsetable I agree! What a great time be young.............

  • This is one of my top 10 favorite songs of all times. It is so perfect. I tells a story of love, North, South, East and West, I do not care as long as you are with me, I can go anywhere. So fantastic. Classic brass work of the time. Maybe let us get back to our roots? So positive sound.

  • at 0:18....."K-S-H-E News". Inside thing for us St Louisans. LOL

  • OH Yeah!!!!! mighty fine

  • friend from toronto showed me this song in 80s at syracuse....wow

  • Grew up near Buffalo, always loved this band and their "rich" sound.

  • Great song, I must say I thought it was a bigger hit ROCK ON

  • Just realized that this tune came our FORTY YEARS AGO last month. Time waits for no one. Enjoy your life as this tune suggests.

  • Graduated from high school in May 1971, had snippets of this stuck in my head for all these years, never knew the name of group or the name of the song. Reminded of Chicago and other great supergroups.

  • une maudite bonne toune, comme on dit

  • Thumbs up if

KNUCKLEHEADZ CALI vs KILLA FANATIX (Super Crew 11th Anniversary)

    brought you here.

  • Love Lighthouse! Met Bob McBride in 1993. Lovely guy with a magnificent voice. He left us too early.

  • Smokin' tune!!!! & like Forrest Gump... That's all I have to say about that.

  • Had the vinyl record back in 197?. One of the best songs ever. Well written.

  • Always liked this tune. Best song by Chicago not actually recorded by Chicago. If you get my drift.

  • I was lucky enough to grab close to front row tickets for their concert in Ottawa at the NAC in 73 I think it was. Anyway, one of the absolutely most SPECTACULAR concerts I have ever been to and I've been to a LOT!! I wish they'd come back for a reunion tour, the voices are so unique. God those were the days!! :)

  • I was only born in 1968 but once i heard this song it was an instant classic... I think I was three at that time... lol

  • One of the best groups from the horn rock era.

  • This used to be the WWWF Theme between 1974-1975.

  • Whenever I do hear this song on the radio it's always the shortened version.

  • an oldie but mostly goodie!

  • I've only hear this song once, years ago. Never knew who sang it, 'til now. Thank You!!!!!!

  • I grew up in the NW next to the Canadian border and listened to these guys growing up in the 70's,, there was a ton of great bands and music that came from the great white north and most of America probably never heard it. Bands like Chilliwack, Trooper and Aprilwine. Check some of them out!

  • @pinkrick333 Wow. You just described my teenage years in suburban Toronto. Add Rush - they actually played at one of my high school dances - and it's perfect!

Haven't revisited these years in.... years. I also still remember the Chum Charts (comment below) - wish I had kept some of them.

  • This song only made #13 for Chum Radio in Toronto?

The folks back in '71 must have been on something, this is #1 Hit Material.

  • @luckyvet

The problem is that back then there was so much REALLY GOOD MUSIC

This was considered mediocre. The music back then was light years ahead of the garbage today

  • I found this looking into Howard Shore's career (composer for the Lord of the Rings movies)... according to wikipedia he played alto sax for Lighthouse from 1969 to 1972. Lots of talent here!

  • This was a sure fire way to get everyone to the dance floor if it was empty in the day.

  • @chaslmbo In that case,I couldn't picture anyone being a bump on a log at a dance or wedding reception while this song played.

  • I can see the resemblance to Chicago Transit Authority (Chicago I) before they sold out and became a glorified "wedding band." Excellent tune from those wonderful days of "underground radio" (in my neck of the woods WOWI.

  • Thank you KSHE 95 for playing this almost every morning and making my day ^^ Im only 18 and I love this song

  • Lighthouse actually put out two albums prior to 'One Fine Morning', at which point they 'cracked' the charts. Comparing Lighthouse to Chicago is unfair in that they just happened to be rock bands with horns. But Lighthouse also had a great string section! This band was more a mini-orchestra with a jazz pianist, a rock guitarist, funky bassist, and very adept drummer in Skip Prokop, who also penned this tune.

  • @MrCherryJuice - Yeah, but the same could be said about Chicago. I find they sound very similar.

  • this song brings back so many memories.....mostly good ones

  • Mmm fog horns too for Friday

  • LIGHTHOUSE... sounds like the band ( CHICAGO )

  • WOW!!! I forgot about this song...Flashback city!!!!

Thanx for a smashing upload....stay gold

  • This classic was featured in the trailer to "Anchorman" starring Wil Ferrell & Christina Applegate. Think it was in the movie too. I can't remember.

  • The very first concert I went to Mapleleaf Gardens in Toronto where I was born ,back up was Sha-na-na on New Years eve!!! It was 1971 or 1972 I was like 11

    The best!!!!

  • Chicago wanna bees, but great in their own right.

  • Not asshole!!!!

  • @dennyboy10cookie Inteligent comment! Chicago was around 5 years before these guys and is still around.

  • @namxw the same chicago sound, kick azz song

  • Met Skip Prokop today... Such a cool guy!!!

  • Live in Kitchener last night - One Fine Morning one of the best tracks of all time and I'm from the UK. Still have goose bumps from the live show. BRILLIANT !!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • In my younger days I use to go to yard sales and thrift stores searching for music from the 60's & 70's. Came across "LIGHTHOUSE LIVE " a 2 record album. It contains 8 MILES HIGH and SWEET LULLABY.Powerful vocals and horn section similar to early CHICAGO.I still collect records but hard to find record players.

    @ radiovixen76..contact me on FB

  • The beginning guitar reminds me of Ren and Stimpy...

  • Great music, great time to be young, now great time to be old and remember being young.....LOL

  • @buffspringfield I agree whole heartedly.

  • @buffspringfield yes and absolutely yes- wouldn't give the memories back for anything!

  • I'm 18 and I love Lighthouse! In fact I love all classic rock, especially Canadian rock classics like this!

  • dope jam to bboy to

  • I remember this song from my childhood - always loved it!!

  • Lighthouse, (early) Chicago, Blood, Sweat and Tears, and Ides of March. Come back we need you!

  • Finally! Been trying to find out the name of this band for the longest time. Great sound,.. very similar to Blood S&T, Ides of March, early chicago.

  • Fantastic sound from the past!

  • @takemeback2 I agree. It makes me think of when I was young, thin, beautiful and sexy.

  • @RedRoseOfNY All right then!

  • Not just the Great White North. Fall Of '71 WSHE Fort Lauderdale at least once a day.

  • 40 years later and they still sound great.

  • This song begs to be covered. Not that anyone will knock out a better version, mind you. I'm neither here no there on Michael Buble, but someone with a band his size should be working this into their live show.

  • @hklinker Actually might not be a bad idea...

  • OMG wonderful!!! thank you

  • Dang gives me chills

  • OMG thanks

  • These guys going to be in victoria park london ontario for new years eve 2011

  • sounds like the BAND chicago in the beginning

  • sounds like chicago

  • @NonRider Toronto I believe

  • This was one the radio earlier and I couldn't remember who sang it...so here I am. Hooray! Long live Canadian music! Merry Christmas from Northern Ontario. XO

  • @jenzeppelin Right on my friend ! Love to be in Ontario's North - I wish I could get up there more often.....Have a great New Year, and keep enjoying the great Canadian talent past and present !

  • Saw them live a month ago...they are still very good!

  • Met most of the band members. They were talked out of playing Woodstock. Imagine how far they could have gone state side. They were better than many of those bands... Still, they were a big part of Cdn music scene at the time. I loved their live album.

  • @50lillianstreet: Why were they talked out of playing Woodstock?

  • @Neville6000

I had an opportunity of speaking with a couple of ex members who both said the manager had talked them out of the show. He didn't see the value in it at the time.

  • Canadians ROCK

  • I was in college in jazz band and loved taking the trumpet lead on this song. Those were great times when rock actually had horns. I hope it comes back someday.

  • love the horn section. To die for in this day of age.....yeah, I am old fart but this is music

  • Just to let you know that Lighthouse is still performing and sounding better than ever. Check out their website - especially the history section - to see the true story of Lighthouse. They also have a new CD/DVD that is, in the band's opinion, the best recording ever.

  • @brenbagel Thanks for that information. This seemed to be one of the best of all the rock groups. Just felt they were a little underrated. I loved this so much!

  • One of the groups that ignited my musical aspirations. Thank you Edison Lighthouse.

Today I perform with Vinnie Pantaleoni from Steel Breeze from the 80's, and Brian Nakagawa from the Jesus Christ Superstar tour with Ben Vereen.

  • @hubertpilk This song is by Lighthouse, whereas Edison Lighthouse is a different band ("Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes").

  • Great tune-I haven't heard this in years

  • Bob McBride will always be the voice of Lighthouse. It's sad that he was let go by the band in 1973 before they recorded "Pretty Lady" Great vocal performance by McBride and also a great horn section. They were one of the best Canadian bands of all-time even if their stay on the charts was short-lived.

  • wicked guitar solo baby!

  • nice kick ass song

  • I could listen to my papa play the sax all the time...

  • @jenniferjollimore I knew your dad very well. My dad was the arranger, Neil Pooley. Keith was at our house a lot. Your dad was a great guy.

  • Makes me want to get the bell-bottoms & floppy wide- collared shirts out..

  • Wow, that song has been rattling in my head for years. Thanks for posting.

"Blood Sweet and Tears" with a dash of "Ides of March"

  • @kenmtb you can also add chicago in there too

  • @kenmtb and a little bit of burton cummings...

  • @kenmtb Exactly!

  • I was 12 when these guys hit the radio airwaves with One Fine Morning. Living in Rochester, NY....I listened to WBBF radio...and heard all the cool top 40 hits. Lighthouse played a free outdoor concert in Rochester for the thousands who donated their time (and money) for the old annual Hike For Hope 25-mile walk. After finishing the walk, I was exhausted. But lying on the cool green grass...feeling the rays of warm sun...watching beautiful women....listening to this band...simply nirvana.

  • OMG... I know the riff on guitar, what a great song.....am I that old?

  • I remember Chase too, He once played in the Woddy Herman, Big band!!!!

  • @heavensmelody: Howard Shore

  • Lighthouse's version of Eight Miles High is better than the original, and I say that with great admiration for the Byrds. Is there a version of it anywhere on youtube?????

  • Classic Lighthouse circa 1971. Listened to it all the time in college. Loved it then and still love today!

  • Classic Lighthouse circa 1971. Listened to it all the time in college.

  • Awesome song.... Always brings my spirits up!!

  • who was in the band?

  • Saw Lighthouse this past July. First saw them in 1974. Skip, Paul, and Ralph are three originals still with the band. Great concert even it was pouring rain.

  • This song is just a classic !!!

  • just gotta say...loved it back then...love it STILL!!

  • Hey Skip Darcey is doing great in the music business. Up and coming;;;;

Will never forget u helping us and advice years ago. Will contact in future.

    Love michele/sarnia

  • The lead singer was Bob McBride from Toronto who died recently. He had a minor solo hit with "Treasure Song" (1973) after leaving Lighthouse. Drummer and band founder Skip Prokop took over vocals (on "Pretty Lady" in 1973, for example). As far as I know, his solo stuff was never released on cd.

  • @mangafan2007 ..I didn't know Bob McBride passed...when..do you know where..what is Skip Prokop up to now..do you know...I met them in Toronto in the mid '70's..a "little" party @ a bar on Young St...would like to know what became of them??..thanks for your info..

  • sounds like a canadian BS&T

  • Saw these guys live when I was little, hope to see them once more at least... spectacular epic stuff!

  • WOW OVER THE PAST SIXTY YEARS I HAVE PLAYED WITH OR HEARD EVERY CANADIAN BAND WORTH LISTENING TO BUT THIS BLOWS ME AWAY. GREAT HORNS GREAT RHYTHM AND WHO IS THE LEAD VOCALIST. IS THAT RAY ON TROMBONE GOD REST HIS SOUL.

  • Wasn't at least part of Chase killed in a plane crash?

  • @aewhitehouse ha ha

  • One fine morning when I throw up, wipe the puke from my fries. Go outside and feel my dogs balls then I know I'll feel his thighs that as long as you shove me girl, I'll cry..........

  • One of the coolest singles ever to grace the AM band, with another great singing drummer in Skip Prokop (he does a great job behind the traps on THE LIVE ADVENTURES OF MIKE BLOOMFIELD AND AL KOOPER, too!).

  • group still rocks! July 31st Barrie Ontario what a great night of enterainment

  • I've loved this song since it was current. They don't make 'em like this any more. What I've just recently noticed is the bass line. Holy crap.

  • @tattoofu I think alot of us listened to this music on pretty lousy prtable am sets back in the day - there are alot of undercurrents you only now hear with really good audio equipment. The 70's just never stop giving.......!

  • The twang of the guitar through to the section before horns was used as the start up music for (KSHE 95 (94.7) the news on St. Louis' first hard rock station.

  • @FClark11 Yes, I remember that. I thought they started using it in the mid '70s but don't recall. I used to enjoy the K-SHE kite flying contests. I remember seeing Kiss at one of them (not a Kiss fan, but it was free).

  • @FClark11 -REAL ROCK RADIO....Many imitators..many posers

  • @FClark11 Then the gal would come on saying K_S_H_E news, remember it well.

  • @nofortunatesonII Growing up with this has been great, listening to that every morning on the way to school

  • Fantastic. I need to dig out my vinyl copy, re-connect my turntable, and play this really loud. Great band, many many thanks. Damn, the singer sounds like BS&T's David Clayton Thomas, or vice-versa, and the horn section is totally stoked. This is wonderful stuff.

  • I remember listening to this band live when they toured the Maritimes in the 70's-mostly at High school gymnasiums. Made me want to play, and it worked!

  • lighthouse yes suziq1231 if you like techno my own music this song really rocks you could here it a million times i would like to fly see you on 107 in toronto lighthouse every sunday psychedelic sunday they play three from the album the stranger 1894 and one fine morning i have 2 of this same album on vinyl i heard they have some kind of greatest 30 year album on cd would love to know who has it in the buffalo ny area check out my 2 videos thanks if you like techno i call it techno space

  • Great tune. Love a great brass ensemble. Gives a break from the 4 guitars and an organ sound. Adds so much. Anybody remember a band from San Francisco with horns and a pretty blonde lead singer. Cant seem to remember their name.

  • @rover940

    cold blood?

  • CKLW...wow. talk about memories. spent a lot of summers in sarnia as a kid. used to listen to CKLW, WRIF and another station called wheels the call letters might have been WILZ. I remembe 'dick the bruiser' on WRIF.

  • 8 miles high,,Revolving.. in fall ,13 times,meaningful Lighthouse,,

  • @MrWildcountry - what does this post mean? I was in a 70s band called 8 Miles High

  • Comment removed

  • @stonyhil ,,Hello, The first Lighthouse album (RCA LSP-4173 from 1969) had a poem on the backside by Larry Green: " Revolving i fall Thirteen times...thirteen times one Meaningful lighthouse "", AND contained the hit "Eight Miles High. !!

  • This is such a great song, it really makes you feel good! I can hear this over and over again. Sure wish we had bands like this again.

  • Pop band? They were more in the style of Chicago, Chase, Blood Sweat and Tears

  • Every time I listen to this song, I can't help but think that these guys were Canada's answer to Blood Sweat and Tears.

  • I'm old enough to have seen these guys live several times...once in Quebec City....another at the Kee in Bala Ontario....they were incredible live!! Those horns would blow you into the back wall of the building...never forgot that!!!

  • St. Louis's KSHE played the hell out of this!

  • Wow...forgot about this one. Great brassy influences,. Canada's answer to Chase, Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears.

    Great song

  • Makes me feel alive.

  • this song was played alot in spokane, wa in 69

  • I remember flying down the country road in my VW Beetle with this song wide open on my 8-track player! It still gives me such a rush and makes me want to drive fast!!! Love it!!!

  • The good old days, loved this tune!

  • Awesome song! Thanks for posting.

  • This is so fabulous. That piano - wow. Those vocals. Where did they gooo!

  • Great song. It would be nice to record this song in uncompressed 24-bit/192k sampling rate 7.1-surround format and, perhaps, on the upcoming Blu-ray Profile 3.0 Audio format. In both cases, the sound quality will improve VASTLY!

  • In 2003 I saw Lighthouse perform at Classic Rock Weekend at Minnedose, MB. They can still rock, just like in the 70's - they were awesome.

  • Saw these guys in early 1970 in Lowell,MA...Great show. I remember being blown away by the sheer size of the band.

  • what a great f--kin song

  • Much more powerful than Chicago

  • @vegasshowgirlshoes ... I love this song but.....I don't think of it as a competition. Light house from Canada...Chicago from USA....obviously one had a great deal of success.

  • Yeah, love this, Hmmmm, July, 1971 I had just turned 14.....whew.....

  • theres some other song just llike this in some vid i saw

  • What a powerful sound kind of like Chase, thanks for posting. A GREAT video too great pictures!!!!!!!!
