So impressed with your 8 vaned VAWT, that I went out and got an 8 Ft. reel for my next project. I'm hoping to increase the size of the rotor a bit. I see you are using a 40 and a 41 teeth sprocket gear what is the size of your middle drive gear? Have you checked out Super Liberty 2 PMA at Missouri Wind and Solar, that's what I'm going to put on mine for 24 Volt DC output.
Thank you for the Info A J, very much appreciated. Look like a very interesting project, hope to give a try this summer. Looking forward to any future projects you may put out on Youtube.
I have been researching wind generator for the last two years. so far you seem to have the best idea for using metal drums to build VAWT. I just wondered where you were able to procure your round metal steet frame for the stator part to hold your vanes? Would you think it would be practical in a low wind area? Thank you keep up the good work.
@613solarwin The stator frame is an inner duct reel that is used by communications companies . I work for a communications company and have access to these reels that are considered scrap aftyer the inner duct has been bored in or trenched into the ground. Inner duct is used for installing fiber optic cable. They come in various sizes, these measure 8 feet by 4 feet., barrel is 3 feet which works out really well. Check with trenching and boring companies for these reals or at a salvage yard.
I am using standard ball bearings. There is a side thrust factor built into the bearings. I use 3 bearings to support the wieght of the rotor. The wieght of the rotor is divided by the total number of beaings. These bearings have been in for over 2 years .
