  • where can i get some of those speedrings?

  • Could i use white spirit instead of 99% isopropyl alcohol

  • is it possible to pop long board trucks on a regular skateboard ?

  • do you NEED to pop the sheilds?

  • What loaded board? And were those swiss 6's

  • @ExtremeHerps do not ever use wd 40 cuz it .... Well idk but it will slow your bearings down and will ruin them

  • @Sjanetsky1 thanks for the info :D

  • Could you use WD-40 instead of the lubricant?

  • great video, thanks! will give my wheels a new life :)

  • At 7:40 thanks for mentioned the spacers man. no one else does lol didn't know what to do with em

  • Hey nice vid, and i've got the "sector 9 black ball ceramic" bearings but they've basicly stopped spinning, will bones speed cream fix them or do i have to get a new set? thanks

  • Thank god for this video. i have gone through about 6 sets of bearings from any combination of the following:

    1. Soaking them in soap/water/laundry detergent completely rusting them

    2. leaving them in the bowl for 3 or so days

    3. soaking the bearing in lube

    4. prying off the back of the bearing and bending it on its way back in

    Thanks man, savin me money

  • hey man I don't have lube for my bearings a big problem or chillen like a villan? (great tutorial btw) much love brother

  • dude totes just bought my first board, got rush apec 5 bearings but the wheels are kinda loose, so i tightened them up but it stopped the wheels spinning freely what do i do?!?!

  • @myfishhasnosoul make a bonfire lol jokes

  • Oh sorry dude my bad =l I shouldve watch the rest of your vid, you do exactly what I do =P

  • They wont clean themselfs dude. You have to get some plyers or w.e. Theyre called and taped the dirt out of them and keep doing it to all of them till no dirt comes out after tapping it againts the bowl...

  • Are those bearing bone Swiss or rush

  • I was disassembling everything off my board and when I went to grab one if my bearings I had taken off, it basically fell apart and all seven ball bearings fell of from out if it... Please help!!

  • "put it back on and prey it off" a sure way to remove your truck threds....resulting in a 40mph+ skin scraping slide session!....use a screwdriver not your trucks!!

  • @wavecreatures Thanks for the comment, but take a physics class in high school before commenting on my videos. It wont strip the threads because the bearing doesn't move at all while prying it out.

p.s. also, take an English class while you're there, learn some grammar and sentence structure

  • @MichaelRoncoHornby Sorry but there is no need to insult me....over a period of time the camber/chamfered edge of the bearing is going to wear the thread out. Besides I'm an engineer. I was just making a polite suggestion, maybe a screwdriver is a better option than your truck. I really don't think there is any need to be condescending. Best Regards Phil Steadman

  • @wavecreatures -claps-

  • @MichaelRoncoHornby when hitting the bearing against the bottom of the bowl do you hit the side with the balls showing towards the bottom or hit the otheer side facing towards the bottom

  • do you have to use spacers? when i took my wheels off and took the bearings out there wasnt spacers

  • are those bones super swiss

  • @TylerMcGrew1303 yeah bones super swiss 6

  • sick sh*t man, thanks

  • @309503167 no problemo

  • @MichaelRoncoHornby Dam nices review. Thanks for the info.

  • @driaslow: hell yea man i just found hotsteeze too but its tight.

  • @stoozer12: well that's what its called on hotsteeze. com

  • your not supposed to let them sit, what you should do is shake the bowl/bottle and then that gets all the shit out

    good tutorial otherwise

  • This is the BEST tutorial! Thanks! Whoever put a thumbs down for this video is a dumb ***! You explain everything better than any other video i've seen!

  • @Curry952 Thanks! :)

  • so this is the first time im cleaning my longboard bearings. My rubber shileds were a pain in the ass to remove and i noticed that 2 or three of my bearing had rust on them. also a friend of mine had told me each time he came back from boarding, he would wash the outside of his bearing to prevent rust. would you recomend that this works? one more thing, i should clean bearing every 2-3 months, correct?

  • is rubing acoohol um hand saniertizer

  • i have the same bearings bones super swiss6

  • thanks

  • i love your pink wheels :D do you know the durometer of those?

  • you should proboly take out the plastic ball guide things because they will dry out and crack from the achohal after cleaning it many times.

  • @hadync they're made out of nylon, i've had the same bearings for about 2 1/2 years now, they still ride like they did right out of the package

  • @MichaelRoncoHornby hey michael is it possible to use longboard wheels on skateboards cuz ur wheels are epic! please respond. lol

  • @msybee it depends. These wheels are 70mm in diameter, you would get wheel bite if your trucks aren't big/wide enough

  • @MichaelRoncoHornby I have pig swiss bearings would they be fine in achohol or anything, thx for the tutorial

  • @SeedySudo yeah alcohol works on all bearings. And no problem!

  • do i have 2 lub it after

  • 8mm or 10mm spacer for my Otangs?

  • I thought that if you have bearing spacers, you can fully tighten the wheel and not have to worry about adjusting it?? I'm so confused, somebody help me please!

  • thumbs up if your riding abec 11

  • My skateboard fell in the water 0_0 one day later they were all rusted. Could this method work for me or do you have other advice?

  • Dude this is da best video:) other videos don't explain it as well but u explained very accurately

  • Do you remove the rubber covering from both sides or just one??

  • @xcrdb mine only have one rubber shield each. The other side you see in the video is just the cage

  • Great video man!

  • Wayyyyyyyyy back in the day I lost a few washers so now I have one on each wheel. I ride about an hour a day and will this affect anything on my board negatively?

  • @SnerkaSnerka no i use my truck with only one washer not the wheels and bearings can spin more freely that way

  • @carlosvg1986 I used to have those bearings (I just got the bones super Swiss sixs the other day) and on the back it is a little bit more indented. Hope my comment helped

  • what about using automotive bearing grease for lube?

  • how do you tell what is front and backside of the bearing? i have black bones swiss

  • use paint thiner. faster and better

  • Hey dude um can the same skateboard bearings go into a longboard?

  • you got attacked by a ababy street shark while you where riding...... or you just hit a side walk....

  • if i fuck up my bearings im going to see you in court. loljk...it is just that ive had a bad experience with putting bearings in my first time "i did something terribly wrong", now it is time to clean the ones i have

  • @mshadey45 I did but it didn't work well

  • can u use wd 40 for lubricent

  • i constantly do this, but theres something on my bearing, this kind of dark orange thing on it... please reply if u know what i mean o_O

  • does it matter if you have 50% isopropyl alcohol?

  • the little balls in my bearing broke into half with the acid is that normal?

  • your totally Canadian arnt you? :P you say out awesomely :P

  • where can you get 99% rubbing alchahol

  • uhm can you help me please?hahah my bearing balls fell out..and now i dont know how to put it back together.

  • i reccomend getting the orangatangs. the five dollars makes a difference.

  • this really helped.. thnx man

  • I dont have spacers in between my bearings why?

  • wow this sucks. the first time i ever see this vid is on 9/11/2010 and i see that it is 9:11 minutes long but whatever

  • Can you use tool lubricant on the bearings?

  • i got loaded jehu bearings and the shield is like irremovable. theres a metal washer on the inside of the bearing that i cant get out, and on the one broken bearing i have, the shield itself is too flush on the bearing walls to pry out. what do i do?????

  • Will thunder 145mm 7.75 trucks work for a 7.81 deck????? which will you recommend bones swiss 6 or the bones swiss labyrinth??

  • @TheMclovin781 about the trucks, 145mm trucks are really small, so I'm just assuming you're a skater not a longboarder. In this case, yes, they will fit. I'm not much of a skater, but I do know that having the trucks a little bit smaller than the board is better, and having larger trucks that stick out would be awkward.

As for the bearings, I'd recommend the swiss 6, but again, personal choice. The reason I'd go with swiss 6 is because the labyrinth shield doesn't do it's job very well

  • @MichaelRoncoHornby what if the bearings start squeaking when i ride, it sounds like a little rock is in the bearings idk am new to longboarding help me out here

  • "Uh oh. Don't lose these. They're annoying."

    ahahaha.

  • instead of leaving the bearings in the bowl can i just put it in a bottle and shake it

  • @thefreak809 That could work, I've just always done it this way and it works for me great, never had any problems.

I can see a few problems with the water bottle:

-it would be hard to get the bearings out one by one

-shaking the bearings together might damage them

-the dirt would swirl around inside after you finish shaking, getting back inside the bearings

Bones makes a bearing washer that eliminates those problems, if you want to check it out:

    bonesbearings(dot)com/support/cleaner/

  • same wheels as i got XD

  • Thank you Michael Roncho Hornby.

How much does that lube cost and what are some cheap alternatives to your lube?

  • @ThElitE You're welcome

That bottle of lube cost me $8. That's pretty cheap if you ask me, one bottle could last me a whole skate season

  • i lost one of my c rings is this a big deal or can i get away with not having 1 c ring

  • @xxfitzyxx20 I've never had bearings with c-rings, but I would assume they're pretty important, seeing a they keep the shield on. Hope this helps

  • Safety first kid? sorry I'm not a kid.

  • Probably THE BEST step to step guide on how to un assemble clean and re assemble skateboard bearings!!! Thanks man you answered every question that popped in my head!!

  • nice video. it helped a lot, i just got bones reds and i havent ever removed or done anything with my bearings so this helped a lot thanks

  • hehe, shark attack

  • doesn't soaking in rubbing alcohol rust them? i read on silverfish that it does and you should use something like kerosene to soak them to clean them and then the rubbing alcohol to remove the kerosene. then use the lube to lube it up.

  • @Fearlessnippz Well it will rust the bearings if you use alcohol with too much water. I use 99% alcohol so there's only a tiny bit of water, and I've never had any rusting issues. I recommend 99% but anything around 80-99% would work.

  • what if the shields arent removable?

  • ok i got shields on both sides so what do i do? and how do i clean them?

  • @11xXDANIXx11 well, if they are both rubber shields, then just take both of them off.

If they are metal shields, you might not be able to take them off. There are 2 kinds of metal shield bearings: crimped and c-ring. The C-ring bearings have a sealing ring around the rim that keeps the shield on, you just have to take out the ring out with a pin or knife.

If they're crimped, they will have little notches around the rim. You cant clean orre-lubricate these.

  • why dont use wd40? jw

  • @fsxdave24 wd40 causes more problems than it solves. It may seem like its working, but it can damage your bearings. All it does is push the dirt around but it never really gets rid of it. It does leave behind a light lubricating oil as it evaporates, but as long as there is still dirt inside, it will just end up turning to sludge in no time.

  • and water rusts the bearings

  • aboat!

  • hey my buddy has that deck. nice choice.

  • you dont actually need the shield, am i correct?

  • the only reason u use alcohol is because it evaporates alot quicker then water, am i correct?

  • @colinprprpr yes, alcohol also cleans a lot better than water. water just pushes dirt and grime around

  • hey i got the same bearings. when i cleaned mine and put on the shields

theres this rubbing sound when i spin it. the sound wasnt there when i spin the bearing without the shield. i thought it might be the shields rubbing against the bearings

do you get the same sound or is your bearing totally quiet?

  • @crapatguitar yeah mine are totally quiet. some things to check for:

make sure that the lip of the shield is in all the way around the bearing (meaning the little piece of rubber is tucked in)

check to see if you accidentally bent the shield when taking it off/ putting it back on. just put it on a flat surface, if it's bent, you'll know. be very gentle with them, if you have to bend it back, do it in very slight increments. overbending it will ruin it.

let me know what you find!

  • why is WD40 bad?

  • what dose it do?

  • Comment removed

  • Informative. Thanks!

  • you helped me so much! thanks alot! :D

  • Thanks for the video, I only needed the last half of putting the wheels on because i'm getting a new board and i have to install the wheels myself. And I had no clue how to, but now I do, thanx a but load. By the way, i'm getting a Hybrid Downhill Carbon & Fiber longboard.

  • thanks very helpful. all i was looking for was the installation part but i think that this will come in handy later.

  • shark attack!!!

    nice vid thanks

  • @KlausWilliams the concrete sharks are vicious this time of year.

    and you are very welcome

  • hey stupid question but does it matter which side the washers go on, like if I accidentally take them off and put them on upside down will anything bad happen?

  • @brandoncormac I'm not too sure what you mean. The washers are the same on both sides, so no it doesn't matter which way you put them on. If that answers your question?

  • @MichaelRoncoHornby yes thank you, also, how are your super swiss 6's holding up and how do you like them? i plan i getting them very soon

  • @brandoncormac I absolutely love them. I've had mine for about a year now, and they're still in great shape! As long as you take care of them, they should last you a long time, I think I can get another year or 2 out of these

  • @MichaelRoncoHornby yes my fellow black person, that does answer my question

  • @MichaelRoncoHornby i think he was talking about the bearing at 6:55 beacause i'm asking the same question if it's what he mean ?! so does it matter wich side ?!

  • @0corby i don't really know what you mean by this. if you're asking which way the bearing faces, the rubber shield on the bearing should always face out, and if there is shields on both sides then it doesn't matter. if you're talking about the spacer i put in at 7:35, it goes in the center, so it doesn't matter when you put it in as long as it goes in the center of the wheel at some point

  • @brandoncormac the rounded side you want touching the bearing!

  • thats very unsanitarry, putting bearings in the bowl

  • ur trucks look backwards lol

  • sweet thx dude good vid

  • where can i buy that 99% alcohol?

  • you can buy it anywhere... try shoppers drugmart

  • nice

  • Can you slide with those retros.?

  • I started out sliding on them. its really hard though cause they are very soft wheels, but once you get the hang of slides it gets easier. honestly though, get some slide wheels. i have O'tang stimulus, and they slide really nicely

  • wow, where'd u get ur speed cream, mine was about 5$

  • Methylated spirit, or surgical spirit are other names for isopropyl alcohol. It evaporates very quickly, compared to kerosene, If you havent got rid of all the solvent, your fresh lube will be much less effective.

  • I'm never eating soup out of a bowl at your house ever again.

  • 'If it doesn't, you've done something terribly wrong' hahahaha

  • Is there any other way to clean the bearings,

    i mean avoiding alcohol ?!

which kinda alcohol should i use ?

  • isopropyl alcohol aka rubbing alcohol. if you don't know what that is that'd be sad.

  • dude those wheels spin forEVERRRRRR

  • do you remove both shields from the bearings?

  • well, if you have 2 shields i guess you could if you want to

mine only have one shield each, and the other side is just the top of the cage

  • You should. The alcohol/cleaning solution can eat away the shields.

  • skate tool :p

  • i have some abec 5s with metal shields, can i get those off the bearing to clean them better?

  • im not too sure about metal shields

i only started to actually clean my bearings when i started buying the higher-end ones...

what i used to do with my old abec 5 bearings was put some bicycle teflon into the small space between the shield and the inner race (just a few drops of it) and then spin the bearing between my fingers. it cleans and lubricates, and i managed to make them last for a solid year and a half...

  • honestly tho, bones redz go for really cheap, and they have the rubber shield... i recommend bones over any abec rated bearing

  • Hmm what exactly do spacers do? I have Cell Swiss Ceramic Black V1 bearings and my frinds keep saying I should put spacers in but they ride perfect without them.

  • Can you clean bearings in gasoline/petrol. I heard you could.

  • never tried it, but i have heard of people doing that

look up on how to do it, and maybe try it out on some shitty bearings, just to see if it works

  • yeah i bought a half pint Bones RF and my board goes freaking fast now

  • yea it works just but some kerosine in a cup and swash the bearing around and then get them out and dry them thats what i do to mine works great

  • man i dont care about washing my bearings just because i have some bones reds i just pop the sheild off and set to skate and i leave the side wear the sheild was the outside of the wheel so when i ride most of the dirt well get of my bearings

  • u will have to eventually some grains will always make their way in.

  • well your right i only clean them once for each bearings i buy

  • can I use White Lithium Grease I was told that it was perfect for bearing maintenance?

  • that stuff is designed for bicycles and cars....

you should probably buy a bearing-specific lubricant....

when i first got into longboarding i had no idea about how to clean my bearings, so i used to just put a few drops of bicycle teflon in each one... it works, but i wouldn't recommend it based on experience

  • wow that seems complicated for someone who is new to longboards(me) great video very well explained

  • nice where can iget speed cr4eam? and like what the fudge does it do?

  • you can get speed cream at most skate shops

and speed cream is a bearing lubricant. it makes the bearings roll faster with less wear. it reduces the friction between the ball bearings and the inner/outer races. you can use any kind of bearing lubricant, it doesn't have to be speed cream, but speed cream works better than most of them, and a bottle is only around $8

  • hey i have a question, i left my bearings sit in the rubbing alcohol over night and it rusted. is that bad so that i have to change my bearings? if i don't need to does it affect my riding? (some people say rust on bearings makes the bearings faster, is that true?)

  • well, first off what kind of rubbing alcohol did you use? (99% > 70%) and second, how old are they? and when have they been cleaned/lubed last (if at all)?

cause the rust you saw could have just been all the built up rust and dirt inside the bearings... when i first tried cleaning my old bearings (that hadn't ever been cleaned in the 4-5 months i used them) they turned the water orange from all the rust... so if you get all the rust out by repeating the cleaning process, they should be fine

  • i used 91% alcohol. they are pretty new maybe about one and a half - two months old. i just cleaned/lubed them yesterday. (did it at night, left it in the alcohol until the morning, then i dried them.

  • and no... rust on the bearings is bad because it creates a ton of friction

  • Lol thats what happened to my pink zigzags. So i changed them to 4 presidents (80a) though i like the pink zigs better. Cause i just cruise now gonna try learn how to slide since i have em
