They did not use a winch to pull the car up. It went up under it's own power. The Audi 100 had the same device attached to it, and again wasn't used to pull the car up. I suggest reading articles from back then, and the more recent A6 test. Germancarfans dot com has the story.

I'm really really disapointed... in 1985 no help needed to the Audi 100 CS Quattro... now the A6 Quattro, they had to change the tires and used a winch!!! Vorsprung Durch Technik??? maybe yesterday!
