"techno" is a notoriously misused term, often applied to horrible music. Subjective interpretations of genre differ. But this is Detroit techno - it's a specific genre. Blake Baxter's nickname is "the Prince of Techno".
Influences - Detroit, Chicago, Europe - sure. Shari Vari (1981) cited as one of Detroit's earliest techno tracks, emerged from Italo-house; Clear by Cybotron (Juan Atkins), same year - Kraftwerk an influence.
However, genre is evolutionary, reflecting differences&development.
A defining track of classic Detroit techno at its height of brilliance (in my mind, around 1991-1993). So driving and industrial, but engagingly layered. Siren wails without cheese, that bass, subliminal funk. This is one of the tracks that turned me on to Detroit techno - I heard it on community radio in Adelaide while I was still really young - like nothing I had ever heard before. I was converted. It is timeless, & at the same time, captures that unforgettable momentum of the early 90s.
@freekency funny how some people call it techno, i call it house 80s old school, some of those 80s chicago dj's went to europe with sounds like this and hence we have italo house with chicago influnces and disco influences too
am i the only one that feels that the more time passes, the more shity songs / tracks are released? i'll choose this over some f*ckin lady gaga any day
