That's because Belleville is afraid of what they don't understand. Don't want anything new or creative here. Not just this club but so many things. They don't last here.
i love everythign about the bands and the enviroment about ITR and evrry venue area for this i go to shows all the time and love it,i wish ITR was open again,
This is a ZONING issue, ladies and gentlemen. The business was not licensed as a gathering place or music venue but as a recording facility. Anger at the city is misplaced. Direct it instead at the business owner(s) who gave their patrons' safety no consideration. Look up the Station nightclub fire or the E2 stampede sometime.
Zoning was not even part of the official reason given.
Nobody ever really got hurt at Illegal Tone. There were no drugs, no alchohol, no fights, nothing. It was safer than my high school. Just because you have one instance of a stampede in some night club does not mean that every music venue is doomed to violence.
This film itself is quite an accomplishment, and Mr. Birkner certainly deserves the recognition he's receiving. That being said, Mayor Eckert was in fact quoted as saying, "way too many people for the building." Occupancy issues are zoning issues in the city of Belleville. I would certainly encourage anyone who disagrees with the current ordinances to register as soon as he or she is eligible to vote and share that opposition with his or her aldermen.
Just because Mayor Eckert made that statement does not make it inherently true. The city ordinances he cited were not, as I recall, about occupancy limits; rather, they were about the nature of the business itself (which are bogus ordinances, in my opinion.) Furthermore,it is important to realize that as this issue is important to many people under the age of 18 (I am of voting age myself), simply threatening to vote out an alderman or voting to change an ordinance is not a possibility.
The station nightclub fire was caused by a bunch of drunk hair metal idiots with pyrotechnics and the E2 indecent occurred from drunk idiots in post 9/11 germ warfare panic. Next time dig up some examples of smoke/drink free DIY venues involving people being trampled to death, you'd probably have a better chance in a argument. Then again you made the account you are on for the sole purpose being anonymous and trash talking this video. so my hats off for you sir.
