  • Nice vid

  • you from texas?

  • No, I am from SC.

    Dave

  • @jaybobed

Know what's funny? My mother pronounces it as "Two-so", as we have had General Tso's Chicken recently.

  • @smokeythebear13 lol listen closely to his accent, it is indeed a southern carolinian accent. almost thought it was Texan though.

  • you were very entertaining to watch, I laughed the whole time... made me think of one of my ma's brothers... anyway looks good, thanks for posting

  • this video is fantastic. I'm glad I stumbled upon this one..I have a lot of jaybobed videos to catch up on.

    Thanks for the recipe.

  • Great Video Dave! We are going to try this recipe!

    Thats our type of cooking.

    Cheers from Australia!!!

  • this is the first time I've seen this made with no flour what so ever

  • OMG I cant believe how they gank us at the stores. DID you say chicken thighs are more expensive, then boneless skinless chicken breats????? LOL, the boneless skinless breats are most expensive here. Thighs are so cheap so so cheap here, they are about the cheapest we can get here. That is unreal how supply and demand works. WOW what an eye opener, right now chicken thighs local grocery store 1.19 per lb. NOt sure of breat price i will get it but its much much more.

  • Daaaaaaaaaamn!

  • you did it again!!!

  • I just made it and it was very good! Thanks Dave!

  • i just made this recipe. it was so good.

  • Dave,

Your recipe is the fifth I've made in so many weeks, and I have to say, it's the BEST. I appreciate the trial and error you've put into it. Keep up the great work.

    Chrome

  • I got a question, a lot of the recipes I've seen for this have, at one point, called for some hoisin sauce, now does your recipe just not call for it, or do you know of a substitute that can be made for it instead?

  • @plumbcrxy Yes, you are correct. the sauce I make in this video is Hoisin sauce.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Dave check out a video called "Jennifer 8. Lee: Who was General Tso? and other mysteries of". You can just search it in youtube search easy. Hope you are well. Thank you for the videos.

  • Lol, where's the MSG?

  • This recipe is similar to other recipes on youtube that I have seen. My problem with all of them is that when I go into a good chinese restaurant, the chicken is CRISPY...EVEN ON THE BUFFET... WE ARE MISSING SOMETHING HERE!!! WHAT ARE THEY DOING???? could it be they are using a different type of flour like rice flour? baking soda? ice water? double frying? I love your video's Dave, but we need to find out what they are doing to make their chicken nice and crispy, its really an important thing.

  • there are a lot of things to make the chicken crispy but the two big things are the flour and oil! the best oil to use when frying is peanut oil! the 3 best flours to use when frying is corn flour, self rasing flour, or all purpose flour that depends on you want texture you want, also you could put a little bit of milk in with the egg when coating the chicken, you could marinate the chicken in buttermilk, you could double coat the chicken dry, wet, dry

i hope that helps you with crispy chicken

  • @roger5845 try using bisquick instead of flour

  • Looks good..

  • Dave, you are a genius! Followed your recipe and directions exactly and darn it turned out awesome!

  • 11:50 to 12:50 is pure comedy! this guy should be a professional comedian. this meal sure looks good, too bad general tso is deep fat fried though. i'll have to try and healthify it some way.

  • not fried is just kung pow chicken basically

  • This is delicious! I made this but I tweaked it a bit. I used chili sauce instead of chili peppers and I used ground ginger because I do not like fresh or minced. It turned out wonderful! Tastes just like the Chinese restaurant my family went to when I was a child.

  • I just love your videos. do you have a video for alfredo?

  • I do have a couple of videos here with alfredo sauce!

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • @jaybobed im starting to as well, i just heard about this guy, and i like the way he walk you through all the steps, his a cool cook! from the south, south here too, so i understand erthing he says :) nice one!

  • Dave, Love your recipes and the Lodge Dutch Oven. Cooked the General Tso for family last week... well let's just say it's GONE! Also cooked your Chicken Hash with the fam on a camping trip...HUGE success. Keep the stuff coming. Would love to see some camping/outdoor dutch oven shows. Chuck from Opelika, Alabama

  • I saw the bowl you used to mix the eggs in,... I have the plates that MATCH the bowl you have ;-)

  • I like to top mines with a bit of some toasted sesame seeds....

thank U for sharing this beautiful recipe

  • ooh man that looks goood and i like it cause its all about the meat

  • how bout kung pao

  • yes i vote for the kung pau as well

  • I understand it is hot but can it be made with fewer red peppers?

  • The only thing that could make your videos better is a HQ or HD camera, but its still 5/5 stars even without a top of the line camera

  • heck yea this was GUUUUUD!!!!

    Thanks Dave :)

  • I tried this recipe. The sauce is pretty strong stuff. Maybe it needs to get kicked down a couple 10 notches. But other than that it was good.

  • lol.

  • Dave,

This looks really really good. My mom used to cook chili garlic chicken the same style as you did without the sauce.

I am wondering if you can add bell pepper at the end. I always like to eat some vegetables with the meat. Thanks

  • I'm going to try this tonight. I'll come back and post the results.

  • As a guy with hair to the bottom of his shoulder blades leave it long it fits your face better. Besides if your god didn't want you to have hair (s)he/it would have made us all cue balls >:) nice recipe.

  • You have been on for a while now and getting better. Except for the chili everything is great.

  • Two thumbs up. Looks bomb.

  • i stared at you eating my fav dish for a whole minute..... makin me hungry

good stuff, good vid, first vid i seen of you, good work

  • NO ITALIAN SEASONING???

Not that you need it, but you use it for everything, Its kinda unusual Dave! Cheers

  • dave your hair is long now!

  • General Tso's Chicken is the best. Thanks for the recipe Dave.

  • Dave, You need a haircut. The general tso's looks good though.

  • I like the longer hair

  • welcome back dude:) good job

  • Hey, looks great,,I love Chinese food!

If you get a recipe for the lo mein like the Chinese restaurant,,,please post. I've tried different recipes for it but none taste like the kind you get in the restaurant.

Thanks for posting the General Soul's chicken! :)

  • how big is that dutch oven?

  • I think the long hair looks classy Dave!

  • I think that would be good with beef of pork mmm im gonna try this soon

  • That looks so good! have you ever made Chicken Cordon Bleu its Good!

  • it looks very good i will for sure have to try it.. Dave i did not think i could find 15 bean mix here in our tore since im in a small town but i found them so im going to try your 15 been soup....SOON!

  • Who is General Tso?

  • Five Stars!!

  • Dave! o_o Your hair changed? XD I'm glad for new videos!

  • Hi Dave. I really like your videos and have been watching them since you started. I was curious if your recipes are 'trial and error' to find out what works for you or if you take an existing recipe and make adjustments to them to find out what you like? Just wondering what videos we can expect from you in the months ahead.

    Thanks Dave!

  • I would say a little of both. Some recipes are from my childhood and others are trial and error. I look them up online and then I cook the recipe and decide if it was good or could it be better? It took me about 10 times cooking General Tso's to get it where I thought it was the best I ever had! Future recipes.... I dont know? I am looking for ideas? Do you have any favorites you would like to see me cook?

    THanks,

    Dave

  • thanks for the quick response, Dave. How about beef stroganoff or maybe a good comfort food soup? Ive seen beef stroganoff made so many different ways and I'd like to see your twist on it.

Thanks again and keep up the good work, Dave!

  • OK, I can do beef stroganoff! I have some good soups on youtube! Check them out!

    THanks,

    DAve

  • Hi dave, i have seen so many vids on tacos, i was wondering maybe if you have your own way of doing them or do you do them the normal way..would love to see a video ....thanks..

  • Dave, I'd be interested in the temperature of oil in your recipes. "Medium" on your stove is likely not the same as "Medium" on mine. Maybe a thermometer that clips on the side of the cookware would let you give us a temperature. I've used your drop of water method before, but I think sometimes I get the oil too hot. Thanks.

  • Sure, I can gice you a temp! I always start frying at 325 to 350 degrees. After the food hits the oil it lowers the temp to around 275 or so. I lower my heat to medium high and I try to maintain the heat around 275. Any hotter for too long will burn your oil. When I am not frying, but sautee or cooking I use medium. Medium on my stove is simmer. So whatever makes your food simmer should be my medium.

    THanks,

    Dave

  • Dave's using cornstarch, which is very different to flour, it has very little "raw" taste so needs cooking for less time. I've used it often in Chinese recipes, and it works very well. (Dave this looks great as ever - thanks!)

  • oh MAN! That looks TSO GOOD!! Nice job Dave you do it all man!! I gotta try making this!

  • @PapaKenny777 he making me hungry!

  • The reason Dave is not on Food Network is because he cooks with inexpensive ingredients, in inexpensive cookware. Food Network is about selling stuff. Even so, keep submitting Dave to them for their next TV cook. We need another Justin Wilson.

  • Thanks man! I mostly do not understand why cooking has to be a speed and stress process? I think cooking should be fun and not hurried.

    Dave

  • Dave!! I wish you were on the Food Network...easy and simple recipes and you're cool as hell...

  • Fantastic Dave!! I LOVE chinese Chicken tso!!! Almond fried Chicken too!! Its great to see you becoming diversified in your kitchen!!!

  • Hey Dan,

Whats up man? Thanks for stopping by!!

    DAve

  • i made this with cooldevinis and it was awesome!

    we added broccoli too

  • im gunna try that this weekend you really are the greatest chef. and your videos are BAD TO THE BONE!

  • Hey Dave, i had another question i decided i will just cook it spicy, but the problem i have is i cant find red chili's like you had at wal-mart or any other store by me, i was wondering if i could just put chili powder? or if you had any other suggestions it would be appreciated, Thanks

  • SMyD77777 - Try looking in the ethnic foods aisle. Meijer stores have these dried chilies in the "Mexican" section of the ethnic aisle, packaged just as Dave shows. Good luck!

  • ya i looked everywhere and i asked one of the people that worked there and he said they don't carry dry chili's like that, so i just bought chili powder, thank you anyways, im just gonna put a dash in because it smells like its pretty spicy so i hope it works out.

  • mmmm...No, I would not use chili powder, chili powdeer has cumin in it (might make it taste like a taco? I would use some cayenne or something like that. Do not use too much or it will be very spicey. Maybe just a good pinch of cayenne powder for the entire dish! Let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Dave! Do you think you can make a Chicken and Waffle video? I could go for some. I know your a great cook so you'd make a badass dish :)

    Thanks,

    Charlie

  • thanks Dave everyone liked it and it was very good!

  • Very cool man!! I am glad it worked out!!

    THanks,

    Dave

  • This was awesome Dave and those peppers are damn hot!

  • Thanks Dave and good to see your fine videos again.

Interesting I see slightly different techniques between yourself and the Indian chef also on YT for General Tso's Chicken. Regardless, you both rock!

BTW, have you considered maybe also getting into narration (like stories)? I think you have a wonderful gift for that as well as for great cooking.

  • Thanks Phillb, Narration? You mean I should tell stories on youtube? OR That someone might pay me to tell stories? I think that would be cool, but I have no idea how to go about it?

    Dave

  • Yes, I mean that you have a cool storytelling style of conversation. Like I'm guessing that you could narrate for 'electronic books' or whatever. I'm sure also that younger people would love a great story told by yourself. Maybe an alternate career?

  • Hey Dave, always a big fan of your home-style cooking! Any chance you do BBQ?

  • Sure, I have a couple BBQ recipe here on youtube!

    THanks,

    Dave

  • man where the hell have you been?i had about given up on you

  • I have been on the fire escape and in the bathroom!

    THanks,

    Dave

  • Hi Dave, i have a question my family doesn't like spicy foods at all, and i was wondering if you can just not add the chili's and just add some sesame oil and put sesame seeds on it and make it sesame chicken?

    Thanks

  • Well, not really, it would still taste good, but it is not the same as sesame chicken. You should try it with less vhili peppers. I do not like hot food either. The rice seems to cut down on the spicy. Give it a try and you will love it.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Aww, You don't like hot food Dave. Almost the same here but I like hot food, too bad it hates me! BTW, I saw someone who looked a lot like you maybe sampling a Naga Jolokia chili on YT. Could that be the reason for the fire escape & bathroom excursions?

  • Thanks so much Dave!

  • good job Dave. I eat that all the time here where I live. China Chef in Onley va. Best I ever had. Nice work Dave as always..

  • I bet when you fried the green onions the house smelled really gooooooooooooooood. I like to eat this dish with snow peas or water chestnuts! It's an awesome chinese takeout dish.

  • out of curiosity, which chinese restaurant did you dine at while in Arizona? Was it in Phoenix?

  • no it was long ago when I was in the army in Sierra Vista AZ.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Greeting to Dave,

I pleased you for subtitle :S

you always do a great job Dave.

  • You gotta get the General Tso's. It's full of ideas.

  • what brand of soysauce do you use?

  • Laura lynn? It is the store brand.

    Dave

  • Can't wait until smells come through the internet.

  • i would kill for his voice

  • Thank you for this recipe!!! I miss General Tso's chicken. Chinese food in America is much better than Chinese here in Germany.

  • @Laynep123 Do you get General Tso's chicken in Germany? I have never seen it in the UK since it is created by chinese american immigrants. As a chinese person i really want to try it.

  • lil bit spicy? damn, must burn the hell, buddy!

  • gotta new hairstyle? lol :D

  • i keep on rewinding it cuz it looks so good and i want to eat it

  • I had done the same thing with Dave's jambalaya recipe as well as the General Tso's chicken recipe. YUM!

  • I went and made the jambalaya off the video he did it turned out crazy good everyone was suprised :) (I dont cook) Even people who said they normally dont like it liked it

  • THAT LOOKS SO GOOD!!! im hungry now

  • Dave/Kurt Cobane?

  • i knew somethng was different. IT's THE HAIR. sweet due jay. now it time to pick up some hot chicks lol. Great Video 5/5

  • Oh sweet, I wanted to know how to make this

  • Man, that looks tso good!

  • Nice, I will however be using more peppers. YESSS!! give it to me spicy.

  • Hey Dave,

The Ingredient list on the right says 2 cups of green onions, but it looks more like you put in 1/2 cup. I just want to make sure I'm making General Tso chicken and not General Tso green onions. I'd like to give it a try but I would like to make sure the measurements are correct.

    Cheers

  • The recipe calls for 2 cups. I used one bunch that you can buy from the store. I am using my LARGE dutch oven so it may look like less. I am using three pounds of chicken?

  • That's great Dave, thanks! I'm looking forward to trying this tonight. You do a great job with instructions. They're always easy to follow.

    Cheers,

  • Wonderful. I need to make this.

  • dave, you've outdone yourself again. you the man!

  • good stuff dave

    i love general tso

  • A good to die for.

I just wish i could find a substitution for the egg

  • YUM! Glad to see ya back Dave, always enjoy your cookin. Keep them coming daue!

  • ok so the holidays are around the corner and im getting my recipes started i know im an eraly bird!But... can you do a broccoli and cheese casserole i wanted to do one this year, but mine is so basic can you do one please!!

  • keep cookin Dave .. =)

  • looks amazing like always Dave.

If you want your chicken still crispy after you cook it, you should cook the sauce unil thickened in another pot and then pour the sauce over the chicken at the end :O

  • jaybob your using wayyyy to much corn starch man

  • looks great though

  • haha i like your "hungry" dances or "that stuff is good" dances :)

  • awesome dave, i have been trying to get the recipe for peanut butter chicken from my local Chinese place, they will not give it up lol, 5/5 dave

  • can you add Flour?

  • Corn Starch and flour are interchangeable. So if you don't know how to use corn starch DON'T. If you prefer flour do it.

    Also....

"How y'all doing? We've got some flavors to share"

    That line was amazing.

  • Awesome, a new Dave video!!! Looks delicious as always.

  • mmmm that looks goooooood. I am litterally licking the computer monitor. Thats my favorite chinese dish. I am fer sure gonna try it and throw one of your eggrolls along side of it. yum. BTW missed your videos, glad youre back.

  • awesome dish Dave!!

  • DAVE! where you been. your hair is getting long.. one step closer to look like renegade master! lollll. anyway, good to see you dishing out all the yummy recipes!!

  • This made me drool over my keyboard

  • goodness. is there anything you CAN'T cook, dave?

oh, and i showed this to my mom (she's chinese). she was very impressed at the way your dish turned out in the dutch oven, especially since she normally uses a wok for chinese food.

she said your pronunciation was pretty spot on, too :)

    Dave

    Gerald

  • I have been on the fire escape and in the bathroom! LOL I never go far. I have not seen Betty's kitchen. I will have to check it out!
