Australia is sneaky. Although they are not Asian, they join in AFC to qualify for the world cup. Also they send players to European clubs to brush up their skill thanks to a family connection although they are not talented compare to Japanese players. Not only football but also other sports, they try to close to East Asia, not neighbor Southeast Asia. Of course, they hope to play with Asian powerhouses like Japan, Korea and China. I hate they use Asia and Europe to improve, not by themselves.

Good job, Gamba Osaka! But Japanese goal is to qualify for the world cup. Australia will call European based players, so we shouldn't be glad to beat B class Australian players. Now Okada make a good Japanese national team which is similar to Argentine national team. We set small and speed attackers like Okubo, Tanaka, Tamada, etc and set big defenders like Nakazawa, Tulio, Terada, etc. Japan is Argentina in Asia!!!

naturalbornstoner , simple my friend. Australia is a small nation in population. As such, our wealthy minority (as we all have in all countries) are too few. They have EGO's the size of Australia's continent and they love CONTROL (we don't have enough wealthy to offset this imbalance, so we don't have the philanthropist - maybe 2). World Football is matured and controlled by people of the world. That clashes with their egos. Hence they want to promote their OWN sport, such as Aussie Rules.

So ... it is NOT even followed in most of Australia. BUT, the ego Wealthy want this sport to be THE SPORT because they have control over it.
