watching aaron play never gets old, i could watch these videos over and over for years, and whats amazing is that even though he left underoath and plays guitar and sings in the almost and does that church stuff he still plays drums, he's still rockin it and someday i'll meet him and have a drum play off with him. i do like the way daneil plays in underoath now, i liked aaron better but daneil is still a really good drummer and even though underoath is my fav band aaron is still my idol drummer
@RAWman26 im almost positive that it is a truth custom 8x14 gold brass snare w/ trick throw off with a remo emporer x on top, remo ambassador on the bottom, and puresound blasters snares. he usually uses remo on the snare, evans on everything else. a truth custom snare would cost an arm and a leg, but i put the same heads and snares on my birch 6.5x14 snare, and it has that heavenly crack.

@LTJMikey i think i play at a similar velocity to gillespie (being 6' 7" i naturally play loudly) and i've only ever cracked on cymbal after playing drums for about 4 years, and that was a shitty 16" zxt thing i think, if you break your cymbals you're obviously playing them wrong, i highly doubt aaron actually breaks his cymbals
and probably the main reason he does hit so hard is because he gets so involved in the music and just wants to let everything out

Aaron is one of the best drummers, he hits the drums hard as hell yet good as hell, he can sing and play guitar. He's practically a second Dave Grohl. o_o

@Bojangledrummer True, but you need to understand they also play different genres. By saying "a second Dave Grohl" I wasn't necessarily saying one are better than the other... its too hard to compare drummers especially ones from different genres. Lets just say they're both amazing. (=

And as far as Foo Fighters go, you have to like the genre. I personally have a wide variety as a drummer... I like to mix things up. But in my opinion and many others Foo Fighters are great.

@XXOAPTRAGEDY I do in fact like the genre. My tastes range from Drum'n'bass, to opera, to classical, to country, to anything but MOST new age rap. I was just never able to get into the Foo Fighters. I like some of their songs, just not them as a band if that makes any sense.

i beat the piss outve my drums as well, its a habit, its what ur feeling, adds so much to what ur playing, specially on accents and what not, but saying a drummer that hits too hard is bad or has no control? must take alotve control to keep the sticks even in ur hands when ur playing that fast and that hard lol

My dad hates the fact that I play so hard. But when I play, I play the style of music that the bands I listen to play. Like Underoath, TDWP, Attack Attack, ect. I can play softly if I wanted to. I just choose not to.

you shouldnt take your opinion and try to turn it into fact. music is all about energy. aaron gillespie makes up some of the sickest beats to some of underoaths music. and don't ever say he's bad because he hits drums so hard. that drives me up the wall. you keep playing at a controlled level. its an opinion. drummers are different. damn. piss me off.

Aaron Gillespie is great at drumming and he clearly loves what he does. he's filled with energy playing great music in front of loads of fans, i don't know how you wouldn't be pumped by it.

I'm a drummer as well, but I do not play that hard because I can't afford new heads, sticks and cymbals every time I drum.
I do play with good energy as well, but like I said, I'm not made of money and am lucky to have what I do.

@S0ulWrought No, I WOULDn't bash it that hard because I can't afford brand new cymbals for every damn show like he can, because he's probably sponsored my Meinl. I'm not a fan of people who bash their cymbals obnoxiously like that. I don't think they're getting the best sound out of the cymbals.

@LTJMikey i think i play at a similar velocity to gillespie (being 6' 7" i naturally play loudly) and i've only ever cracked on cymbal after playing drums for about 4 years, and that was a shitty 16" zxt thing i think, if you break your cymbals you're obviously playing them wrong, i highly doubt aaron actually breaks his cymbals
and probably the main reason he does hit so hard is because he gets so involved in the music and just wants to let everything out
