  • Move over, Robert Johnson - this woman can belt it out! She and Bessie Smith....

  • @498332 This woman, Sister Rosetta , has the Blues, I agree.

OK, Bessie Smith is one of my fav, but I don't upload, cause, she is too well known.*smile*

You have a good taste in music Brother !

    Peace !

  • I think she was one of the most important singer to bring over the combination of Gospel, Jazz and Rock-and-Roll!

  • @klikonojazz Thanks for the comment and listening. I agree, what you are saying. Sister Rosetta was/is the most important female Blues/Gospel singers. She even wrote her own songs.

You have a good point in what you are saying.

    Peace Brother !

  • Thanks Uwe !

Sister Rosetta Tharpe is to be trusted. She's almost forgotten, but I think she's one of the best female Gospel singers, despite we have Mahalia Jackson and other good ones.

My Greetings to Berlin and to you my Friend !

  • I used to listen to music like this when I was younger. We had an old radio station out of Sioux Rapids, Ia that broadcasted nothing but the old songs. Ever heard of "Unshacked"? Anyway, would love to hear more of the old gospel songs if you have them. Thank you!!

  • Stephanie,

Thank You very much for the comment and listening.

I try to do as the radio station you mention, broadcast old Blues and Gospel. I'm a collector and I got my Grandpas' when he passed away. Mostly Blues and Gospel 1902 - 1943 ! My fav era, when it comes to music.

You see, I'm a Swede, but I've always loved the music I present.

It's a privilige to present those great artists' music and I assure you, it's more to come !

    PEACE !

    Urban

  • Great music!

  • All I have is Great Music,

  • It amazes me that there are so many female artists out there and I have never heard of them.....but thanks to you I have now! =) Thanks for uploading!

  • You know Sandra, the very first to record were women, around 1920 and the men started to record around 1925, so I think it's appropriate to present some of the best Women !

Thanks for the comment and listening !

    Peace !

    Urban

  • Also a great sound Urban. We have the same kind of taste of music.

    Great brother.

    Rieks. (netherlands)

Old Good Songs never die !

You have a very good taste in music Brother.*smile*

    Urban

  • Oh man, GREAT track!

  • Thanks Mace.

Blues and Gospel goes hand in hand so, why not upload one of the best, Sister Rosetta.

    Peace Brother.

  • Hej! Urban, Another great track. old Sister Rosetta sure could sing and play. Seldom hear her acoustic - she seemed to prefer electric at the end, more noise and more fashionable, I guess. I saw one of her backing band/singers, Marie Knight, at Cognac Blues Passions Festival in France last year. She did a pretty good Gospel set with only keyboards behind her and her voice was still pretty strong. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks lain.

Ya, I know Sister Rosetta and Marie Knight did recordings together. Nowadays "old grand Ladies" and you have had the opportunity to listen to M Knight live. I envy you !

I know Sister Rosetta did a lot after 1943, but as I want my channel to be Pre-War influenced, I made the choice to upload this oldie.

Peace Brother in the North of Sweden !

I think originals often are the best, so I upload what I have of old blues & gospel.

Sorry to say, no harp in this one, but I have such too, but I refer to you !

    Peace Brother and Thanks !

    Urban

  • What a superb, tremendous and colossal posting. It has been soooo long since I heard this tune..I never knew who sang it but I remember hearing it as a very young boy...I had all but forgotten this gem until now...5 *'s and then some for you Urban my friend...Thanks for the memories!

  • I did this upload on request and I agree, it awake good memories, even to me as a swede, cause I heard it in my youth in swedish.( This one is much better !, garanteed )

Please, don't thank me, It's my pleasure to upload, so I send all stars to Sister Rosetta Tharpe in Heaven, BUT,

Thanks for your comment and listening.

    Urban

  • Sister Tharpe was an amazing woman, highly contradictory and bursting with energy. This recording was new to me, thanks so much for posting.

  • Thanks Glen for saying it's new to you, cause, I try to upload seldom played tunes or artists. But Sister Tharpe is always a good choice !

  • Thanks JT !

I love this one too, but it's easy to love something Good !

    Peace Brother !

  • Hey Urban!

Once again, you have exposed me to a new artist who I would have otherwise overlooked, so thank you. It is always amazing to hear the great women of the blues. I feel like they had to work even harder to make a buck in the industry, so the women who made a name for themselves had to be extra talented. Take care for now, and happy Easter, Ami, Israel.

  • Ami, you are so right about beeing a female and singing the Blues/Gospel, you had to be very talented, cause the Record Companies wanted to earn money !

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a very genuin singer and played her gospel songs in a way, nobody else did, so I think that's why she had a success and I'm very greatful for that, just as I am greatful to

    Your Comment and Listening !

    Peace Brother !

    Urban'

  • Great

  • Thanks Sinatra.

I do my best to keep the old Blues and Gospel alive. Sister Rosetta Tharpe is one of the best Gospel singer and it's my pleasure to present her !

    Urban

  • Wow, Sister R's version is great! I had Aubrey Ghent's sacred steel instrumental, which I love, on my page but unfortunately it got pulled. Thank you for easing my pain!

  • Thank You TC !

If I have easing your burden, makes me feel fine, but thank Sister Rosetta Tharpe for the song.

( No "Copyright-Hunters" out there, so we did it well, I think ! )

    Peace Brother !

    Urban

  • Well this tops off a wonderful Easter Brother Urban. God bless you and Sister Rosetta Nubin. She was from Cotton Plant, Arkansas and spent her youth, starting at age 4, traveling to tent revivals and singing with her evangelist preacher mother, Katie Nubin. You might say she cut her teeth on this music. She was another citizen of "deepcreek".

  • Good Music is to be shared.

Good Messages ae to be shared.

Good Information, as you give is to be shared, So :

    Thank You Very Much !

    Peace !

  • When it comes to Gospel, Sister Rosetta Tharpe is one of my favorite, cause she did it her own way and it all is aking to the Blues.
