Congress does have veto power over Bush with concerns of the budget and his spending. Bush can only spend what the democrat ruled congress will allow. Corn price raised because of ethanol, fuel made from corn. Price raised so there would not be a run on supply. It's simple economics.
The demand for oil today is triple what it now that China & others countries became oil dependent. OPEC is holding their reserve to drive up prices. What cost $40 a barrel now costs $129 a barrel. Also "futures traders" in the stock market have driven up the price on the trading floor hurting us at the pump. Saying "Global Warming is fake" doesn't disprove it.

Yes, it probably is time to lightly tap in to our own resources, reducing our own dependance, but can we not compromise at the same time and try to reduce our use as well? Does that really not make sense? Even if it takes a thousand years to run out, are we not still running out? Even if its only a small problem now - do we not owe it to subsequent generations to try to safegaurd their ability to power their future?
Sure. We could level the playing field to make sure that all sources of energy receive no subsidies. While I think a windfall tax is incredibly stupid (it would just discourage development and increase gas prices), the oil industry gets subsidies as well, which is bad, because it distorts the market. We could also lower the incredibly high penalties for installing nuclear reactors. Liberalizing zoning laws to allow for more windmills and solar panels too.

Here's the thing, elemental mercury is not harmful only a certain isotope is. I know you don't know what that means, but it is an important distinction.
Also I don't know where you get your info, but a lot of American companies make CFC's and LED's. And there is nothing preventing American light bulb companies to switch over to producing CFC's.
Further, CFC's are incredibly efficient and would create less mercury due to needing less electricity.

65% of gas price increase is due to INFLATION, and the rest is due to speculation.

What you say is partially true,but to get a bill before the Senate it takes two thirds to override a veto.The new GI bill was one good thing passed.You are correct about the wothless dollar.I don't think the Dems are responsible for that with the exception that they have the power to stop the Iraq war and refuse to cut off funds during an election year.The problems are with the borrow and spend republicans and our now 9 trillion dollar debt.China practically owns us now.

Congress does have veto power over Bush with concerns of the budget and his spending. Bush can only spend what the democrat ruled congress will allow. The United States Constitution requires a supermajority of two-thirds of both houses of Congress to propose a constitutional amendment. Also to move to a vote through a cloture motion or overturn a presidential veto. keep in mind I am not a Bush supporter in regard to spending in Washington. But the Dems have failed equally if not entirely.

Corn price raised because of ethanol, fuel made from corn. Price raised so there would not be a run on supply. It's simple economics.
The demand for oil today is triple what it now that China & others countries became oil dependent. OPEC is holding their reserve to drive up prices. What cost $40 a barrel now costs $129 a barrel. Also "futures traders" in the stock market have driven up the price on the trading floor hurting us at the pump. Saying "Global Warming is fake" doesn't disprove it.

Yes, it probably is time to lightly tap in to our own resources, reducing our own dependance, but can we not compromise at the same time and try to reduce our use as well? Does that really not make sense? Even if it takes a thousand years to run out, are we not still running out? Even if its only a small problem now - do we not owe it to subsequent generations to try to safegaurd their ability to power their future?

Sure. We could level the playing field to make sure that all sources of energy receive no subsidies. While I think a windfall tax is incredibly stupid (it would just discourage development and increase gas prices), the oil industry gets subsidies as well, which is bad, because it distorts the market. We could also lower the incredibly high penalties for installing nuclear reactors. Liberalizing zoning laws to allow for more windmills and solar panels too.

Global temperatures have fallen over the past decade, and even the UN global warming panel has admitted temperatures are going to fall further over the next decade. The ice always melts in the summer, so the media has cherry-picked dramatic photographs to whip the public into a frenzy. It's not unusual for polar bears to hang out on icebergs. It's been happening ever summer for centuries.
However, ice measurements in the South Pole have indicated that the ice sheet is thickening.
Also, these same reports on the "North Pole" have included pictures of PENGUINS. They don't live up north. So obviously the footage is doctored up by uneducated journalists.
