I'm actually using video editing software that is primarily used for screen captures, basically it records your screen, called Camtasia. I use it here and there and have found it works really well for editing regular videos too.
MP4 format.
It doesn't have any overly advanced features or anything like that, but it gets the job done. It is pricey however and there's plenty of alternatives in the market. Just do a simple Google search and I'm sure some great contenders will pop up :-)

I had an issue which may be similar to yours where I'd upload the video but there was an error every single time.
I found out that I had the frame rate in my video editing program set to 30FPS and by switching it to Automatic, it fixed the problem.
