This is slightly slower than what it can do with a better driver. There is no standard "power" gear. Your Maxima does 100 in 3rd because it has very tall gears, and a high final drive; aimed toward fuel efficiency. You can probably cruise at 80 @ 2500 rpms, while in the WRX at 80 you'd be at somewhere in the mid-high 3000 rpms. It's usually better to have shorter gears.

After going catless uppipe, downpipe, and a nice solid tune (20psi peak) it was noticeably faster. Those upgrades cost me less than $300 buying used & road tuning with open source.
@poetikplaya: I used to be friends with a guy with a 04 WRX STI. His car made 350hp at all 4 wheels according to him. I honestly don't think it made that much but more like 300hp. Either way I'd drive one.
The STI is substantially stronger in every way. The WRX makes less than 200whp in stock form. After my simple bolt on mods and tune I was probably slightly faster or just as fast as a stock STI. A lot of the guys around town had 300whp+ STI's.
I don't own this car anymore. I sold it a long time ago. I drive a Camry now.
The WRX and WRX STI's are pretty cheap now so pick one up and good luck. If you haven't already heard, check out nasioc.com for Subarus.

td04 (the turbo on a stock wrx) is small and will give you the least lag possible. go any bigger and you wait even longer for spool up. get uppipe/downpipe/catback/ and a good tune. that's the best you'll get if you want instantaneous spool.

@poetikplaya You hit 60 in around 7 seconds (from 5 to 12 seconds in your clip). And your 0-62 time (100km/h) is around 7.5 seconds. If you launch it properly you can get it in the high 6s. You'll need an STi or Evo with 40 odd more kws to get it under 6. I've owned one for 3 years and I've hit the drag strip many times.

Sadly, that's not true. The newest STi is listed at 305 hp, so that's at the crank. Subaru (or any other manufacturer) doesn't dyno test their cars and list the whp, the crank hp is a bigger number and therefore a better selling point. They probably still turn out 265 or so, and that's not bad, but no Subaru puts out 300+ hp from the factory (sans Cosworth).
All manufacturers list crank hp because it's more consistent. There are too many factors involved with the use of a dyno because all dynos are different. Mustang vs Dynojet, 3rd gear vs 4th gear pull etc...most importantly, drivetrain loss.
265 would be a high reading dyno. I've heard of 220-240.

with a 6speed cl-s, you'd easily beat a stock wrx. my AV6-6 right i have now is just as quick, if not quicker than my old wrx in this video. the av6-6 and cls-6 is pretty close in performance with the exception of the lsd.
but my av6-6 (nor any bolt on cl-s) wouldn't stand a chance against the simple bolt ons i had on my wrx (after this video took place). it takes a supercharger to even touch low 13's in any j-series motor.
crappy mileage - I have an 04 wrx wagon- taking it easy- 22-23mpg around town, 28-29 mpg highway.( shifting at 25-2800 rpm). I get around 19 mpg around town running 30-35% e85 mixed w/ 93 octane premium and pushing it a little harder (shifting at 4000-4500 rpm) these cars can get good mileage if handled gently.
Well, you don't buy scooby if you're worried about fuel economy. You'd get Skoda 1.6 diesel instad. :)
One question. I can hear whining noise when you shift to 2nd gear, just like 1st was slowing down after pressing clutch pedal. Does it also make some grinding noise when you're in 1st or 2nd gear and take your foot off the accelerator? Mine does it, it doesn't sound to well to me but garage says it's normal and since it's my first scoob I'm not really sure.

Sadly, that's not true. The newest STi is listed at 305 hp, so that's at the crank. Subaru (or any other manufacturer) doesn't dyno test their cars and list the whp, the crank hp is a bigger number and therefore a better selling point. They probably still turn out 265 or so, and that's not bad, but no Subaru puts out 300+ hp from the factory (sans Cosworth).

All manufacturers list crank hp because it's more consistent. There are too many factors involved with the use of a dyno because all dynos are different. Mustang vs Dynojet, 3rd gear vs 4th gear pull etc...most importantly, drivetrain loss.
265 would be a high reading dyno. I've heard of 220-240.

with a 6speed cl-s, you'd easily beat a stock wrx. my AV6-6 right i have now is just as quick, if not quicker than my old wrx in this video. the av6-6 and cls-6 is pretty close in performance with the exception of the lsd.
but my av6-6 (nor any bolt on cl-s) wouldn't stand a chance against the simple bolt ons i had on my wrx (after this video took place). it takes a supercharger to even touch low 13's in any j-series motor.
but yeah, tl/cl-s, av6-6 are awesome stock cars.

crappy mileage - I have an 04 wrx wagon- taking it easy- 22-23mpg around town, 28-29 mpg highway.( shifting at 25-2800 rpm). I get around 19 mpg around town running 30-35% e85 mixed w/ 93 octane premium and pushing it a little harder (shifting at 4000-4500 rpm) these cars can get good mileage if handled gently.

One question. I can hear whining noise when you shift to 2nd gear, just like 1st was slowing down after pressing clutch pedal. Does it also make some grinding noise when you're in 1st or 2nd gear and take your foot off the accelerator? Mine does it, it doesn't sound to well to me but garage says it's normal and since it's my first scoob I'm not really sure.

jdm v.7 and v.8 - hell almost ALL jdm sti motors have valve lift technology AKA vtec/vvti/disi/etc etc etc...lifting the valves and a opening of butterflies is OLD technology. honda just uses as a trademark in their name to attract fanboys.
and it's a "boxer" motor which is just a slang term, not an actual term, same goes for "flat", it's horizontally opposed.
