Everyone makes mistakes. Maybe Nastia and Shawn did get gold and Alicia got silver, but at least she made it all the way to the Olympics. I do believe she tried her hardest out there and gave it her all, but she is only one person and a human. She is still a great gymnast. At least they still got second place. We can't keep blaming her for everything that went wrong that happened almost 4 years ago. We got to just live with the fact that that what happened happened and move on.
She choked, it happens to many athletes in big pressure situations. It's what seperates the champions from every one else. She is a very capable gymnist who did not react well when the pressure was the highest. She felt terrible, she felt she let her team and country down and she did. It sounds cold but those are the facts. Clutch athletes love the pressure situation chockers just want to get them over with and are overwhelmed.
@gymnastagirl141009 I don't see a video titled "Bad day" on either of them. They rose to the pressure throughout these games that's why they both have gold metals and Alicia has silver. Of course it wasn't 100% her fault but as team captain and one of the leaders on the team she didn't perform and was by far the biggest reason the US didn't win gold.
@4890022 sorry, yes it was a little annoying that she cried after every single thing but I'm sure that you are only a provincial level athlete or maybe national. However if you went to the Olympics with all those people watching and the weight of America on your shoulders I would break down crying after I fell to.
And Nastia would have competed in 2004 but she was 10 months shy of the "age limit"...which had her training for another 4 years & although puberty didn't get her, she had a ankle injury that required surgery that set her back nearly a year, then she went back in the gym too soon (of course), all because the US abides the age limit imposed on their Olympic gymnasts.

Even withouth the falls US had no chance against China, Team US had to be perfect and needed the chinese team to falter, but neither of those things happened, so it's not her fault.

The Chinese were consistent, but they didn't play fair because they cheated on the age limit. The fact the youngest won & the oldest fell the most is due to the facts that 1) gym. is a strength to weight ratio sport 2) repetitive type injuries/puberty are the things that end most careers @ that level.... and 3)both are due to age.
Alicia is my fav gymnast jut because she has come through so much first sydney 2000 olympics then 2008 beijing she doesn't deserve it everyone makes mistakes and i feel so sorry for her that it happened at that time!!! It's not about anorexia at all . It's about too many young American girls brought up eating constant junk food and getting fat without even realizing why and without any understanding of proper nutrition in our junk food society.
skinny girls and fat girls are both unhealthy. It's the fact that in US elementary schools young people are improperly fed good food. This country has an obesity overweight problem . And it's not just fat, it's processed fake 'food' which also makes their eye's have too many dark circles and oil collects around their nose and eyes thus hurting their natural beauty.

i love alicia. she needs more credit and supprot. everyone has bad days. and under that amount of pressure, she shouldnt be held cabable of anything. she is wonderful as a person and a gymnast and she should try to get to the next olympics to provethe immense cabability she has. however, at age 24, it will be hard.

She blamed the delay, blamed the underage chinese gymnasts, blamed the chinese coaches making weird noises during her routines, blamed the pressure of the media, blamed liukin and johnson for not making the beam final (because of the 2 per country rule). that's why the train hours and hours a day for months and months, so that when it really counts you DON"T CHOKE!! there's no excuse. the Trainers were very upset, but of course they have to say the political correct thing, hence not blaming her, but deep down they knew she fucked up.

Alicia was a little crybaby. So yes, i got sick of her crying only for attention. She thought she was all that. But she only proved what a loser she was. Me and all my friends think that she is the worst gymnast of all time. I hope she feels like chit for years to come!! So she can feel like i felt when she cost our country the gold medal.
She won silver at the Olympics, she has been the second best vaulter in the world for three years behind Cheng Fei, she has been World Champion on the floor. She did the beam in the Team because others were injured, even without a fall her score wouldn't have been anywhere near Shawn or Nastia who are top beam workers.
And I read that she is has got into an Ivy League University, she has achieved more in her life than most. Notice Shawn's Chinese coach was kind to her and Shawn has class too.
It is unfair to rank Alicia before Hong sisters on VT. Alicia's FX and BB A scores are no lower than Nastia. She deserves one spot in the BB finals. It is a shame to call Nasty a top beam worker. It is also a shame to see so many snobs after Alicia's falls.
Cheng Fei has been the top vaulter in the world since 2005, Alicia is normally in silver medal position, that is a fact.
Alicia couldn't have got in to the beam finals because only two from each country can qualify, Nastia and Shawn had the highest scores, that is also a fact, just as Alicia blew her chance for the floor final in the qualification. She is a fine gymnast too.
Get over yourself. You're not the one who put 12 years into training for that. Of course she feels bad! She was crying for attention? Maybe she was dissapointed in herself and felt like she let them team down. Every gymnast has their bad days. Just because she had a bad day doesn't mean she's the worst gymnast of all time. She's a senior elite gymnast for crying out loud, only 1% of gymnasts make it that far. Have a little empathy and stop being so selfish.

Alicia rocks!!! All of those young ladies did their absolute best. No one is perfect. I feel for her b/c she really beat herself up afterwards. She wasn't the only one who made a mistake. I love her heart and passion. I just wanted to give her a hug when she missed the mount on beam. I know they wanted the Gold. Heck, who wouldn't? I am just glad they got the Silver b/c it could have really unravelled but these ladies are a class act and kept it together. Rock on USA Women 2008! Love you!

Actually, Marta was more of a hinderance then help. She acted like a team coach, rather then the team coordinator. Sean Johnson coach, was supposed to be the head coach. I think he would have been more of a calming presence for the girls. I hope that USA Gymnastics find another female to work the floor in London. Marta's ex-communist system of gymnastics is outdated. I didnt see Marta add anything to the women's team.

Sorry, i will not gain my sympathy. First, i have yet to see her cry for costing America our gold medal. Second, she has yet to apologize to the nation for her screw-ups. She really destroyed any happiness i was going to have for the Olympics.
Very disappointed in her performance i expected her to deliver. I do believe she was nervouse and the realization that she was at the olympic games.....she could not focus. I do believe her attitude stuck as the captan of the team...her coaches should not be motivating her to suck it up and focus on the next event..she should be prepared to do that no matter what...no matter what....you are trained for disappointments..gather youself and save the team not your self !

I agree, she was too busy trying to get her mug on tv. Look at Shawn and Luikin, they went into solitude before their routine. Well Alicia, congratulations, you got you face on tv, or should i say tears.
She did the best she could. She trained hard and was prepared. The best make mistakes. It was unfortunate it happened this day but great athletes have made mistakes in key meets in the past and will so in the future.
Anyone who blames Alicia for Team USA losing team gold is a cynical idiot. Even if you were to take the highest beam and floor scores she's ever gotten under the new Code of Points, Team USA would have simply lost by a smaller margin instead of a huge one. So pretend she had really high scores, and consider China's difficulty factor and how they went into the competition 2 points ahead of us, the Chinese would have had to fuck up royally, more than once, for us to have taken team gold.
She may have messed up but she showed true leadership by making no excuses and taking blame. We are still proud of you Alicia! When watching on TV I wish I could have told her to smile, even fake it. Years from now she will see the pictures and all have her sad face. It will bring back sad memories for her. :(
Alicia is very gorgeous, Everyone here in Boston is very proud of her. When she came home to her welcome home parade in Manchester (only 8 miles away from Boston) Got to met her, she is very nice and a good person. Makes me proud to be an Italian American. the majority of americans can not do a perfect cartwheel yet anything these gymnasts do. I know pretty much no one commenting here can do what she can do so any one who is ridiculing alicia can go to hell seeing you can not do what she can and your jsut jealous.

Alicia was a little crybaby. So yes, i got sick of her crying only for attention. She thought she was all that. But she only proved what a loser she was. Me and all my friends think that she is the worst gymnast of all time. I hope she feels like chit for years to come!! So she can feel like i felt when she cost our country the gold medal.

She won silver at the Olympics, she has been the second best vaulter in the world for three years behind Cheng Fei, she has been World Champion on the floor. She did the beam in the Team because others were injured, even without a fall her score wouldn't have been anywhere near Shawn or Nastia who are top beam workers.
And I read that she is has got into an Ivy League University, she has achieved more in her life than most. Notice Shawn's Chinese coach was kind to her and Shawn has class too.

It is unfair to rank Alicia before Hong sisters on VT. Alicia's FX and BB A scores are no lower than Nastia. She deserves one spot in the BB finals. It is a shame to call Nasty a top beam worker. It is also a shame to see so many snobs after Alicia's falls.

Cheng Fei has been the top vaulter in the world since 2005, Alicia is normally in silver medal position, that is a fact.
Alicia couldn't have got in to the beam finals because only two from each country can qualify, Nastia and Shawn had the highest scores, that is also a fact, just as Alicia blew her chance for the floor final in the qualification. She is a fine gymnast too.

Get over yourself. You're not the one who put 12 years into training for that. Of course she feels bad! She was crying for attention? Maybe she was dissapointed in herself and felt like she let them team down. Every gymnast has their bad days. Just because she had a bad day doesn't mean she's the worst gymnast of all time. She's a senior elite gymnast for crying out loud, only 1% of gymnasts make it that far. Have a little empathy and stop being so selfish.

It is not her fault, first off, she is one of the best in the world, what are you. Yes she made mistakes, but so did every one else, if you would know anything about gymnastics, you would know that even if she did her best every with no mistakes, USA would still have gotten silver, she didnt make that many mistakes, also they wouldnt have gotten silver without her, so, no i believe you are by yourself on that one

bottom line is alicia made the Olympic Team, and maybe it did not go the way she hoped, but that in itself is a amazing accomplishment. everyone makes mistakes, and no one is perfect

Alicia rocks!!! All of those young ladies did their absolute best. No one is perfect. I feel for her b/c she really beat herself up afterwards. She wasn't the only one who made a mistake. I love her heart and passion. I just wanted to give her a hug when she missed the mount on beam. I know they wanted the Gold. Heck, who wouldn't? I am just glad they got the Silver b/c it could have really unravelled but these ladies are a class act and kept it together. Rock on USA Women 2008! Love you!

Actually, Marta was more of a hinderance then help. She acted like a team coach, rather then the team coordinator. Sean Johnson coach, was supposed to be the head coach. I think he would have been more of a calming presence for the girls. I hope that USA Gymnastics find another female to work the floor in London. Marta's ex-communist system of gymnastics is outdated. I didnt see Marta add anything to the women's team.

i don't see why everyone is so angry with her. it wasn't her fault and she didn't decide to fall. it could have happened to anyone from any country. say if it was nastia liukin.. you wouldn't be bagging her if she cost the usa team a gold medal only because she won the individual all-around. alicia is an amazing gymnast and is better than all of you. who knows, she may be back in 2012.

Sorry, i will not gain my sympathy. First, i have yet to see her cry for costing America our gold medal. Second, she has yet to apologize to the nation for her screw-ups. She really destroyed any happiness i was going to have for the Olympics.

Very disappointed in her performance i expected her to deliver. I do believe she was nervouse and the realization that she was at the olympic games.....she could not focus. I do believe her attitude stuck as the captan of the team...her coaches should not be motivating her to suck it up and focus on the next event..she should be prepared to do that no matter what...no matter what....you are trained for disappointments..gather youself and save the team not your self !

dude that chinese girls first vault was 16. something... its pretty hard for women to get 16+ unless its ultra hard, that was actually a vault men were supposed to do (mens moves are harder)

She did the best she could. She trained hard and was prepared. The best make mistakes. It was unfortunate it happened this day but great athletes have made mistakes in key meets in the past and will so in the future.

Anyone who blames Alicia for Team USA losing team gold is a cynical idiot. Even if you were to take the highest beam and floor scores she's ever gotten under the new Code of Points, Team USA would have simply lost by a smaller margin instead of a huge one. So pretend she had really high scores, and consider China's difficulty factor and how they went into the competition 2 points ahead of us, the Chinese would have had to fuck up royally, more than once, for us to have taken team gold.

She may have messed up but she showed true leadership by making no excuses and taking blame. We are still proud of you Alicia! When watching on TV I wish I could have told her to smile, even fake it. Years from now she will see the pictures and all have her sad face. It will bring back sad memories for her. :(

When she came home to her welcome home parade in Manchester (only 8 miles away from Boston) Got to met her, she is very nice and a good person. Makes me proud to be an Italian American.
