This is a great song to learn as a beginner. It's mostly only 2 chords. E and C. Both are fundamental chords you will learn your first day as a guitar player. Give it a shot! It's easier than you think. Thank you and everyone for your kind compliments to this video :D

Most of NMH's songs are great for for beginners, I think. Engine? G, A, C. Communist Daughter? C, G, D, C.

It goes on. A great and impressive repertoire for any player to know, let alone someone who is just beginning. It's well worth the time and (minimal) effort to learn a lot of these songs. You don't need to be a walking encyclopedia of chords to be a fantastic player...Jeff and yourself are great examples.

Oh, and not to forget his style of writing songs...many NMH songs lack bridges or choruses per se, some of Jeff's greatest songs are simply verses. Engine is the prime example, as is April 8th . (First NMH I learned myself) This means for all of you aspiring singers, you don't have to worry so much about key changes or remembering various melodies, that usually accompany verse/bridge/chorus songs...be able to sing the melody to the first verse of Engine, and you know the whole song.
