~~~~*~*~*GRANDPARENTS & PARENTS do you want your children NOT TO BENEFIT from MEDICARE? REPUBLICAN PAUL RYAN HAS MADE IT HIS LIFE'S MISSION TO TAKE MEDICARE AWAY & REPLACE IT WITH A VOUCHER SYSTEM. TWO TRILLION dollars in REVENUE has been lost in the last 10 yrs because of the BUSH TAX CUTS..................................................................... He wants your children to pay for that lost revenue by DENYING THEM MEDICARE!!
~~^Hey Republican PAUL RYAN...Remember the scene in ANIMAL HOUSE where OTTER says to FLOUNDER, "Y ou f____ed up....You trusted us!"Well you are FLOUNDER and OTTER represents your institutionalized GOP buddies. When your plan to DESTROY MEDICARE(class warfare) runs it's course & your GOP buddies admit it was always a bad idea, ..YOU, PAULIE, will be made to take the fall. So take my advise. Stash your CORPORATE DONATIONS. Accept one of those lucrative lobbying jobs & "start drinking heavily."
I wonder if Cenk has any clue that ObamaCare strips billions from Medicare & Medicaid. You'd think he'd have a problem with that. Oh wait,..... that was done by Democrats, so that makes it "ok". Trying to make adjustments to Medicare to help it survive longer & allow our kids & grandkids enjoy this entitlement is only a "sin" when it's done by Republicans, I guess. That must be why I haven't seen any ads with someone pushing a crib off the cliff while talking about Medicare changes.
One thing you didn't emphasize is that they said "You Know the Math" you know why? Because Medicare is BANKRUPT. Ron Paul has know this for years that's why he's been saying these things for years. Wake up CENK!
@DeepRootsFilms The reason why medicare is because (1) the excess Medicare payroll taxes from times past were never banked and (2) health care costs were allowed to skyrocket out of control due to a lack of single payer health care.
I realized when I was 16 that I was going to get screwed on Medicare and Social Security. Will I see some of that money? Sure. Thank God I moved to a country where I pay 40% in taxes but higher education, social security, and health care actually work.
People and governments really need to plan better.
@leptonsoup337 DId you move to Canada? or somewhere in Europe? THese stupid republicans don't understand reality or logic and I might just move to Canada. Much mellower place, not so many monkeys running around trying to kill and rob you, and there are right-wing idiots, but they believe in natl health care at least for the time being.
ya know i used to think of bill clinton as a role model of sorts but i guess like all politicians are out and out liars, i personally think the only men that were true died last year Teddy Kennedy and Robert C. Bird.
@toxi87 Slick WIllie's into all sorts of real estate development, and his wife Hitlery, is into bringing oil drilling to the north pole. They're as dirty as dirty gets, and they've been fully corrupted. Then again, once you get to those nosebleed heights, it prob happens to everyone.
Lady Lordess wish you could grease Paul Ryan' forehead. I think Paul Ryan wishes he were in the Village People or the wehrmacht, with that stupid Opie haircut of his. Douchebag's just made a national ass of himself.
Start cutting by pulling out of foreign wars, and a third of overseas bases, meaning end Repug govt welfare for warmongers and mercs. That should do just fine. How about we cut police so that gangbangers can move into Virginia and SImi Valley?
@TheRealCritique How silly. Jobs numbers and Housing are miserable, nothing to brag about and certainly nothing that earns bho a second term. There is no consumer confidence. There certainly isn't any confidence from businesses under this administration. Jobs will not return until after Obama loses the election in 2012.
It's amazing we're not more screwed than we already are. The Dems talk a good game about caring for a strong middle class and then only a few actually come through on attempting to show it and the repubs gave up even trying to act like they care about the middle class at all.
Actually Bill Clinton didn't agree with Paul Ryan in the video, so I don't understand Cenk's claim. He seemed distracted and simply didn't say much to Paul Ryan's assertion that "something must be done"
Why no mention of Vermount passing Single-Payer Healthcare plan? One would think that news like this would be making a splash in both the universal health care and the state rights camps of the US political spectrum.
Doesn't TYT like the idea of americans having single payer healthcare? Why no stories what so ever on it? Half TYT stories are GOP bashing, the other half is split up between bashing red states, odd news events and super genious nazi dogs.
I like how everyone has a short term memory when it comes to Bill Clinton. Clinton cut a shit load of people off of welfare. Clinton was never a tax and spend liberal that people think he was. He shut down Kelly AFB here in San Antonio despite how many people it employed. Clinton was a Democrat that had no problem forcing people to get work.
@MusaJames Dont forget the 80km Super Collider that was 90% complete in Texas. Not saying that was Clinton alone, it was a victim of politics, still, it was Clinton that did it.
@Fitzcard I forgot about that one. Clinton wasn't alone but he would cut anything that he thought was going to harm him politically. He was a very shrewd politician. He angered a ton of people here in Texas yet everyone still loves him(Texas Democrats that is). How did he do that?
@MusaJames Texas went from a blue heavy state to a red heavy state in the clinton period too. When Clinton was president Texas had 1 GOP governor since the civil war era, republicans had never controlled congress/senate. Now it has republicans in control of everything.
Dems almost took back the Texas congress/senate, till they left the state few years back in order to keep legislation tied up and not vote on some issues. Dems screwed themselves out of controling Texas for at least 10 years
Why are people so retarded that they don't understand that raising taxes on the rich slows down the recovery of a recessive economy. My god, like read a book people...
@willsbanana Look at greek, greek has 2 main parties, for 4 decades both parties have promised more and better public sector jobs for their voters. Now greek is in trouble, Unions literally control everything, the people are upset because the public sector has bloated itself to critical mass, yet many still protest the cuts to roads made from pure gold. (exageration, greek roads arent pure gold, only 10% :P )
And it's not like this is going to go away.. who do you think is going to be the Democratic Party's presidential nominee in 2016? Hillary Clinton... the people are screwed.
Clinton has been dead to me since he sabotaged that primary election in Arkansas. He's jealous of Obama even more ferociously now that Obama got Osama.
Plus, I've come to the realization that the Dems & GOP are playing the game of 'Good cop, Bad cop ' since the 80's.
Only trust the ones that go against the grain[ Bernie Sanders, Alan Grayson, maybe Anthony Weiner...jury's still out on that one due to his Israel policy].
@kalifani The best thing Clinton ever did was to enact the Welfare Reform act. However, Obama hated that. Why should anyone have to actually WORK in Obamaland???
Medicare is popular? Get out of here! You really think I'd believe a program that gives people free things is popular?
That is where Cenk gets it wrong with democracy.
The fact is people are dependent on the federal government. Ultimately medicare/caid will end, due to financial reasons. I think we should be promoting responsible cuts, ie finding waste and fraud. Seniors have the lowest incident of poverty of any age group, yet we fund wealthy seniors healthcare because they "paid in"?
between medicare(>50 million people) and medicaid(about 47 million) we're already insuring a 1/3 of the country's 300 million people, and they are the sickest oldest poorest 1/3. It wouldn't be to difficult to insure the other relatively healthy 2/3. Right now Medicaid is 3% of earned income. EVERYONE could be covered for for around 9-11%(around what canada pays). Right now the US spends 17.3% of GDP on healthcare. We'll see what happens in Vermont.
@ladylordess The Democrats have a plan. The one initiated by FDR currently running an annual $77 BILLION SURPLUS. It's called MEDICARE. It's a program that has proved enormously beneficial, which is why rightwingers want to END it!
Half the rightwing ADMITS they want to end Medicare, the other half pretends they want to save Medicare while trying to destroy it (ie The Ryan Plan to End Medicare)!
The GOP is only for entitlments for those who don't deserve it - the wealthiest Americans!
@HNK222 If Bankruptcy is your desired result, then it was very successful. You spend $1.50 for every $1 that is taken in. Great Plan!!! No wonder the brainy dems think that it works. However, CLinton knows the truth. The Ryan Plan saves Medicare from going bankrupt, preserving it for future generations! I know that IS a hard concept for the Dems to understand. The Dems DO NOT have a current plan, as they prefer it that way. It is time to act like adults and face reality!!
@HNK222 A SURPLUS, huh? Then how is it that our gov't is 14 trillion in debt? That "surplus" is spent on a bunch of other crap and then the gov't issues IOU's aka treasury bonds, borrowing money FROM THEMSELVES. That's for social security only. That "surplus" is spent on Medicare, giving money to ACORN, bailing out business that are "too big to fail," insane and worthless studies, giving money away to Brazil so they can drill offshore, etc. There is no surplus. It's an illusion.
@TheRealCritique You sir, are a cry baby who feels entitled to that which I have earned. You think taxing more before cutting the spending will work?? ROTFLMAO. I guess you work for someone other than yourself, as you are incapable of thinking, let alone coming up with a plan, other than the one the DNC tells you too. lol You are still a joke.
@ladylordess I doubt you're rich if you're on this board. You're just some moronic koolaid drinker of the right-wing, or maybe you are some aging bluehair a day from the grave. EIther way, you're an obstruciton to national progress. You prob got your money from your daddy or a husband anyway.
@TheRealCritique Just because you aren't successful doesn't mean that successful people are not present on this board. The RICH you are so afraid of are everywhere. You are envious of people with money, as you assume they married it or inherited it, as you KNOW no other way!!!! I pity you, just like your wife did.
@ladylordess if i inherited even a small amount. Say 2 million. And i invested 1 million on it in a savings account that accrued say, 4% (not unthinkable), by the end of the year i would gain $40,000 for doing absolutely nothing. That's almost the average annual national middle class salary, for doing ZERO work...are we jealous? Wouldn't you be? 40k for doing nothing other than having a dead uncle? And if you don't think this sort of thing happens EVERY day...you're dreamin...
If you were truly successful, you'd have your own personally upload videos rather than just be on here swinging on the right-wing's nuts. Please, resorting to personal attacks because you lack the ability to argue? Go back to grade school. Only way you might possibly be "successful" (middle-class) is by marrying some dumbass to support you.
@PzownedProductions That is what you think, however did you ever stop to think about WHY I don't have my personally uploaded videos?? When it comes to fame and fortune, as so many want, I have no need for the fame portion. I only wanted the fortune portion, and I have already achieved my goal. I only watch YT videos in addition to reading news. I have no deep need for the fame, as you may. Good luck with that. FYI - U can only dream of a women like me. It will NEVER happen 4u, ur2 ugly.
Probably because, 1., If you did upload them, we'd see that you're not pretty enough to score a successful man, or 2., you can't afford a video camera. You keep telling yourself you're rich and gorgeous and what have you, but remember, sucking the government's teat doesn't make you rich, and we call you welfare queens in a degrading manner, not because you're good looking enough to be a queen :) Your screenname belies your illusions of grandeur.
@PzownedProductions OK. Whatever you say. I bet you hear that often from your ex.
Which is it? I am too ugly to score with a successful man OR I marry for money? LOL. Keep your imaginary stories straight!!!! Remember, sucking at the government teat via redistribution of wealth will keep you dependent and never successful. Good Luck with your sucking problems.
Oh, I seem to have gotten under someone's skin so easily. What's the matter, am I striking too close to the core? I understand, junior high must have have been hard for you, and high school onto adult life probably isn't easier, but if you weren't so ill-equipped to engage in a battle of smarts I might pay more interest. Now, go back under your little bridge, TYT doesn't have time for trolls.
@ladylordess yeah, OK, box, keep making shit up out of thin air. My wife hasnt left me, and I'm sure she's better put together than you are, since you're either a rotting American spud or a dried out Palm Springs handbag. Either way, you know nothing about economics.
The rich of both parties killed the goose that laid the golden egg, the middle class consumer. The Dems know they have to go back to stimulus, and the selfish repugs want to keep making the same mistake. Repugs export jobs.
@TheRealCritique Your wife left you and took every penny that you had. Keep pretending otherwise!! Keep drinking the Kool-aid. Delusional looks soooo good on you. I can guarantee that if you are capable of looking up any current economic indicator, you will see that Obama Blamed Bush, and has done nothing to improve them, only made them worse. The only thing that went up, has been gas prices and unemployment. The economy is in serious trouble, Thanks Obama, Blame Bush, that will help!!
You libtards are aware that senor citizens are the richest people in America right? Taxing the rich might make you feel better but it won't fix anythig.
CENK! your too close minded, I know you wanna believe, but the honest truth their are not democrats or republicans. What we have here are the super elite, and the servants of the elite... We need a real uprising, and no I DONT think this is a conspiracy or anything stupid like that, i think its just greedy bastards working independently for money and power, who don't give a flying about the people! Thumbs up if you agree!!
Why do you Libs keep trying to convince everyone that rich people don't pay taxes?
You need to research how far in the red the program actually is. Unfortunately "reform" isn't going to cut it. The Dems know full well that these programs have to be cut. They just don't want it done on their watch. This is evidence of that.
I wouldnt make too much of the short conversation.
I recall some Republicans calling Clinton a scumball (& worse) who should be impeached & Clinton later inviting the politician to the WH to discuss govt polucies & the name-calling was never brought up. He seemed to always be civil w/ other politicians
"It's all just politics....democrats are just trying to get re-elected." And you're just figuring this out?!? Go to WalMart and get a clue! The point is choice, not eliminating Medicare or Social Security. Let the People (i.e. the taxpayers) have a choice whether to give the Government their money or to choose their own plans for health care and retirement. Again, the point is choice, because free people can choose.
Good old bill, he really needs to come out of the political closet and admit he is a republican. He share so much with them, he cut the millitary/they cut the millitary, he is a sexual devent/they have more kids out of wedlock then saddam, he signed free trade which injuried the middle class/they signed bills that destroyed the middle class and caused the worst economic colapse in US history, he fought for the rich getting your tax dollars/they gave the rich your tax dollars.
Cenk, you are such a moron! You defend the status quo. Look at what that has gotten us? Fiscal crises! So, your solution to fix it? More of the same! More spending, no cuts, higher taxes, yada, yada, liberal yada. Remind me not to hire you as my accountant! Good grief man! Clinton said what everyone knows, we are in a fiscal crises! Yet, to a liberal like you doing nothing is the perfect answer! You idiots are done wrecking my country! Jackass!
@MastermindX ... What are you talking about? Who said anything about Bush increasing taxes? Are you saying that libs arn't doing nothing but rather you are pushing for tax increases? LOL... Yeah, that should work lovely in a rescession that your hero Obama has made far worse in 2.5 years. Yeah lets tax those who hire people alot more, that will surely cause them to hire even more people right? This is why liberals should just sit around and hug trees. Let the heavy thinking to us smarties! LOL
@aSingleDallasGuy What I'm saying said increasing taxes is doing "more of the same" that got us into this recession, however Bush got us into this, and he lowered taxes, so your argument is quite silly.
@MastermindX .... Your timing is off. Bush cut taxes in 2001. The economy was roaring from then to late 2008. So, cutting taxes was a good thing. Only a moron could relate the housing callapse which was and still is the main reason for this rescession to tax cuts in 2001. You fail moron! Govt over spending including your idiot president spending 4 TRILLION on nothing that he called a stimulus is the reason we are still in it. Your hero Obama has been prez for 2.5 years and its far worse now!
The Republican was right on. Obama's budget was fully rejected by the Senate in a 0-99 vote. Dems don't really want to fix anything. All they want to do is make govt. bigger and more intrusive by constantly raising taxes in order to "redistribute" the money to their own constituents for votes, which is how the public unions also do it. In essence, they just want to keep their ponzi scheme going no matter what, hence the fear mongering. Dems are a total disgrace to this country!
I ask the same question again...If you cut out my social security and medicare, do I have to keep paying into those? The answer to that question is more important than the issue itself because if they say, "yes you have to continue to pay", who would be in favor of cutting the programs?
What i dont get is Vermount recently passed single payer healthcare for its state. I am all for States handling their business. Where is the coverage Cenk? Seriously?
You have stories covering Super smart nazi dogs, Texas Pedophile female teachers, Dick Cheney worshipping Ryan, Utah outlawing sexiness, and a man having sex with thousands of cars. Riviting stuff fellas.
We need to cut the military, Medicare and Social Security. We're 14 trillion in debt, our economy is growing at a slower rate than in the past, and every year, we're adding to that debt. We're going to crumble like the former Soviet Union at this rate.
(To put our debt into perspective, there is currently only 1 trillion dollars circulating in the ENTIRE United States right now).
@namordecai Ah na baby, not like the USSR, more like Western Rome, Dark Ages 2 incoming :D
But it wont be like the last dark ages, considering the western world is no longer the worlds most barbaric, blood drinking, Pagan, human sacrificing hooligans, we were 1500 years ago. Then again, places like the Congo wont notice a differance at all. XD
Medicare, Social Security and Defense each are about equal in size and need cut. However of the three only SS comes close to paying for itself. So which one will get cut?
Don't let this ruin your political fantasy. We can still believe that there is a difference between partisan parties. That was just Clinton, and they weren't whispering because they wanted to hide what they were saying, but whispering just because they didn't want to be rude and disturb the announcer in the background.
@seanlaca OFCOURSE THERE'S A DIFFERENCE!!! One is called the Republicans, and the other call themselves Democrats. One party is also more blatantly racist while the other is more subtle about it. They also serve the interests of DIFFERENT CORPORATIONS, although there is some overlap. Other than that.....hmm.
@TadaHanJan I don't mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but, bringing race into this is exactly what they want. It's a classic divide and conquer stratagy. Racisim and hate will exist as long as diversity exists. They are for the rich. It's true that most rich people happen to be white. But the people who want to take away medicare so that they can have lower taxes are cut from the same cloth as feudal lords, who made their own people to serve as slaves on the feudal estates of Europe.
@kris7780 It IS, in fact, a classic divide and conquer strategy, for all parties at any part of the spectrum. And it works, too, along with some other issues such as religion, abortion, etc. But my statement was made with reality in mind. The Republican party, as well as the Tea party, is obviously blatantly racist. The Democrats are less racist at least in appearance towards minorities, but then there's some blatant reverse racism displayed by many members. That still counts as racist.
@TadaHanJan I was not arguing that there isn't racism. I was saying that their goals and motivations are not racist, but rather classist. My point is also that they are using racism, which will always exist to some extent, as a means of keeping people distracted.
@TadaHanJan (cont.) If white people, for example, can be made to feel that black people are abusing welfare to the financial ruin of the country, they will side with Republicans against black people. On the other had if black people can be made to feel that whites are holding them back th ey will, side with the Democrats. This means that no movement can bring both sides together and use the power of the middle class/poor majority.
@kris7780 You are absolutely right, and it's kind of what I was getting at. Politics is getting more and more extreme, and they have no shame utilizing anything and everything possible to achieve their goals. It's really sad to watch, although I must admit it would be a fascinating show if I were an outsider. We are teaching the rest of the democratic world how to fuck up your country, by supporting politicians who are staying out of touch with reality and being opportunistic sharks.
@TadaHanJan I agree. In 70 years or so this all will make for an interesting documentary! It's a shame Obama didn't turn out to be this generation's FDR. I do think that being black in this case has tuned out to be more of an obstacle than polio. Although I still think that he lacked too much of Bush's drive to get much done.
@kris7780 Yeah, I had hoped Obama would do a little better, I didn't expect this much extremism from the conservative right in this time of crisis. Ahh well. Obama is a guy who knows how to negotiate and get things done, but I do think he tends to compensate a little too much, if you know what I mean. As much as I don't like him, Bush did have an aggressiveness that helped him get things done, and that is something Obama definitely should learn from.
@TadaHanJan Obama gets "something" done, but the Republican/Bush aggressiveness gets what they want. I really haven't seen Obama claim a victory against the Republicans at all. The only thing that keeps Democrats from losing more elections is that Republicans can't resist looking like assholes. But acting the way they do, I think they could get what they want even if the Democrats crushed them in an election and retook the majoity in Congress decisively.
@kris7780 Couldn't have said it better myself. But in a way, you have to admit the Republicans are being really smart, even if unethical, about what they do. It's very effective, and does a lot to consolidate their bases even if it does lose them some moderates. I don't want Democrats to employ the same tactics though, one party doing this is already too much, don't need two. Like Alan Grayson with his "Taliban Dan" campaign, that was a serious facepalm moment.
@kris7780 I'm hoping that democrats will learn from the republican/tea party's playbook and find a way to counter it without stooping to the same level. I guess I wish for too much, eh? By the way, I still dislike the Democratic party. I just lean towards them because I DESPISE the current Republican party. The Tea party's become a joke so I'm not even going to talk about them lol
@TadaHanJan Yeah I'm not a big Dem. fan either. The Republican's "for the rich" motto turned me against them. I can't see how middle class people can stand with them.
@kris7780 Yeah lol. Funny thing is, I considered myself a republican in part because of my religion until I hit 18 and started taking an interest in politics. Someone asked me what party I affiliated myself with, and I said "Republicans", and he asked "Why? You disagree with pretty much everything they advocate." I still wish the Republicans would go back to PROTECTING the people AGAINST corruption and special interests. i don't see it happening, though.
@TadaHanJan lol Yeah the Republican party is the "Christian party". I had the same type of experience. I assume you meant the Christian religion. In many ways the progressive position is more true to the teachings of Jesus, and I think the Democrats would be wise to use that to their advantage.
@kris7780 You got it ;) Presbyterian, to be exact. Funny story, my pastor hates the republican party for distorting the teachings of the bible and using it for their own purposes. For example, Jesus basically said rich people are gonna have a REAL hard time getting in to heaven (Camel through a needle's head), but the Republicans protect the right of the wealthy to keep their riches and not contribute back to society should they choose to do so, which they do.
@TadaHanJan lol sounds like I could get along with him! I've debated so many people on here over that subject. it's really amazing how people will take for granted that what Republicans say is Biblically sound, as if all Jesus really wants is for us to be anti abotion and gay rights.
@kris7780 Kind of like how they misquote our founding fathers. Guess who said Religion is the cause of the worst human behavior? Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Jon Adams, and other founding fathers. Guess who wrote a bible with the teachings but without the religious component? And this is just the start. Why did they create the Union? So they could stop being colonies that pay tributes, keep their profits, and run things the way THEY saw fit. Nothing new or unusual.
@TadaHanJan Yeah the idea that we were founded to be a "Christian nation" drives me crazy. There is no Christian teaching that indicates that we should even attempt to create such a thing. And from it's foundation as a rebellious, intolerant, deceitful, and war-starting country the US has never attempted to behave very Christian.
@kris7780 What do you mean? It sounds exactly like how other Christians behaved, like in Europe. Come on, Crusades? Witch hunts? I'm not even going to begin on Israel, since technically the vast majority aren't Christian, but Jewish.
@TadaHanJan I would argue that none of those counties or even the Catholic Church, as it acted so often as a political entity, was "Christian". Since Constantine rulers have used Christianity as a means of controlling their subjects. How "Christian" an organization is should be based on how closely it adheres to the teachings of Jesus, not just what it is calling itself.
@kris7780 lol you just bought the ire of most Christian churches, if not all. I've only ever seen small, tight knit churches actually REALLY adhere to the true teachings of Jesus Christ in serving their fellow humans, regardless of their faith. As for the quotes in the Bible that teach us to be separate from actual governing of countries, they usually get conveniently ignored or the meaning distorted when being taught, at least in my first hand experiences. I don't know that it's ALWAYS the case
@TadaHanJan I think it's interesting that people work so hard to disprove the notion that Islam is violent and war-like, while still pretending that Jesus authorized the witch hunts and Crusades. That being said I know very little about Islam, except that it can hardly be more passive, especially to outsiders than the teachings of Christ.
@kris7780 Actually, most major religions, including Christianity, Islam, and even mainstream forms of Buddhism include justifications of the use of violence. Most likely this is not actual teachings from the respective deities but more likely inserted by the ruling class(=religious leaders back then) to justify the use of force, whether in justifiable self-defense or for their own greedy agendas. It's understandable, considering religion was used to govern back then.
@TadaHanJan Apart from the Old Testament, the Bible doesn't authorize Christians to commit any acts of violence. With the possible exception of Jesus driving the moneychangers from the temple with a scourge made from small cords, though from a Christian perspective it can hardly be said that we hold the same authority to act that Jesus did.
@kris7780 The one exception you mentioned is what a lot of people use to justify violence, saying that even Jesus uses force when necessary. It's sad........oh well. And remember, he did that because they were making the church in to a place of business. And what are churches now? Oh that's right, a place of business and connections and inside deals. Oh, the irony!
@TadaHanJan But just because they use something as justification does not mean that it truly is justification. The same people who use Jesus to justify violence will bend over backwards to avoid giving to the poor even though Jesus taught to turn the other cheek and give to those who ask.
@kris7780 Yup, that's why I said "Justify". That's a world apart from actually being acceptable. Not much violence is truly acceptable, if you think about it. It really comes down to human greed. You know what they say, Greed is like a double edged sword: It motivates us, but at the same time it can be our downfall.
Any religion, or group should be judged based on its own principles not how well they are kept. If not, it is not the religion or group being judged, but those who claim to be members. Would the Nazis have been good if they lacked the nerve to kill Jews? Or were they bad because it was a Nazi principle that Jews must be killed?
If I commit murder in Jesus' name people think that I was obeying Jesus, not my own will, but if I kill in the name of Gandhi, or MLK people would think I was crazy, because they are known to be pacifists. Why should the standard be different?
There is also the point that Christians are taught to be separate from the world. Even Paul wrote "who am I to judge those who are outside the Church"
@TadaHanJan Although in the defense of the US, no country could be truly Christian since Christianity is based on the individual or church, not a nation
@kris7780 Well that's true, but they can certainly ignore the "Religion should be separate from state" rule and try to run things the way they want. And because this is a democratic country, there is no way to stop them from doing so.
@kris7780 And yes, people who want to cut medicare benefits as proposed by Paul Ryan now is insane and completely out of touch. But Medicare DOES need some radical revision and there is no doubt about that. The problem is do you A)Reduce costs by reforming regulations and preventing service providers, pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies from charging ridiculous prices? or B)Reduce costs by cutting benefits provided to subscribers and let them fend for themselves?
@TadaHanJan I think that given the present state of jobs and the economy it is a terrible idea to cause people to have to fend for themselves, the idea should be seen as a scandal not even an option. One of the jobs of government should be to protect its people from all threats, be it terrorists or profiteers.
@kris7780 I tend to agree with you, however, many others think the it's not the government's job to protect us but our own, which is where the problem begins. We live in a country where we are supposed to respect the political opinions of others, but how can we come to a consensus if we are all split? That's where the political system comes in, and unfortunately it's seriously corrupted by special interests, which adds to the problem. Still, better than being under oppressive dictatorship ^_^
@TadaHanJan Well there was a period in US history during the Depression when the government didn't look out for it's people, and criminals were seen as heroes, because they were seen as the only ones fighting the people responsible. I wonder if we will see a return to times like that. I really think Americans are too passive to force change.
@kris7780 Looks like a job for Robin Hood? But seriously, I don't think it's about being too passive, but more about extremists not willing to face reality and make concessions or face facts and admit they are wrong, regardless of how awesome their ideology sounds. Of course, the money from special interests juuuuuust might play a part in their unwillingness to budge. *wink*
@TadaHanJan I'm not an extremist in anyway, but we actually need is an extreme left wing movement. A seriously socialist movement that is as passionate as the Tea Party. The Tea Part prods the Republicans to go even further and and always demand more. If such a left wing group existed the power would be more balanced.
@kris7780 As much as I hate extremists, you are probably right. I have to agree that the right-wing swing in the current political atmosphere is due to the influence of right wing extremists in the Tea Party, and an extreme left wing party would help offset that. However, extreme leftists would be easy to label as "Communists" or "socialists" which is a no-no stigma, even though there's actually nothing inherently bad about it. Those are great theories, they just suck in reality.
You could label the Tea Party as fascist, immoral, fat cats. Do a better job of getting the tons of facts about lowering income among the poor and middle class. Turn the health care problem into a full blown crisis. Quote Jesus and point out how immoral greed is. Turn them into Antichrists. Turn Christianity against them, asking what would Jesus really do about wages and health care.
I've said this before and I will keep saying it until it sinks in for everyone.... The Democrates are just Repubicans who don't bullshit you (atleast for the most part). they are bought by the same people!
@treysparker I know math and macro economics.... What is your point? Taxes need to be raised on the rich... Do you agree? If not, do you understand math and macro/micro econimcs?!
@treysparker This really shouldn't be about math at all, and in fact it isn't. This is class warfare. The upper class feels that they have worked so hard that they alone deserve everything and that it is immoral to take from them though taxation or regulation. This isn't about math it's about morality.
Bill is OK, but he DOES need to shut his mouth. The left can't even get a win without him trying to weaken it. There is plenty of time to talk about how we proceed, and everybody already knows that something must be done, but letting the republicans off the hook like that is near treasonous in these "play for keeps" days.We've got the republicans on their heels - they should be kept there. Compromise later from a position of strength.
It's funny how Bill Clinton, a most trusted Democrat, becomes a pariah for telling the truth and for willingness to reach across the aisle. MEDICARE IS UNSUSTAINABLE. That'd due to "the math," not politics. You libs can do math, can't you? You do know the consequences of printing tons of money, right? Inflation? Economic stagnation? (Stagflation, as they call it). Listen to Clinton and FIX our budget crisis, before we end up in a freaking depression.
~~~~*~*~*GRANDPARENTS & PARENTS do you want your children NOT TO BENEFIT from MEDICARE? REPUBLICAN PAUL RYAN HAS MADE IT HIS LIFE'S MISSION TO TAKE MEDICARE AWAY & REPLACE IT WITH A VOUCHER SYSTEM. TWO TRILLION dollars in REVENUE has been lost in the last 10 yrs because of the BUSH TAX CUTS..................................................................... He wants your children to pay for that lost revenue by DENYING THEM MEDICARE!!

I wonder if Cenk has any clue that ObamaCare strips billions from Medicare & Medicaid. You'd think he'd have a problem with that. Oh wait,..... that was done by Democrats, so that makes it "ok". Trying to make adjustments to Medicare to help it survive longer & allow our kids & grandkids enjoy this entitlement is only a "sin" when it's done by Republicans, I guess. That must be why I haven't seen any ads with someone pushing a crib off the cliff while talking about Medicare changes.

@DeepRootsFilms The reason why medicare is because (1) the excess Medicare payroll taxes from times past were never banked and (2) health care costs were allowed to skyrocket out of control due to a lack of single payer health care.

I like how everyone has a short term memory when it comes to Bill Clinton. Clinton cut a shit load of people off of welfare. Clinton was never a tax and spend liberal that people think he was. He shut down Kelly AFB here in San Antonio despite how many people it employed. Clinton was a Democrat that had no problem forcing people to get work.

@MusaJames Dont forget the 80km Super Collider that was 90% complete in Texas. Not saying that was Clinton alone, it was a victim of politics, still, it was Clinton that did it.
Fitzcard 9 months ago
@Fitzcard I forgot about that one. Clinton wasn't alone but he would cut anything that he thought was going to harm him politically. He was a very shrewd politician. He angered a ton of people here in Texas yet everyone still loves him(Texas Democrats that is). How did he do that?
MusaJames 9 months ago
@MusaJames Texas went from a blue heavy state to a red heavy state in the clinton period too. When Clinton was president Texas had 1 GOP governor since the civil war era, republicans had never controlled congress/senate. Now it has republicans in control of everything.
Dems almost took back the Texas congress/senate, till they left the state few years back in order to keep legislation tied up and not vote on some issues. Dems screwed themselves out of controling Texas for at least 10 years

Medicare is popular? Get out of here! You really think I'd believe a program that gives people free things is popular?
That is where Cenk gets it wrong with democracy.
The fact is people are dependent on the federal government. Ultimately medicare/caid will end, due to financial reasons. I think we should be promoting responsible cuts, ie finding waste and fraud. Seniors have the lowest incident of poverty of any age group, yet we fund wealthy seniors healthcare because they "paid in"?

between medicare(>50 million people) and medicaid(about 47 million) we're already insuring a 1/3 of the country's 300 million people, and they are the sickest oldest poorest 1/3. It wouldn't be to difficult to insure the other relatively healthy 2/3. Right now Medicaid is 3% of earned income. EVERYONE could be covered for for around 9-11%(around what canada pays). Right now the US spends 17.3% of GDP on healthcare. We'll see what happens in Vermont.

ladylordess 9 months ago 2
@ladylordess The Democrats have a plan. The one initiated by FDR currently running an annual $77 BILLION SURPLUS. It's called MEDICARE. It's a program that has proved enormously beneficial, which is why rightwingers want to END it!
Half the rightwing ADMITS they want to end Medicare, the other half pretends they want to save Medicare while trying to destroy it (ie The Ryan Plan to End Medicare)!
The GOP is only for entitlments for those who don't deserve it - the wealthiest Americans!
HNK222 9 months ago
@HNK222 If Bankruptcy is your desired result, then it was very successful. You spend $1.50 for every $1 that is taken in. Great Plan!!! No wonder the brainy dems think that it works. However, CLinton knows the truth. The Ryan Plan saves Medicare from going bankrupt, preserving it for future generations! I know that IS a hard concept for the Dems to understand. The Dems DO NOT have a current plan, as they prefer it that way. It is time to act like adults and face reality!!
ladylordess 9 months ago
@HNK222 A SURPLUS, huh? Then how is it that our gov't is 14 trillion in debt? That "surplus" is spent on a bunch of other crap and then the gov't issues IOU's aka treasury bonds, borrowing money FROM THEMSELVES. That's for social security only. That "surplus" is spent on Medicare, giving money to ACORN, bailing out business that are "too big to fail," insane and worthless studies, giving money away to Brazil so they can drill offshore, etc. There is no surplus. It's an illusion.

Let the heavy thinking to us smarties! LOL
aSingleDallasGuy 9 months ago
@aSingleDallasGuy What I'm saying said increasing taxes is doing "more of the same" that got us into this recession, however Bush got us into this, and he lowered taxes, so your argument is quite silly.
MastermindX 9 months ago
@MastermindX .... Your timing is off. Bush cut taxes in 2001. The economy was roaring from then to late 2008. So, cutting taxes was a good thing. Only a moron could relate the housing callapse which was and still is the main reason for this rescession to tax cuts in 2001. You fail moron! Govt over spending including your idiot president spending 4 TRILLION on nothing that he called a stimulus is the reason we are still in it. Your hero Obama has been prez for 2.5 years and its far worse now!
aSingleDallasGuy 8 months ago
The Republican was right on. Obama's budget was fully rejected by the Senate in a 0-99 vote. Dems don't really want to fix anything. All they want to do is make govt. bigger and more intrusive by constantly raising taxes in order to "redistribute" the money to their own constituents for votes, which is how the public unions also do it. In essence, they just want to keep their ponzi scheme going no matter what, hence the fear mongering. Dems are a total disgrace to this country!

@seanlaca OFCOURSE THERE'S A DIFFERENCE!!! One is called the Republicans, and the other call themselves Democrats. One party is also more blatantly racist while the other is more subtle about it. They also serve the interests of DIFFERENT CORPORATIONS, although there is some overlap. Other than that.....hmm.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan I don't mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but, bringing race into this is exactly what they want. It's a classic divide and conquer stratagy. Racisim and hate will exist as long as diversity exists. They are for the rich. It's true that most rich people happen to be white. But the people who want to take away medicare so that they can have lower taxes are cut from the same cloth as feudal lords, who made their own people to serve as slaves on the feudal estates of Europe.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 It IS, in fact, a classic divide and conquer strategy, for all parties at any part of the spectrum. And it works, too, along with some other issues such as religion, abortion, etc. But my statement was made with reality in mind. The Republican party, as well as the Tea party, is obviously blatantly racist. The Democrats are less racist at least in appearance towards minorities, but then there's some blatant reverse racism displayed by many members. That still counts as racist.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan I was not arguing that there isn't racism. I was saying that their goals and motivations are not racist, but rather classist. My point is also that they are using racism, which will always exist to some extent, as a means of keeping people distracted.
kris7780 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan (cont.) If white people, for example, can be made to feel that black people are abusing welfare to the financial ruin of the country, they will side with Republicans against black people. On the other had if black people can be made to feel that whites are holding them back th ey will, side with the Democrats. This means that no movement can bring both sides together and use the power of the middle class/poor majority.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 You are absolutely right, and it's kind of what I was getting at. Politics is getting more and more extreme, and they have no shame utilizing anything and everything possible to achieve their goals. It's really sad to watch, although I must admit it would be a fascinating show if I were an outsider. We are teaching the rest of the democratic world how to fuck up your country, by supporting politicians who are staying out of touch with reality and being opportunistic sharks.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan I agree. In 70 years or so this all will make for an interesting documentary! It's a shame Obama didn't turn out to be this generation's FDR. I do think that being black in this case has tuned out to be more of an obstacle than polio. Although I still think that he lacked too much of Bush's drive to get much done.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 Yeah, I had hoped Obama would do a little better, I didn't expect this much extremism from the conservative right in this time of crisis. Ahh well. Obama is a guy who knows how to negotiate and get things done, but I do think he tends to compensate a little too much, if you know what I mean. As much as I don't like him, Bush did have an aggressiveness that helped him get things done, and that is something Obama definitely should learn from.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan Obama gets "something" done, but the Republican/Bush aggressiveness gets what they want. I really haven't seen Obama claim a victory against the Republicans at all. The only thing that keeps Democrats from losing more elections is that Republicans can't resist looking like assholes. But acting the way they do, I think they could get what they want even if the Democrats crushed them in an election and retook the majoity in Congress decisively.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 Couldn't have said it better myself. But in a way, you have to admit the Republicans are being really smart, even if unethical, about what they do. It's very effective, and does a lot to consolidate their bases even if it does lose them some moderates. I don't want Democrats to employ the same tactics though, one party doing this is already too much, don't need two. Like Alan Grayson with his "Taliban Dan" campaign, that was a serious facepalm moment.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan I don't know about not using the same tactics. If your in a fight you go with what works. And they have shown us what works.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 I'm hoping that democrats will learn from the republican/tea party's playbook and find a way to counter it without stooping to the same level. I guess I wish for too much, eh? By the way, I still dislike the Democratic party. I just lean towards them because I DESPISE the current Republican party. The Tea party's become a joke so I'm not even going to talk about them lol
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan Yeah I'm not a big Dem. fan either. The Republican's "for the rich" motto turned me against them. I can't see how middle class people can stand with them.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 Yeah lol. Funny thing is, I considered myself a republican in part because of my religion until I hit 18 and started taking an interest in politics. Someone asked me what party I affiliated myself with, and I said "Republicans", and he asked "Why? You disagree with pretty much everything they advocate." I still wish the Republicans would go back to PROTECTING the people AGAINST corruption and special interests. i don't see it happening, though.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan lol Yeah the Republican party is the "Christian party". I had the same type of experience. I assume you meant the Christian religion. In many ways the progressive position is more true to the teachings of Jesus, and I think the Democrats would be wise to use that to their advantage.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 You got it ;) Presbyterian, to be exact. Funny story, my pastor hates the republican party for distorting the teachings of the bible and using it for their own purposes. For example, Jesus basically said rich people are gonna have a REAL hard time getting in to heaven (Camel through a needle's head), but the Republicans protect the right of the wealthy to keep their riches and not contribute back to society should they choose to do so, which they do.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan lol sounds like I could get along with him! I've debated so many people on here over that subject. it's really amazing how people will take for granted that what Republicans say is Biblically sound, as if all Jesus really wants is for us to be anti abotion and gay rights.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 Kind of like how they misquote our founding fathers. Guess who said Religion is the cause of the worst human behavior? Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Jon Adams, and other founding fathers. Guess who wrote a bible with the teachings but without the religious component? And this is just the start. Why did they create the Union? So they could stop being colonies that pay tributes, keep their profits, and run things the way THEY saw fit. Nothing new or unusual.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan Yeah the idea that we were founded to be a "Christian nation" drives me crazy. There is no Christian teaching that indicates that we should even attempt to create such a thing. And from it's foundation as a rebellious, intolerant, deceitful, and war-starting country the US has never attempted to behave very Christian.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 What do you mean? It sounds exactly like how other Christians behaved, like in Europe. Come on, Crusades? Witch hunts? I'm not even going to begin on Israel, since technically the vast majority aren't Christian, but Jewish.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan I would argue that none of those counties or even the Catholic Church, as it acted so often as a political entity, was "Christian". Since Constantine rulers have used Christianity as a means of controlling their subjects. How "Christian" an organization is should be based on how closely it adheres to the teachings of Jesus, not just what it is calling itself.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 lol you just bought the ire of most Christian churches, if not all. I've only ever seen small, tight knit churches actually REALLY adhere to the true teachings of Jesus Christ in serving their fellow humans, regardless of their faith. As for the quotes in the Bible that teach us to be separate from actual governing of countries, they usually get conveniently ignored or the meaning distorted when being taught, at least in my first hand experiences. I don't know that it's ALWAYS the case
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan I think it's interesting that people work so hard to disprove the notion that Islam is violent and war-like, while still pretending that Jesus authorized the witch hunts and Crusades. That being said I know very little about Islam, except that it can hardly be more passive, especially to outsiders than the teachings of Christ.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 Actually, most major religions, including Christianity, Islam, and even mainstream forms of Buddhism include justifications of the use of violence. Most likely this is not actual teachings from the respective deities but more likely inserted by the ruling class(=religious leaders back then) to justify the use of force, whether in justifiable self-defense or for their own greedy agendas. It's understandable, considering religion was used to govern back then.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan Apart from the Old Testament, the Bible doesn't authorize Christians to commit any acts of violence. With the possible exception of Jesus driving the moneychangers from the temple with a scourge made from small cords, though from a Christian perspective it can hardly be said that we hold the same authority to act that Jesus did.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 The one exception you mentioned is what a lot of people use to justify violence, saying that even Jesus uses force when necessary. It's sad........oh well. And remember, he did that because they were making the church in to a place of business. And what are churches now? Oh that's right, a place of business and connections and inside deals. Oh, the irony!
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan But just because they use something as justification does not mean that it truly is justification. The same people who use Jesus to justify violence will bend over backwards to avoid giving to the poor even though Jesus taught to turn the other cheek and give to those who ask.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 Yup, that's why I said "Justify". That's a world apart from actually being acceptable. Not much violence is truly acceptable, if you think about it. It really comes down to human greed. You know what they say, Greed is like a double edged sword: It motivates us, but at the same time it can be our downfall.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
Any religion, or group should be judged based on its own principles not how well they are kept. If not, it is not the religion or group being judged, but those who claim to be members. Would the Nazis have been good if they lacked the nerve to kill Jews? Or were they bad because it was a Nazi principle that Jews must be killed?
kris7780 9 months ago
If I commit murder in Jesus' name people think that I was obeying Jesus, not my own will, but if I kill in the name of Gandhi, or MLK people would think I was crazy, because they are known to be pacifists. Why should the standard be different?
kris7780 9 months ago
There is also the point that Christians are taught to be separate from the world. Even Paul wrote "who am I to judge those who are outside the Church"
kris7780 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan Although in the defense of the US, no country could be truly Christian since Christianity is based on the individual or church, not a nation
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 Well that's true, but they can certainly ignore the "Religion should be separate from state" rule and try to run things the way they want. And because this is a democratic country, there is no way to stop them from doing so.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@kris7780 And yes, people who want to cut medicare benefits as proposed by Paul Ryan now is insane and completely out of touch. But Medicare DOES need some radical revision and there is no doubt about that. The problem is do you A)Reduce costs by reforming regulations and preventing service providers, pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies from charging ridiculous prices? or B)Reduce costs by cutting benefits provided to subscribers and let them fend for themselves?
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan I think that given the present state of jobs and the economy it is a terrible idea to cause people to have to fend for themselves, the idea should be seen as a scandal not even an option. One of the jobs of government should be to protect its people from all threats, be it terrorists or profiteers.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 I tend to agree with you, however, many others think the it's not the government's job to protect us but our own, which is where the problem begins. We live in a country where we are supposed to respect the political opinions of others, but how can we come to a consensus if we are all split? That's where the political system comes in, and unfortunately it's seriously corrupted by special interests, which adds to the problem. Still, better than being under oppressive dictatorship ^_^
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan Well there was a period in US history during the Depression when the government didn't look out for it's people, and criminals were seen as heroes, because they were seen as the only ones fighting the people responsible. I wonder if we will see a return to times like that. I really think Americans are too passive to force change.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 Looks like a job for Robin Hood? But seriously, I don't think it's about being too passive, but more about extremists not willing to face reality and make concessions or face facts and admit they are wrong, regardless of how awesome their ideology sounds. Of course, the money from special interests juuuuuust might play a part in their unwillingness to budge. *wink*
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
@TadaHanJan I'm not an extremist in anyway, but we actually need is an extreme left wing movement. A seriously socialist movement that is as passionate as the Tea Party. The Tea Part prods the Republicans to go even further and and always demand more. If such a left wing group existed the power would be more balanced.
kris7780 9 months ago
@kris7780 As much as I hate extremists, you are probably right. I have to agree that the right-wing swing in the current political atmosphere is due to the influence of right wing extremists in the Tea Party, and an extreme left wing party would help offset that. However, extreme leftists would be easy to label as "Communists" or "socialists" which is a no-no stigma, even though there's actually nothing inherently bad about it. Those are great theories, they just suck in reality.
TadaHanJan 9 months ago
You could label the Tea Party as fascist, immoral, fat cats. Do a better job of getting the tons of facts about lowering income among the poor and middle class. Turn the health care problem into a full blown crisis. Quote Jesus and point out how immoral greed is. Turn them into Antichrists. Turn Christianity against them, asking what would Jesus really do about wages and health care.
kris7780 9 months ago
Why is this "pretty disappointing" to Cenk? Clinton has said on past occasions that his greatest regret is not having cut Medicare in the 90s.

This isnt about politics you stupid fools, this is about math. We cant afford it, it needs cuts.
People need to understand macro economics before they open their mouths (Cenk)
treysparker 9 months ago
@treysparker I know math and macro economics.... What is your point? Taxes need to be raised on the rich... Do you agree? If not, do you understand math and macro/micro econimcs?!
gekapat 9 months ago
@treysparker This really shouldn't be about math at all, and in fact it isn't. This is class warfare. The upper class feels that they have worked so hard that they alone deserve everything and that it is immoral to take from them though taxation or regulation. This isn't about math it's about morality.
kris7780 9 months ago
Bill is OK, but he DOES need to shut his mouth. The left can't even get a win without him trying to weaken it. There is plenty of time to talk about how we proceed, and everybody already knows that something must be done, but letting the republicans off the hook like that is near treasonous in these "play for keeps" days.We've got the republicans on their heels - they should be kept there. Compromise later from a position of strength.
rocky19421 9 months ago
It's funny how Bill Clinton, a most trusted Democrat, becomes a pariah for telling the truth and for willingness to reach across the aisle. MEDICARE IS UNSUSTAINABLE. That'd due to "the math," not politics. You libs can do math, can't you? You do know the consequences of printing tons of money, right? Inflation? Economic stagnation? (Stagflation, as they call it). Listen to Clinton and FIX our budget crisis, before we end up in a freaking depression.
