I don't think the hippie movement ever died...people just avoided the term in the 80s and 90s. Nowadays I and my friends freely use to the term to describe ourselves, even though the term isn't perfect in its descriptive value. The Bulldozer and colored revolutions were simply organized and funded by US government as well as NGOs in a way to mimic hippie movement and exploit youth rebelliousness. So while these folks believed they are rebels and freedom fighters or as Wyclef Jean put it in regards to Otpor - "some real gangstaz", they were stooges of a covert campaign in imposing interests of some foreign policy.
So they do perceive themselves as hippies but they're not ;-)

"Hippie" is an ideology, sort of centered around peaceful-conciousness...it has nothing to do with fashion, or drugs. Smoking/eating weed doesnt make you a hippie, nor does taking LSD (even though LSD was a big part of the 60's Hippie movement).

If saying politically charged phrases to rally people around an undefined cause is considered activism then more power to you. My biggest issue with anti-war protesters is they have no geo-political arguments about why we should pull out of Iraq ASAP other than saying we need to because it is wrong. Some would say this is in itself the argument (as I have been told before) but you need to explain the immorality and understand the real world implications of throwing Iraq into further chaos.

I fully consider myself a hippy (look at the name) because I think that the heart and soul of the movement was the fact that the system wasn't working so it needed changed...unfortuneately it hasn't changed completely yet but the point is to have hope and to keep trying! I was kicked off the commune in NM. These were old school hippies that did alot of drugs back in the day. The real deal. They liked me, but couldn't deal with my punk rock (direct action) attitude...so they let me set up my own camp alone on their land up in the woods about 10 miles away...hahaha! there were bears up there!!!
