This is a great new start to chatter cloud computing. And right off the back I know that cost goes way down for maintainence. I like the Idea it seems great. Yet with me I always wonder about security. I would not want anyone on my projects posting detail work in a internet like enviornment. I wonder if they could offer this program just for a private business network that is not connected to any external links, and custom taylor it just for small business? Man I love the concept though!

this looks very promising - I'd like to see a tight integration between Facebook and Chatter - to be able to focus on your professional and personal spaces and also effectively deal with the reality that life is one big networking event :)
@kholmes79 No - it's for internal collaboration only. The security and sharing rules require a salesforce log in to the account to make sure only the right people can see certain data, documents, etc.
Clearly, the most adept group of users [students] will benefit from Chatter; as will the universities that seek their interest and participation. Chatter is a huge boost for retention initiatives.
Imagine the power of Chatter for students who can now share; classes, study groups, assignment projects, social interests, etc., in a SECURE environment.
A wonderful tool to engage the student from application through the entire 'student life cycle'
