I just downloaded the "NorthPole" application to use the compass. This is so cool. I can't believe the phone had this and it isn't advertised anywhere or doesn't come with any software to use it! I've had the phone for 2 months and didn't know. Nokia really missed a trick marketing that.

The E72 has a built in compass? No way! How do you use it? In the maps I can't get it to follow the orientation of the phone like you can.

Hi, one question: Is nokia e72 a robust phone? What I mean is jean pockets, trousers, and so on. I do fear that the metal shiny frame on the front (or the back cover) might be ruined.

@seaboo143 Yes but you need a data plan to use the A-GPS to get a quick fix and accurate navigation. Although the GPS alone without A-GPs is ok for occassionnal use

I dont know what happened. just after i installed the new ovi map... i can't get my gps working. if i dont log in to interent it's not gonna work. can anyone help me out?

i have an e52 it says it has gps....bu my question is what do you need to do to connect to an gps satelite ? i pressed 0 ... nothing...no signal i press 5 for compass ...that doesn't work either. p.s. nice phone 5 stars

@spiceonion you dont connect to a satellite. if you put gps on, it just starts listening the signals the satellites send. after it has locked good signals you position will appear on a map. if you dont have maps loaded, you will still see your latitude and longitude.

just ordered an e72, hyped about it...one quick question, dont you have to subscribe with and pay ovi/nokia maps to be able to use gps...or once u load maps into the mobile, can u just use gps without paying anything, using it only causing mobile internet data to reduce?

Hi Boyandreject00, I was wondering if this GPS system works if you are not connected to the internet or data plan from your service provider...

@yoyo11177 If you pre-load the Maps into your device using Nokia Maps loader, you wont have to. But if you havent, you'll need to connect to the internet to download the maps.

Also, A-GPS uses the network to get a lock faster but its only a kb or two.

@boybandreject00 so you eman nokia has been able to use preloaded maps as gps?? i assume that gps sequence will only work in an instance meaning you can preload a map then use it after a day or so in other location... you ahve to start from where you loaded the map. right?

@boybandreject00 hey i had the e71 but it stopped workin. I'm thinkin about buyin back an e71 or the e72. Have u had any problems with it so far? I've been readin reviews on it and they all seem to say the speaker is terrible. Can u honestly gave me ur opinion on it? Thanks alot.

@Avtosh86 Not really. It has a 600Mhz cpu so its pretty much one of the fastest Symbian devices we've used.

Is there a way where you can stop the phone from self orienting itself when you rotate your phone?

@Darkc0w Yes, you can turn off the Compass by going to the Settings menu and choosing "Turn Compass Off". Doing so will stop Ovi Maps from self orienting :)
