The crowds for late-night television shows are mostly made up tourists. Middle-age people aren't going to go crazy for a band they've never heard playing an OK song (off a good album).
problem is with you "cooler than thou" types is your dissing everyone including the audience. i cant even catch a word of what he's saying let alone wtf this songs about!
ive listened to about 10 of their songs and this one is 1 of the weakest..
ThatDevilsBlue & DarwinDiabl0 yeah but the song is call dancing shoes damn it. SO GET DANCIN!!! your right though, and you can hear the response from the crowd...
why do people have expectations for what a crowd is supposed to act like? Last i checked the band is the one performing not the crowd. So, if you don't dance or scream or go "woooo!", then you're a shit crowd? That's rediculous, when i see a band the most i do is bop my head, because i'm actually watching the band and listening to the music rather than trying to out perform them by dancing around like an asshole. Here's a clue: when you're in the crowd- YOU'RE NOT THE PERFORMER.
@DarwinDiabl0 exactly, i don't get why people are constantly commenting on the crowd for this performance...for all we know, they were probably told during the commercial break before the performance to not shout out or act totally crazy and act as if they were in the tv studio during the performance and maintain composure!
wow. that is a textbook shit crowd. like every shit crowd after this one should look back on this crowd and say hey. remember that crowd? i hope this crowd is better.
What you hear on CBS or youtube isn't necessarily what this crowd heard. I think the PA was too quiet and the audience was confused and played it safe.
I think TVOR messed up making this their lead single and not using Halfway Home. this is a great song, but I think it is not nearly as accessible as Halfway Home.
that may be the best performance i've seen on letterman followed by their performance a couple of years ago. and i'm not even a huge fan. who cares about the crowd? they're there to say they saw the letterman show after waiting 10 years for the free tickets. amazing lyricist. i'm impressed.

for fucks sake, that audience has got to be the worst imaginable, i would raving it to this shit, wish i was there, party boy some middle aged men who are all like, THIS GUY GOT HIS BALLZ ALL UP IN MAH GRILLZ
This is an impossible song to pull off successfully with an uninitiated crowd. They are in the presence of greatness but most the guys in the crowd can't really grasp this kind of music. Not that it's THAT FAR OUT THERE or anything, it's just that people normally listen to the musical equivalent of 16year old emo girls deviantart galleries.
that would be awesome. only problem is its very hard to be able to hear each other when you do that. it require and extensive monitoring system nad lots of extension chords, :p
im sure the letterman show took care of the monitors here but i garuntee the sound check took a while.
It's only because they are on a tv show so the sound is a fraction of what it actually sounds if you are there. Trust me, go see them live and you will never say they lack sound again, they are VERY loud live.
@dropkickhuie seriously..if these late night audiences aren't getting to see the latest teen pop star lip-syncing, they're sitting on their hands. They don't fucking deserve to see this band live.
It's amazing that this band isn't very well known considering the amount of praise they've received throughout the years. Dear Science was ranked highly within Top Albums of 2008 lists on a wide variety of magazines, and same with some of their previous records.
@RichardBLongly Hehe. Dave calls just about every guitar-driven band that plays his show a "rock 'n' roll band." These guys seriously need to give a full concert on a fire escape just like this. I would love to see that.
@crescentfreshbret Well that's the way it should be, rock and roll. I'm sick of all this "post-everything funk-punk jazz-metal prog-alt grunge-garage acid-stoner experimental rock" defining everything. It's just rock, man. Most genres name are stupid as hell anyway and shoehorn a band before they've even started playing.
dont you get it, hes talking about the materialism in todays society, and how people dont create their own ideas anymore, you obviously are the exact person Tunde is describing in this song, and have very limited musical taste.
