  • why are a bunch of zombies watching TV on the Radio and I´m not

  • ok in the audience's defense, they were probably sent into a comatose state from the masterpiece they were beholding

  • Did the Letterman show give out free valium samples to the audience before this performance?

  • The crowds for late-night television shows are mostly made up tourists. Middle-age people aren't going to go crazy for a band they've never heard playing an OK song (off a good album).

  • ...Silly crowd. Stop taking pictures and enjoy the song.

  • uh that crowd doesnt deserve to be seeing them!

  • I'm glad they were playing up on the fire escape, because there were a whole lot of zombies down at street level.

  • one of their best songs. its just so hysterical. great,

  • problem is with you "cooler than thou" types is your dissing everyone including the audience. i cant even catch a word of what he's saying let alone wtf this songs about!

ive listened to about 10 of their songs and this one is 1 of the weakest..

  • his name is Gerrard Smith

  • @Marz2605 No, his name is Gerard Smith. Just like midgysamurai15 spelled it.

  • @Castexification RIP Gezza Smith

  • R.I.P Gerard Smith, thank you for the music.

  • Crowd Fail. It was like TV on the Radio was opening for Steely Dan.

  • @sbutros wtf steely dan are good so their fans are good too by assumption. they know good music.

  • @sbutros Dude, why Steely Dan? If you're going to aimlessly insult bands, choose one that isn't talented.

  • ha ha ha this is sooooo funny. the nerdiest audience ever; what a contradiction

  • Average age of crowd member: 48 years old

  • Thats such a cool stage

  • pinches aguados!

    obvio el publico

  • Damn my favorite band gets a tv appearance and they choose the worst song on their best album. smh

  • ThatDevilsBlue & DarwinDiabl0 yeah but the song is call dancing shoes damn it. SO GET DANCIN!!! your right though, and you can hear the response from the crowd...

  • Zombie outbreak !

  • @melmes03 he has really bad stage fright so he cant look at the crowd haha

  • dude the horn section is rockin it!

  • What is the DEAL with the bassist?

  • why do people have expectations for what a crowd is supposed to act like? Last i checked the band is the one performing not the crowd. So, if you don't dance or scream or go "woooo!", then you're a shit crowd? That's rediculous, when i see a band the most i do is bop my head, because i'm actually watching the band and listening to the music rather than trying to out perform them by dancing around like an asshole. Here's a clue: when you're in the crowd- YOU'RE NOT THE PERFORMER.

  • @DarwinDiabl0 exactly, i don't get why people are constantly commenting on the crowd for this performance...for all we know, they were probably told during the commercial break before the performance to not shout out or act totally crazy and act as if they were in the tv studio during the performance and maintain composure!

  • wow. that is a textbook shit crowd. like every shit crowd after this one should look back on this crowd and say hey. remember that crowd? i hope this crowd is better.

  • thats nice that they put on a concert for the deaf

  • @tasteymuffins194 Ohh, your comment makes me laugh so hard XD

  • Yeah, I'll agree that I'm not sure this was the greatest choice for Letterman. It's a great song, but it isn't particularly accessible.

  • dude i totally want the lead guitarists job and play what he plays all day

  • Comment removed

  • Audience you can suck it. I would destroy anyone of you to have been there.

  • the crowd is to busy filming the concert to actually enjoy it, what a waste

  • What you hear on CBS or youtube isn't necessarily what this crowd heard. I think the PA was too quiet and the audience was confused and played it safe.

  • I think TVOR messed up making this their lead single and not using Halfway Home. this is a great song, but I think it is not nearly as accessible as Halfway Home.

  • Fantastic. Who needs studio albums? Every one of their albums should be live recordings. :D

  • what a lame ass crowd....they're asleep at the wheel. it's like he's playing for a crowd of zombies.

  • When they played this song on Colbert it was much heavier...I honestly think that version was better.

  • When they played this song on Colbert it was much heavier...I honestly think that version was better.

  • maybe the crowd is so shocked, that they are speechless, have you ever thought of that? haha

  • @PressThisName Nah, they're just numb and can't wait to get to the newspaper stand.

  • He plays a Synthesizer?

  • what a weird setup. awesome somg!

  • that may be the best performance i've seen on letterman followed by their performance a couple of years ago. and i'm not even a huge fan. who cares about the crowd? they're there to say they saw the letterman show after waiting 10 years for the free tickets. amazing lyricist. i'm impressed.

  • this is my fav. tv on radio track..... i really love this band.. like they kinna try to imitate radiohead but they hav their own cult..... in my mind im drowning butterflies.....

  • for fucks sake, that audience has got to be the worst imaginable, i would raving it to this shit, wish i was there, party boy some middle aged men who are all like, THIS GUY GOT HIS BALLZ ALL UP IN MAH GRILLZ

  • Most of the audience are either:

    a) Dying old kooks that would prefer to hear boring contemporary music like John Mayer or something

    b) ADD possessed 20-40 year olds who would prefer to hear pop music with nothing more than a catchy chorus

  • This is an impossible song to pull off successfully with an uninitiated crowd. They are in the presence of greatness but most the guys in the crowd can't really grasp this kind of music. Not that it's THAT FAR OUT THERE or anything, it's just that people normally listen to the musical equivalent of 16year old emo girls deviantart galleries.

  • gay crowd

  • wow, cant believe theyre on letterman. tv on the radio is way too under rated. the audience doesnt know how good they have it.

  • "In my mind i'm drowning butterflies, broken dreams and alibis... that's fiiine!!"

god i love TV on the radio.

  • Just to echo what's already been said...horrible crowd! Great performance.

  • god. Could the crowd have been any lamer? This song is made to be energetic to and they're just standing there. I love this song.

  • They are like the indie version of Bad Brains..

  • he's a what? HE'S A WHAT?!

  • Hes a news paper man!

  • dude this is fucking kool i wish i was there should tour the uk when they get back togeher!

  • bought a sweater for his weimaraner too.

    funny stuff

  • Wow that crowd sucked. When I saw them in Dallas the crowd went crazy for every song. They deserve to be a lot more famous than they are.

  • u bet this crowd sucked i would kill my dog to be at their place and jump like a fuckin crazy kangoroo

  • it shoulda been in the bx or brklyn the crowd would have been less geriatric and gone nuts.

  • Wish more bands would play in different positions. Like on top of skyscrapers or something.

  • that would be awesome. only problem is its very hard to be able to hear each other when you do that. it require and extensive monitoring system nad lots of extension chords, :p

im sure the letterman show took care of the monitors here but i garuntee the sound check took a while.

  • how did the crowd NOT get pumped up with this amazing performance?!

  • dude ur right... the crowd sucked.

  • It's only because they are on a tv show so the sound is a fraction of what it actually sounds if you are there. Trust me, go see them live and you will never say they lack sound again, they are VERY loud live.

  • i was completely blown away when i saw them live. they were amazing!

  • ON A FIRE ESCAPE!!! AWESOME!!!

  • 0:53, i think the synth player makes an error.

who cares because Tv on the Radio is awesome. that crowd though is completely dead.

  • Its the letterman show....

  • ...true.

  • tv on the radio....

    one of my favourite bands

    and great performance!

  • Great band, TERRIBLE crowd.

  • @dropkickhuie seriously..if these late night audiences aren't getting to see the latest teen pop star lip-syncing, they're sitting on their hands. They don't fucking deserve to see this band live.

  • @dropkickhuie

They're too hip to dance around.

  • @dropkickhuie that crowd just has no clue .. maybe they were just in awe

  • @dropkickhuie your right:(die sind ziemlich geil schade das es dass publikum verpasst hat

  • yeah you gotta give them time in my opinion but i think there

    just

    amazing

    B\

  • I can not believe i had not hear'd these before.

Amazing, just goe's to show real talent is overshadowed.

    10/10.

    A new fan.

  • It's amazing that this band isn't very well known considering the amount of praise they've received throughout the years. Dear Science was ranked highly within Top Albums of 2008 lists on a wide variety of magazines, and same with some of their previous records.

  • I totally agree... i wouldn't be shocked if the reason is because most of the members are black, don't see too many of them playing indie songs.

  • they are awsome !

  • I love it how jay leno is like, this rock band and uhh dear science and uhh this is tv on the radio, lol his name isn't even jay leno

  • david letterman not jay leno jsyk

  • dave is silly. i like how he calls them a rock n roll band too. B\

  • @RichardBLongly Hehe. Dave calls just about every guitar-driven band that plays his show a "rock 'n' roll band." These guys seriously need to give a full concert on a fire escape just like this. I would love to see that.

  • @crescentfreshbret Well that's the way it should be, rock and roll. I'm sick of all this "post-everything funk-punk jazz-metal prog-alt grunge-garage acid-stoner experimental rock" defining everything. It's just rock, man. Most genres name are stupid as hell anyway and shoehorn a band before they've even started playing.

  • best band around atm!

  • Moooooooove people...mooooooooove..

  • now THATS a great performance.

  • thats a pretty hot baritone saxophonist.

  • thats a midi dumbass

  • i'm pretty sure that's a baritone saxophone.

  • Incredible performance.

  • great sound quality

  • dont you get it, hes talking about the materialism in todays society, and how people dont create their own ideas anymore, you obviously are the exact person Tunde is describing in this song, and have very limited musical taste.

  • legendary burn.................poor bistekconpapas

  • WOO, you go girl

  • @inski94 lol

  • I am guessing you are in Jr. High. If I am wrong, please forgive me, but I am pretty sure I am right.

  • i'm assuming they just simply don't get it.

  • i agree, they look like they are not enjoying it! :(

  • oh my god..the audience are not even moving..like..standing stilla t a tv on the radio show..and the song is call dancing choose..but i guess they choose not..sniffsniff..saddness..boohoo to cold audience peeps!

  • Watch their performance on the Colbert Report. Amazing!

  • I saw em on Friday. Their album stuff doesn't even begin to approach the ferocity they approach their live work. The thing is, at the Colbert Reoprt and the show I went to, there were buckets of audience energy as well as band energy, wheras the audience here is giving absolutely nothing back.

  • wawawawawawawa

that's the most incredible thing I've ever seen.

  • The audience sucks.....

  • a white Letterman crowd mostly rednecks touring NYC - what would you expect...? they were probably in shock when TV on the Radio started rapping

  • really what a TERRIBLE crowd there fuckin amazing and everyones silent

  • Pure genius! Seeing them live tonight, so excited.

  • fucking GREAT

    amazing album, everone get it.

  • HAHAHAHA FROZEN IN AWE?

Come on, great performance but most of those people want generic guitar emo riffs, not Tv on the Radio

  • haha..it's like singing to mannequins

  • Angry young mannequins?

  • TV on the Radio = sex.

  • yeah, woohoo! bonnaroo!!!

  • fuck that crowd

  • i want to perform like that! that'd be sick to perform on a fire escape

  • This is the definition of AWE. This crowd is just frozen in awe. FROZEN IN AWE. YES. FROZEN IN AWE. Release the drones and set them free so they can eat their waffles with strawberries for breakfast.

  • coolest place ever played on a latenight tv show. did they get special permits to block up a fire escape?

    so cool

  • this is awesome!! I love TVOTR and where they are performing at haha its great!

  • The setup for this was the best. I love the isolation on the fire escape.

    One word.....Bonnaroo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This crowd makes me so fucking mad.

  • lol at all the old people

"is this what young people call rap??"

  • this crowd is an embarrassment :S

such a great performance put to such a waste tssk. love the stage :P

  • i like this song faster better

  • I'd like to assume the crowd is staring in amazement but sadly i know they just weren't ready for a band like this. sux to be them I woulda been dancin' all over the place

  • great band and song but a bad audience

  • this band beats ass

  • is that a good thing? im confused by your ghetto slang there bud. haha

  • lame

  • I still don't understand what the fuck you're saying.

  • this band is so awesome

  • It's a little off... it seems like they were nervous and sped up the tempo...

but I do agree with everyone, the audience sucks. it's like theyre performing at a retirement home..

  • Retirement Home, XD

    fucking priceless.

  • ahhh!!! what a bad ass way to play a gig. like all spread out over what looks like a fire escape! i love it ! and my fav song off the new album :)

  • This is a great fucking tune, WTF are you guys talking about? Go back to your top ten shit, and leave the good music for the rest of us....

  • lmao , haters go back to chart music

    these rule !

but tbh not a very cool crowd !

  • this just isnt the crowd for tv on the radio.. i see a lot of gray hairs..lol

  • It sounds best with earphones... lots of cool sounds get lost in live performances... this song is great for a slam dance where everyone is wearing disposable headphones like those you get on the airplanes...

  • Lacked the energy of their other Letterman performance.

  • you can't blame them, look at the audience. a bunch of sheep.

  • one of the coolest locations/stages i´ve seen

  • letterman knows how to get good bands. reminds me of audioslave "gasoline" performing above the street on the entrance to his studio.

  • haha yes the crowd is pretty ungrateful. And I'm surprised that David didn't take the time to read two words before this portion of the show ran.

  • I love David Letterman had to read the album title to be sure that was actually what it was named. His face when he said "Dear Science" was priceless.

  • it's because the title has a comma, pretty confusing..

  • that crowd lol

  • Sweet.

  • Dave Sitek's just effortlessly badass.

  • this is cool, up there with the Beastie Boys performance on Letterman in '04

  • I SECOND THAT MOTION!

  • "Foam-injected Axl Rose"

    Best. Line. Ever.

  • Great performance of an absolutely phenomenal song (and album for that matter). Finally, someone is creating relevant new music!!!!

  • Spettacolo *___*

  • Yeah, the crowd seemed a bit static and unengaged. When they did Wolf Like Me on Letterman, now THAT was a performance.

  • I'm pretty sure TVOTR were scheduled to appear earlier that week, but the show ran long and they were re-scheduled later in the week, so maybe this crowd didn't sign up to see them in the first place? I don't know how that works. If I was there I'd be movin', lemme tell ya.

  • plus most of 'em look pretty old

  • Precisely. Doesn't help matters.

  • Yes they were. I was looking forward to seeing them perform only to see 35 minutes of Clinton trying to shift his parties housing fuck ups during his presidency to the republican party take up time. Personally I hate both parties, but damn was he an incompetent douche bag have some accountability for crying out loud, hypocrite.

  • omg... could the crowd be anymore stiff?? geez... do they not know how to move a bit?

  • great performance

    the album's awesome

well done tv on the radio

  • the wolf like me performance remains the best late night performance ive ever seen, but this is still good.

the horns sounded great. i wish they had played on the regular stage tho. the energy seems a little lost with them all separate like that.

  • Yea, it seemed a lot toned down, all separate like that. Cool concept though.

  • that was awesome

dear science is an amazing album

    thanks for posting this
