One thing to keep an eye are those unfunded liabilities, like social security, it puts the theoretical US debt over 100 trillion dollars.

Of course that type of debt is unpayable, and when you factor the US's national debt interest payment at 700 bllion last year, it's easy to conclude that it's a joke and isn't intended to be payed back.
