Just returned from Corniglia, beautiful place. This is hiking paradise and Corniglia is perfectly located for it in the centre of the villages of the Cinque Terre. The walks are all pretty testing but well worth it when you get to the top. We went 10-15th October and the temperature was still 27-29 degrees Celcius in the sun, about 23 in the shade, that's pretty amazing for that time of year and as others have said the sun doesn't burn you like elsewhere.
I have just been there a few weeks ago too, and remember an amazing weather. but as far as i know right now cinque terre had a big problem with floods and people have died :( I also heard that it ruined monterosso completely.
What I especially liked about Cinque Terre was the light. My skin didn't immediately feel like it was burning, like it does on the East Coast of the USA.
I was lucky enough to visit a few of the 5 villages a few years back, we walked through the towns and hiked through the hills, it was beautiful.
One day back home, I told a lady that I visited Cinque Terre and hiked between the towns. She told me "we took a speedboat from town to town", her loss... If you haven't been, it's well worth it.
What a beautiful place! The people seem so friendly, and that scenic vista of the ocean is gorgeous. I'd love to try those local wines. Rick, did you try out the cliff diving yourself? Looks scary, but fun!
thank you for posting this. one of my favorite epis. i just was it on tv recently. i am glad to find it here. i cannot afford to buy the DVDs at this time - and anyway, i would rather use the money to visit - if i had any. :(
anyone out there live in one of the Cinque Terre? I would do chores in exchange for a visit. :)
