I just bought one of these and waiting for it to be delivered, I know that this router requires an update for it to operate, as the version it comes with supposedly doesn't allow some adsl services and is problematic. Something like that, wasn't sure if I was going to use the newest or go back one version.
@leewatcher I use this router and its the best i had so far and is very popular its been around for years, only problem with is if your house is hit with power surge the lan and wireless can stop working so i would plug it into a board with surge protection but u can get a replacement asap if need be
this router is great but not as the NETGEAR N750 wndr4000
best router i have ever used its better than the linksys e4200 and the D-link xtreme n gaming and the D-link duo media.. :) try it its 100$ but its the best!!
@Alooy10q8 Being as the wndr4000 doesn't have an ADSL2+ modem then its not a comparable product. And the reviews for it like all Netgear routers recently are not too good. Netgear need to get their act together as people like me who have always used them before because they were the best are now looking elsewhere.
@PCWizard7 Thanks for you response, have you managed to set it up the VPN yet, if so what client software are you using on your remote PC and are you using encryption to protect your VPN connection?
@ecotts Assuming you are using Windows you can just use the built in VPN software client. Go to Network Connections and choose the option to connect to a VPN network (i cant remember the exact name of the options). Follow the wizard to set it up. Windows Help has a guide.
On Ubuntu Linux, make sure you have PPTP client installed, then just set up the VPN in Network Manager.
Yes, it's encrypted, however very important to have a strong password.
@napes5simon speed test aren't 100% accurate always check the modem stats to see the tree syn speed and checking from the iphone will only shows the full bandwitch speed of the connection of the iphone.
PC will show a better speed because they are 1 Gbs speed LAN cards
@theman7431 I can suggest a router only that has 5Ghz but you find only desktops support 5 Ghz but i think you found that all your need is Wireless N this ADSL2+ Router and install wireless N Cards in your devices that need it because wireless N has better coverage
Is the most up to date firmware for this router stable?
