The numbering system of chords and their scale degrees is so much more profitable...if one knows for example the first chord in this vid(Cmin7) is built from the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th tones of the natural minor scale, u can take that and transpose it to any of the 12 keys as oppose to just knowing the Cmin7 because people who know the number system teach u by the letters keeping u in a box.
chords are names from the bass up. In following that :
Chord 1 is C min 7
Chord 2 is G13 (the left hand is 1,5,7. the A is the 9th, the C is the 11th, the E is the 13th and the G is the root. The interesting thing is that most of the chords are formed by 1,5,7 in the LH and the min7 chord one whole step higher in the RH . Thus you can form these chords on any 1,5,7. For example with a LH of D,A,C my RH could be E,G,B, D , a D13 chord. That opens the door to explore chords.
to me , it doesn't matter where the progression came from. I have used progressions from contemporary Broadway songs, such as Legally Blonde-the musical. It is more important where you can use them. God blessed me to have a music theory degree but anybody who knows something can teach whether they are degreed or not. Very nice progressions. I will find a place to use it.
I'm just trying to spell them out in a way that'd be easy to analyze harmonically. This is a great progression. Anyone feel free to correct these if you're up on your jazz theory (I'm not lol)
This is a very beautiful sound. It would be easier for a lot of people if you wrote out the name of the chord. Foe example G13 or D7b9. Also other then showing off, when could you use this. It would be helpful to incorporate some of these chords in popular songs whether Christian or secular. They become more practical that way because people can use them for progressions and transition and really make good use of these chords. But they are some amazing chords and thanks for sharing them with us.
a full minor 7th chord.) D is the third note of the Bb chord, and flatted it will make a minor triad, Bb minor. When you use that C#(augmented 2nd of Bb), you're instead using the Root, second, and fifth, which isn't a triad and is confusing. Also occurs at 1:55; the right hand should be spelled B-D#-F-A#, as each are thirds apart (count them: B (C) D (E) F (G) A = BDFA) I can't explain the reasons why within the scope of this message, but I just thought I'd bring it to attention.
great progression! I always find myself playing these types of chords whenever I play piano. I can't get enough of the trippy sound. The only thing that I didn't like was that many of your chords were spelled wrong. Namely, mixing flats and sharps in the same chord as in 1:22. I'm not assuming you have a music theory degree, but the notes could be spelled more clearly. For instance, the C# in the right hand should instead be Db, as the Bb minor triad is Bb-Db-F (and then Ab to make (continued)
Awesome! I toured with Bob James many years ago as his guitarist and I'm loving these vids! Thanks! :^/
