do u know what hurts the enviroment? its the freakin private planes all these rich ppl have, u never hear them say anything about that do you? it takes like 100,000's of cars to equal one trip from a plane, its a bunch of bs!

Let's look at this issue of vehicle emissions with some clarity. When the end result of operating the existing cars, trucks, etc. is poisonous atmosphere (green house gas is irrelevant), it should occur to everyone that we should have vehicles that don't put poison into the air we breathe. This has been possible for at least 30 years. However, the petroleum industry (all poisonous products) would lose its' profits while slowly poisoning humankind. Figure the rest out for yourself.

Green, green, green. It's the new buzzword of the secular Left. A new sort of "religion"...you can tell by how hysterical many environmentalists get when you challenge them.

There's a new term out there called "greenwashing". Sorta like whitewashing where you take some bullshit policy and just afix a "green" label to it...thereby making it unchallengable.

It is not about the gas mileage or better cars, it is about getting Al Gores plan in place to start charging for carbon. Basically, Obama will be creating a business out of nothing and making billions in tax revenue off the backs of the American consumer. I am amazed that they don't charge us a rain forest fee for the oxygen we inhale. Everyone needs to look past the cover story and look at the policies being placed in front of you.

Laughhardriot, inefficient vehicles needlessly pollute the air that we ALL breathe, keep us ALL dependent on unstable foreign sources and their fragile governments, and deplete a nonrenewable resource that we ALL use, increasing demand and driving the cost up for ALL of us. As long as you live with other people, there will be laws that are enacted for the common good that citizens are subject to. That's why.

If increasing vehicle mpg was such a simple pain-free exercise it would have been done long ago. The problem is that it comes with tradeoffs:

-further reduction of american made autos as the Big 3 can't compete on small fuel efficient cars

-higher costs for american car buyers

-another step toward socialism as the govt delves even deeper into mandating what should be built...and what we must buy

Of course, Obama doesn't mention any of this.

Who do these people think they are? Why does the government have the right to tell me what gas mileage my car has to get?  This is so sick and wrong. No wonder why so many companies are moving from the U.S. and taking jobs with them. I'm getting sick of my own government.
