How will all the nuts, who imagine everything is a conspiracy, survive w/o Glenn Beck? I first saw this story on NHK (Japanese news), which is far more reliable than US news media, soon after it happened. In that huge mass of floating rubble, including houses & shops, is it so difficult to believe that enough of it to sustain a medium size dog might be edible? And what is this BS about Japanese eating dogs & cats? I've lived in Japan for 25 years, and never heard of a single case.
This is all a set up...a dog w/out food and water will not look that good. Someone has contrived a feel good story to boost everyones morals...not that in its self is bad but know that it is not a real story!

I agree! No dog that has been out like that for 3 weeks without food (he may have been able to drink rainwater) would look that good. He is well fed and looks completely healthy. His ribs would be showing and he would look a lot more stressed than this dog too. This is not real.

Well, if you think about this logically, the amount of money they spent on the helicopter fuel and on the rescuer employees could have gone towards rebuilding Japan, feeding Japan's homeless who are probably in even more dire straits after this tsunami, healthcare for someone who is dying somewhere, etc. To say that there is not one human being on the entire face of this planet whose life would be saved if we had directed those resources towards them instead of the dog would be disingenuous.

I don't think the helicopter fuel and other resources were spent specifically to search for canine survivors. I think they were primarily hoping to find human survivors. Since they found no humans, I certainly don't see a problem picking up any non-human survivors they did find, especially since they were already there. If they HAD found humans, and left them to rescue a dog instead, I would understand your point.

Japan imported 5 tons of dog meat from China in 2008 and that's increased from 2003 figure of 3 tons. Most of that's sold to ethnic Korean restaurant owners but anyone can freely walk in and order from menus. They advertise in Japanese and menus written in Japanese. If there're some segments of populations eating dog meat in Japan then it's not wrong to say Japanese do eat dogs.

There were missing dogs when vietnamese refugees arrived in Oregon beach. Hawaii almost made dog meat illegal after someone selling the meat commercially. (it's legal in 41 states of US)

Asahi News says this dog is returned to the owner. A lady's home was sweep away by Tsunami and she is living at evacuation center now. She saw the news that the dog was rescued in the sea and she thought the dog looks very similar to lady's one so asked the coast guard by email with attached photo and the coast guard and she confirmed the dog is lady's one eventually The dog's name is "BAN" He is FINE right now!!

25,000 blankets have already been sent frm INDIA as an immediate measure. Search and rescue teams along with relief material are also to be sent. Indian Navy is also on standby to send its ships to Japan as part of relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Well, I'm not Korean, I'm Vietnamese. In my country people eat dog meat and even cat meat, and I think it's not a bad thing. Just like some people say Pigeon is the symbol of Peace but they eat Pigeon all over the world. If that is not an endangered animal (except human, of course!), there are nothing bad to eat them.
