Actually this song has no drug connotation at all. John Fogerty actually wrote the song for his son, Josh. When he was asked about it, he said he was inspired by the Dr. Suess book "And I Think I Saw it on Mulberry Street". He used to sing it for his son and he would imagine a parade passing by him. I had returned from Vietnam in July 1970 (didn't extend) and finished my Army life at Ft. Gordon, Georgia. We use to eat @ Pedro's Tacos in Augusta (actually some good Mexican food) ~~ I must have played this recording a million times on the jupebox while drinking COLD draft Bud. Funny that we never recall or remember the bad times in a place like Vietnam but the fun times always come rolling back into our memories. Maybe it's just a way of protecting ourselves?
