He's one of my favourite all time violinists. He plays with emotion and movement. My friends laugh when I do, but hey, makes you liek teh song, and makes the emotion in the song stand out too. I'm so grateful to have a teacher who pushes for that :)
Damn, Paganini was a madman, wasn't he? For kicks, try listening to Eliot Fisk's CD. He transposes all 24 Capricci for the guitar. Not the most beautiful thing you've ever heard, but one of the most amazing feats!
Mmmmm... I have seen this movie and I really like it even when the critic totally destroyed it. It is impossible for me to disrespect the passion of Kinski in this picture (not his best by any means, though)
hmm you think it's their religion that makes them play so well? I would say they're really talented and worked very hard, no matter if they are Jewish or Christian or whatever....
I meant jewish by race. But I think neither race nor religion makes someone good. I'm an electric bassist, and people say I'm amazing but it's because I'm black, it is kind of annoying cause it undermines the fact that' I've practiced every single day I've got the instrument, with less than 5 exceptions. But yeah I'm atheist, don't worry. But yeah Kremer is amazing, and so is Heifetz and Menuhin and Perlman, but it's of course because they've practiced.
RE the tuning, I'm pretty sure from my research that Paganini tuned his violin a semitone higher than other people in order to give extra brightness to the sound. Of course he didn't perform these Caprices in public, but when he played his concertos, for example, the orchestra played a semitone lower (e.g. the famous Concerto No.1 in D is actually written for the orchestra in E Flat whilst he played 'in D major') Awesome playing by the way! (Oh, and it has NOT been sped up!)
sounds exactly a semitone higher. That first "E-flat" exactly matches the E-natural on Noteworthy Composer. I don't think Noteworthy could be off-tune.
That is truly ridiculous playing. I can't imagine Paganini could possibly have been better. Disappointing that the piece is abreviated. As for the movie, its really boring. Not even a "B" movie. its worse. I have seen it however in English.
speechless

the octaves in the mid part are, very fast, and everything in tune though...is hard to play like this

sure it's been sped up? I do hope so... however, Paganini himself never played the capricci in public...

This was a great performance, though it's sped up so much that it's over a whole tone higher than A=440 HZ.

Best performance of No. 17, probably better than Paganini himself

the title in the movie is "Spring Symphony", that might be a better search

This movie is very cool, you can see Liszt trying to make fingering like on a piano. Which etudes are these, 17 & 18?
