  • I'm wondering if the altered perception they experienced is a form of the same experience that people have when on other psychedelics. The only caveat being a sense of the same frame of mind every time experienced on these substances. I'm sure the one guy got a sense of non-dualism, but perceived in a more primitive state of mind. As if it suppressed the ability for him to think critically, or form a clear picture of things by interrupting cognition.

  • Once they filming was completed, all of the scientists smoke a large cone of salvia, and tripped balls. The End.

  • oh for God's sake why don't these 'talking heads' just take some Salvia themselves and then sit down and have a relevant discussion! 'Its just a somewhat different way of seeing things' - yeah, try it and see just how different you big bore ;-}

  • @philiporl And he is not even right. He should study quantum physics an M-theory and he will suddenly see that he was wrong all his life and the description from the percieved reality in the salvia experience fits better with the scientific reality.

  • jon jus dont wanna believe ish,,lol

  • salvia blocks dat conditioning and opens u infinitly.

  • i've smoked salvia and the psychologist seems to have a better grasp on what one can experience on salvia than the pharmacologist. i don't understand why the latter seems so against it; however, arguing over something neither has experienced seems pointless to me. it would be much easier on both sides if they both just smoked the bubbler. it looks like a matter of a more holistic perspective vs. a strictly empirical worldview.

  • Fistfight! Fistfight! Wooh! Wooh!

  • I think the 2 doctors need to try salvia and experience rather than argue a point they don't fully understand

  • lol @ the guy in the vid saying "we need to look at it from risks vs benefits" and then he goes on to downplay the benefits while not even talking about risks. He calls it a toxin without even measuring any sort of physical harm that was done. That's what you call bias, not science.

  • if anyone out there has taken magic mushrooms, knows well of the laughter too the piont of stomach pains if your on a good trip, and the fear also, depending on the enviorment yeah!!

  • the guy says that DMT (the substance in the plant) is a toxin that is a threat to the normal function of the brain. Then how come this "toxin" is in his brain and body ! and in all living being on earth. Funny how the brain works esspecially his!

  • the guy with the long and short hair seem to get allong pretty well!! They should start a Acid rock band like the doors!!

  • " if your normal and youe not taking the drug you,r missing something and the,s more out there , no there isnt" Perfect candidate for taking DMT to prove him wrong if you ask me.

  • I want an English guy in a suit to be there when I take Salvia.

  • @zombee1 fuckin' aced it.

  • The guy that calls salvia a poison is remarkably idiotic and a fool of the highest order. He needs to shut his ignorant mouth and try the salvia.

  • i want one of the researchers to take it!

  • I've always remembered this part.. 1:56 The pharmacologist is getting very uncomfortable with his idea of the universe being shaken up, and then lovely lovely Daniel Siebert addresses that part of him so very nicely. Makes my heart sing a bit.

  • I find salvia uncomfortable and at times terrifying.

  • @tremulent depends on the person. my best friend hates it, but I love it. apparently salvia is one of those things that either produce really good effects or really bad. Plus your state of mind has a lot to do with it. I almost put myself in a great state before I do it. Water pipe. dark room wit a movie on. incense burning. calm state of mind. hence one of the reasons why I always had a great experience. ya know.

  • Unfortunately the man (the pharmacologist) who "wouldn't" take it himself is the man who needs it the most. A very rigid close minded person. That's what institutions reduce people to. If he took 1 hit of salvia it would crumble what he thought was his firm and solid world before his very eyes. He will have realized his whole entire existence was fake and ignorant.

  • This sucks! They're debating about nothing here. None of these guys had enough Salvia to get the full experience. The experience I had on salvia is much more powerful than those guys. I went into another dimension. This is not scientific at all, they should have increase the dose to get the full effect. Sorry to say this but his documentary is totally worthless.

  • what a ignorant fuck look it up stoopid lol try an encyclopedia it's non-toxic for fucks sake he tried comparing it to alcohol what a dumb ass.

  • Is there an asshole on every episode. I bet they invite these people to play the part of the skeptic who can't see what's right in front of him. "A poison", he says. They just smoked and ate it, on top of that woke up feeling even better the next day. Just because you wouldn't take something doesn't mean you should make it so no one else can. Afraid of people seeing other places, is what all these prohibiters seem to show.

  • "Its a toxin" - what a subjective remark! I love it when people who hold high positions of stature make shit up because they feel threatened, and people just eat it up! At least this video makes it clear that Salvia is not harmful or additive and needs to be seriously investigated as a medicine.

  • i bet the guy that was saying he wouldnt take it because he doesnt think it has benefits, i bet he has drank alcohol before, im willing to bet

  • I wonder what the pharmacologist thinks about the phrase: "if you put your mind to it, you can do anything." I don't know one person that disagrees with this. For that reason, WE CREATE REALITY! The psychologist is right!!!!

  • These idiots need to stop speculating on the implications of salvia d on human perception until they try it for themselves! That is the only way to get a grasp of what salvia really can do.

  • why did the one doctor say salvia is toxic? I don't believe to this day any salvia toxicity has been made known.

  • that scientist acts like he knows it all talking about he wasn't hallucinating he didn't experience it he can't talk....if you want results don't get guinea pigs to do it try it your damn self! What other way could give you more insight then taking it yourself? Then you would officially know instead of doing studies with people

  • @mattdogg65 I'm shocked that a research doctor is apparently incapable of seeing a very simple concept. That is the potential benefit of interpreting things differently. More than anyone, that doctor should know that people get stuck on the ANYTHING. Break ups, how their friends treat them, etc. How can he not see that temporary change in perception could potentially be helpful? I don't get it.

  • People go YEARS regirgitating the same mental crap over again, still mad about what happened to them in high school. Until hopefully one day they realize, oh shit, there's more to life than I thought, or at least things aren't as they appear, they only appear to be a certain way from a certain perspective. That one doctor doesn't know this realization applies not only to visual perceptions, but to every aspect of experience, and a change of bodily perception can bring about this realization

  • @fnog9 yea I know idk man don't ask me

  • Hey, If you like Salvia Divinorum you should search for " Salvia Divinorum Distribution Project " on here or google to get a free cutting

    cya

  • Toxin? too much aspirin is a toxin, some water is toxin depending on what the surrounding areas have, foundries, chemical dumps, etc/// I would like to know exactly what he believes the qualifier for a toxin is.There's just too much needing to put labels on everything along with calling something good or bad. Bottom line it's all "experiences"

  • Fucking psychologist dick!

Just because you're new to this universe, don't pester experienced souls with it.

  • what we have here, is a toxic. john, you are a toxic. its making me sick, nausic, and I have appearently laughing attacks to listen to your wannaberational position.

  • his comment did give me an idea though... I dont think the hallucigen effect of these mushrooms and plants is meant soley for human consumption... I mean that Im sure its meant for animals too, and it would be fascinating to study the creatures which would ingest this plant in nature.

  • interesting approach to the topic, neuroparadise. the problem would be the liver for most animals. when a cat for example would consume thc, it wouldnt be able to stop the high, it would constantly run through different levels of highs and downs. dogs become addicted for lifetime. but indeed, it would be interesting to look into actual nature. maybe snails are attracted and transport their spores by the "bad smell" but the possibilities of highs.. *wonders* do snails and such get high anyway ?

  • yes and for all we know their earthly shape may be vastly more primitive than their astral soul! ive wondered this about toads, the name toadstool means they must be linked to mushrooms. Also flying insects or bees etc might get high from the nectar? just a thought.

  • Well that's a good observation because it's a fact that bees love getting off on rotting apples and fruit. (Alcohol) They love it so much they stop working and eventually get stung to death by the other bees. Now the significance of that. That could suggest (to drug lovers) that drugs free the soul from work and the pursuit of survival, and turn the person to persue happiness and freedom. The fact a simple bee can free itself from it's instincts in remarkable if thought about.

  • John, don't be such a downer.

  • why do these guys (scientists) jst sit there and ask loads of questions. why dont they jst fukn try it themselvs . they can never truly give a perfect discription this way. god damn cowards.

  • i literally smoked weed everyday and eventually scared the shit out of me lol these are meant as thinking tools dont abuse them or they'll abuse you

  • All of these people need to subject themselves to salvia instead of sitting around a table gazing at the situation through a looking glass. Try it yourselves you pussies!

  • i'll agree with doc 'tim''

  • ... John, lighten up bro, contradictions in your thought patterns, perhaps you need to subject yourself to the experiment instead of just being a watcher? ;) - Tim, good to see your open and I tend to agree with what your saying.

  • didnt even see your comment i really agree to to yours dAlen, i hope''john'' reads this haha

  • People who advocate the use of mind altering substances often describe these substances as a means to open your eyes, to open your mind, and so forth. And to those who have nightmares or horrific experiences waht do they say?

So far I have not heard anyone give a detailed account of Salvia's negative side effects. They are glossed over: harming yourself, blackouts, foing things you don't remember, etc. Why is that? Down playing the bad side so it isn't illegalized?

  • there are no psychical side-affect found .. yet.

However, the mental side-affects list is long.

Psychosis, severe depressions, the ability to function in the everyday life, and so on.

  • I've heard people who love using this stuff state there are dangers such as harming yourself, blacking out, doing things you have no memory of, etc. But those people will not go into detail about those things. To me that shows they are glossing over the dangers so government won't ban this too.

  • I think you want it banned, im happy they gloss it over then because then the gov. would just put one more thing on there list of stuff they dont want people to put into there own body.

  • The drug wars are and have failed. Everyone who wants drugs can get it only thing the drug war does is make it easy for people under 21 or 18 to get it. I think they should make all drugs legal even herion and meth dont get me wrong I hate heroin and meth but if its legal they will OD faster or keep them illegal and death penalty them. The government knows about it but wont criminalize it like they used too because Salvia is not dangerous when used with a responsibly. Why do u hate sally?

  • these guys are so curious about the herb

but what better way to learn about something then experiencing it. stop sitting around talking about the plant and just try it.

  • That guy's a fucking bugger >:(

  • that guys a dick

  • the funny thing is that they argue what salvia really is and if it has possitive or negative effect on you BUT they never tried salvia themselves. It's jut like you wanted to speak about a painter, but you never saw his paitings....

  • @DarthHuru Indeed. These individuals can read as many books as they like and acquire as many degrees as they wish but they will never know what benefits Salvia holds until they experience her for themselves.

Salvia is a healing plant and a gift to humanity and is to be respected. If you don't respect Salvia, she will make your experience one in which you will NEVER want to experience her again. On the other side, when respecting Salvia, she will show you what you need to see.

  • @DarthHuru Exactly. They should have taken the salvia.

  • The pharmacologist is really hard headed. I don't think he has any capability of philosophical thinking whatsoever. The psychiatrist on the other hand knows a shit load more about perception than a guy who knows about chemical interactions. You may know how something works without doing it, but you won't know what it does until you use it yourself.

There is no way to describe the effects of salvia divinorum unless the person describing the experience had tried it themself.

  • @ISeeYouAteOneAmI i agree, he wuz pissing me off the whole tyme hahaha

  • I encourage everyone to buy cuttings of Salvia and grow it at your home, learn how to propagate plants (that is when you cut a piece off and clone the plant.. it's rather easy) Salvia will become illegal by unlawful laws which take away ones right to religious freedom. It is happening in all states! Anyone who appreciates this plant please buy a plant and take good care of it! If they try to take it from you sue them for infringement on your religious rights (Assuming you use it for that)

  • They should try like 10x trip. They cant really find out anything from observing trip from leaf. When you take leafs you just have a weak feeling of it and laugh, real trip is much more intense

  • I can't compare since I've only ever chewed the dry leaves, but I would say that it's not an insignificant trip... still illuminating and gratifying, still a sense of communication with a different consciousness... And just intense enough to feel quite safe.

  • that's true, you can't really describe it at all. Thinking about my trips and trying to remember them is like remembering a dream. I really can't describe the experience, and any attempt I would make at describing it would not do the experience justice at all.

  • they're arguing over something that's completely comprehensible until death

  • AHHAAHHAHAHHAA

  • The suppression of the natural human fascination with altered states of consciousness and the present perilous situation of all life on earth are intimately and causally connected. - Terence Mckenna, Food of the gods

  • Give that Fucker wearing the jars' a dose of 120x and wipe that smug fuckin grin of his face. The repressesed cunt

  • essentially the people who took the salvia know more then the psychologists trying shove opinions in the already experienced, ahahah shamanism over psychology any fucking day

  • word.

  • The John dude is one of those people who tell you how it is yet never actually do anything. He claimed his view of reality is all there is and anything else is a distortion of reality(retard). Explaining how a toxin connects to these cells in this way is how it needs to be understood is incomplete and not connected to how a person experiences it. The how is in the experience not in the chemistry. Chemistry alone can not explain how the brain works.

  • i think the square beard guy should smoke it and then see how he thinks about it

  • dude....i seriously wanna smack that john cunt, what does he mean its not beneficial, they achieved a great insight into themselves and the nature of existence...that can lead to many positive philosophical spiritual understandings to improve who you are as a person...

  • that john guys a twat, he doesnt seem to grasp the idea of what they had experienced. everyone else seemed to get an idea of the vibe it gave you apart from him, and he kept arguing everyones point...

  • The pharmacologists is wrong in the sense that Yes the plant probably did evolve to produce Salvinorum A to keep predators away much like Cannabis does. However Another way in seeing it is, Salicylic acid which has been used since antiquity as a NSAID(non steroidal anti inflammatory drug) which found in willow bark and made inside one when one uses aspirin, is also made when the tree feels threatened. Paracelsus said it best as ''The dose makes the Poison''.

  • are they like psychologists?

  • beard guy is ignorant

  • the "scientist" cant really explain anything since he hasnt done it. telling other people what they saw and whats real and what isnt is not scientific. everyone who's done it seems to say that its away to see parralell realities not a change in the current one.

  • Wow that john guy is an ignorant close minded indoctrinated fool.

  • John the pharmacologist revealed a great deal about the position he holds with regards to salvia divinorum, in that he used the term "psychotomimetic", or 'mimicking psychosis'. I often feel that the pitfall with taking this viewpoint is that it places a negative bias on one's approach to the plant/chemical from the very start. I suspect that John the pharmacologist and I would probably disagree in many respects, and I also think he would ridicule Huxley's 'Doors of Perception' with a passion...

  • Why dont those pussy scientis just stop talking like they know what those guys went trew and justsmoke it. Thincking their all smart......bithe as scientist

  • thats why forests brun down cause the damn long haired hippie and de newbie where fuckin high as shit and they cared less for the forest..imagine now driving a car, or even operate something more complex than just sitting in a forest

  • scientist should stop being pussies and try it! ha.

  • They spent so long trying to describe something which is much more easily summed up in an image.

If anyone has ever seen those images which can look like two different things depending on how you look at it, that's basically what they meant, except you are looking at "normal" things and experiencing what they could conceivably be if you forget for a moment the idea that you already know what it is.

  • Science is about trial and error, Not One mans oppion of what he percieved it to be. He took no interest in recieving any outside points of view. He doesnt have to agree it is benificial to use, but he surely he can aggree that the experiences these 2 men had did project a more crisp image of heir past, as well as there inner being. Please dont argue for the sake of arguing..

  • The one man had 1 mind set before the experiment took place. He would be the man in the early 1900's who argued to the death that humans would not be able to travel to the moon. besides him, the others exchanged the data they have collected very well, in an open minded setting.

  • The western scientific approach still amazes me. I understand it, but it's like these scientist are licking the outside of the honey jar trying to discover what honey tastes like. What ever happened to bold explorers. They look like fearful curious monkeys pocking at something to understand it.

  • lol theres this whole 'good guy bad guy' thing going on, where the open minded guy is arguing for and the social norm guy is afraid and arguing against.... love the dialog - like characters in a book!

  • "We don't know what it is...We don't know what it does...It's poison." Cognitive dissonance much?

  • Take it yourself then decide jerk.

  • That psychiatrist is a jerk. He didn't even use the right word - he said "psychomimetic." The actual word is "psychotomimetic" which is a word coined by early psychiatrists trying to describe LSD or other hallucinogens as "imitating psychosis."

  • Glad to see you know your terms! However Psycomimetic is actually a word, unfortunatley it means virtually the same thing as Psychotomimetic. They are both used in reference to a substance that causes psychosis or symptoms that are characteristics of psychotic afflictions. Thanks for this video!

  • 'That psychiatrist is a jerk. He didn't even use the right word - he said "psychomimetic." '

    that's pretty hostile.

  • very interesting, gotta try this

  • Yeah innit thats true, and they only talk about memeory retrieval. there is more to salvia than that like OOBE's, Insight into reality and life.

  • It's very interesting research but I don't like how they concentrate on its potential toxicity and health risks, rather than attempting a more dynamic explanation of the psychological, to the point of spiritual, effects. They don't seem to go too deep into what it could possibly be for; there must be a natural reactive mechanism for the chemical.

  • Just spreading some information for those that might need it. If you want to know more about salvia, and want to get a totally free sample. justsayonce-DOT-com You can get a free sample of salvia (seriously it's free), but you must be over 18. Ok, enjoy : D
