hey, thanks a lot for this nice video! I would really love to hear that pedal in a track with two or more guitars played through the pedal. I´ve read somewhere that these amp emulations allegedly tend to sound less authentically when several of those get added in a mix. Can you confirm anything of such a statement? Do you maybe have a recording where you play several guitars through the liverpool? That would be really amazing!
Thank you very much for a really great video! I have the same pedal but your video and sound really push me forward! Can you tell me please what exactly TV JONES are in your guitar? Classics? I've upgdated my Squier Jagmaster with TV JONES POWERTRON and POWERTRON PLUS but for now i'm start thinking that it was mistake–Classics has more tone that i love. If they are "Classics" is bridge one "plus" or just regular "classic" ? Thanx again!
Hope you get as much use out of this pedal as I do, all the Vox tones you need are in there(my other vid compares it to my two real Vox amps). Can be wee bit of work getting the tone you want as the controls are all so sensitive, but now I've had some time with the pedal I'm getting the hang of how to reach the tone I'm after and I posted the vid to give an idea of settings for various tones. The Brown Sugar guitar is a 335 copy made by Country that I've had for 25 years and it's flatwound.
I just ordered a Liverpool pedal cos of this vid. Amazing! Got the same guitar - I think - as you on "brown sugar" - really hope I can emulate the tone as well as you did. Ps you should be on commission
i need to change guitar with single coil and humbucker not EMG pickup for using the great sound of my liverpool, maybe i check for a Red special or a rickenbacker.
great gear, great playing. thanx a lot! but... can you compare it with LINE6 vox's emulators? (insight PODxx). i love POD, but not really satisfied enouph with their VOX's "heads"
The output from the pedal goes straight to digital multitrack. There is a little reverb from the mixer, but other than that it's just a direct from the pedal.
One question: all distorted sounds seem to have a background noise, like high pitched papery sound or something. Is that the complain I've heard about the sansamp distortion?
Well done demo. You did the pedal justice. We need more of this type of product demos. You are a great player and use a nice pick of guitars. Love the Beatles tones.
Hi, great demo, really enjoyed the tones you got out of this device. Have you had any problems with excessive hum when recording direct like you are doing? I also read that Tech21 recommends delay effect after the pedal, assume that's what you did for the U2. Cheers
It gives a really clean signal DI. You only notice hum when you really crank the drive and character right up...same as anything else.
Delay before or after pedal depends on the effect you're looking for. For the U2 song the signal path was guitar - delay - Liverpool i.e. the delay before the LIverpool, as if you were playing a pedal into a real amp. Now that I've had the Liverpool a few months I'm really getting the hang of how to use it. Fantastic little box.
The pedal seems to do some kind of speaker compression simulation which does a good job of making it seem 'loud'. The guitar for I used Electric Co. was the 335 copy I used for 'Brown Sugar'. Edge uses his Explorer on the version of Electric co. on Under a Blood Red Sky LP and DVD, which gives a much thicker overdriven sound that suits the Vox.
I'm amazed at the quality of this pedal. I run it like a distortion pedal in my chain and it's still amazing. If you want the screaming Brian May tone, this is it.
This pedal sounds amazing! When paired with the correct guitar you're pulling off some nearly perfect imitations. Great job with this video. What kind of guitar is that first black one... Danelectro? If so, can you tell me the model? Thanks! Keep up the great demos!
DeArmond M75T, although it's had a few modifications : pair of Gretsch Filtertrons, a rosewood bridge and bypass on the tension bar on the trem. DeArmonds are pretty well kept secrets....it's beautifully made, although it was too toppy with the original pickups. Paired with a Vox it's perfect. Also got an X500 and it's an amazing guitar. Both of them are the original issue before Fender bought over Guild.
Yup, I've got a DeArmond as well. It's just a M-65 model, but considering how cheap they are, I haven't been able to find a guitar that feels so amazing unless I go over the $2,000 mark. =) Great vid.
It's the old (black) D.L.A. I have which doesn't have the extra features like tap tempo. The tone and flutter controls really warm up the tone to give it a nice analogue effect. It's really intuitive, totally functional and easy to use. No plugging through menus, just 5 rotary controls and no un-necessary extras.
Wow, that was amazing, you even showed the settings!
Thanks for demoing this straight into the recorder. I would have thought the clean sounds were going thru an amp, which is just the AC30 recording trick I was looking for. I have a Tec21 Sans Amp for my bass. No modeling software has ever even come close to it - they all sound kind of flat, which is why I'm interested in this for guitar. Thanks again for sharing.
Nice demo! Just wondering to get some overdrive(sound) from my '65 AC30 at living room levels-> Did you try the liverpool together with the AC30 as well and did that work ?.
Haven't tried the Liverpool through the AC30, but doubt if it'll sound good. Either use the Liverpool through a PA or through a 'flat' amp like an acoustic (e.g. AER) or even a transistor amp like a Peavey. If you want a decent overdriven sound through an AC30 at sensible volume, try using a Boss Blues Driver Pedal. It overdrives, but retains the characteristic sound of the amp.
My main amps are a '63 AC30 and '97 AC15, both with Blue speakers. The Liverpool gets a convincing rendition of these amps and the different inputs on the AC30.
The Character control is complex. As you turn it up, the sound becomes warmer, more richly 'class A' overdriven and 'louder'. I use it as a tuning control to match the guitar to the amp without having to mess around with finding the right balance between the 3 tone controls.
At some point I'll mic the Voxes and demo to compare.
Great demo mate - really demonstrates the capabilities of these little units.
I have a British Character and spent this morning comparing it to my amp cranked up through two different speaker simulators - the Palmer PDI-03 and a Sequis Elemental. I have to say that the Tech 21 unit stands up extremely well - at far less cost and far less fuss!
Have to get me a Liverpool though, after your demo...
Excellent demonstration: thank you. I like that you show the settings too. I have been playing one live for about 7 months, but I don't really alter my settings over the course of a gig.
No amp, no mic. Output from pedal recorded direct to Fostex MR-8 digital multitrack as single mono track. MR-8 has no EQ and I used the very basic on-board reverb on the MR-8. Only other effect was front-end digital delay pedal for the U2 tracks.
... sudden urge to listen to U2 for some reason... lol

Your "Brown Sugar" it is fare fare away from Keith Richards neither studio or live.
As with T21 Sans it goes much better with California.

@Tripipuchis That sounds like nasty digital distortion, probably coming from overdriving the interface he was plugging into with a level too high.

I got this pedal too
and think it is the best in the chracter series - next is the british model
funny enough I did not find the blonde doing it for me - too much boom
and liverpool is both great for rythm playing and soloing...
Thanks for demo I'll try some of your settings

I've only ever used a compressor or blues driver with the Liverpool, but I'm guessing a treble booster on the front end would probably work OK.
