@30CALM1 I was on the Mauser site yesterday and I saw that they have a rifle called the M 98. They say it is built on the classic Mauser action but I was wondering...is it the same action as the Mauser 98s and 98ks used in the world wars? I was looking into new production .308 iron sighted bolt action battle rifles (battle as in not a weak hunting-type rifle, a tough as nails rifle like those in the world wars) and stumbled upon Mauser's site.
FINALLY SOMEONE THAT LOADS THE DAME THING LIKE ITS MENT TO BE lol LOAD STRIPPER AND PUSH DOWN LET THE BOLT THROW THE CLIP OUT so many ppl pull it out i have brass strippers i love the ping lol anyway i do think the 2000 yrds is crazy but i have pulled it off with the iron sights ONE TIME in my life hard as fuck with wind variables included and terrain
Nice video m1. Mine's a byf 44 as well, and it's a duffle cut GI bringback. Unfortunately, there is no way a cleaning rod will fit and the bayonet lug is chiseled off. Mine is strange because the barrel bands, stock, and handguard match, but the entire bolt, floorplate, and barrel are a different number, though matching.
ERIKA!! its a beautiful song... my grandma sing it often... her dad died in ww2... well i like the storys about him.. its very nice to listen to her..
@3OCALM1 Oh I was referring to the misgivings some people have with Mitchell Mauser, not Mausers themselves. And dont be so hard on yourself, that is a great looking rifle sir.
@3OCALM1 The stock mine came with was kind of shitty so I bought the one it has now but even it needed refinshed. I refinished it, the stock, replaced a few screws, and bought that sling and front sight hood that it has somewhere. It took a while to get it where it is. The Mithcell Mausers that I've seen have pretty much been in cherry condition (or restored to that) right out of the box and the price tags reflect that.
@3OCALM1 hi!! hey nice rifle! : me too have a mauser k98 it's a berlin lubecker maschinenfabrik produced in 1940 and it's my favourite rifle, one question: you fire in your local fire range? or is it your private fire range? because i want to shoot in a place place like your because i don't like to fire at close...sorry for bad english greetings from italy!
@olasalofan4ever91 it's a gun club in the county i live in here in florida. I wish I could shoot at home but there's too many people and not enough space.
I have watched so many reviews of rifles that Americans have done and rarely do they show the groups at different ranges! One of the many things that make a great rifle review video on youtube. Thank you!
@3OCALM1 I have a dou 43 Mauser 98k and the bolt overrides the the follower. Is this normal? The rifle numbers all match except the bolt but all the numbers on the bolt are the same so I would say the follower is a dou 43 follower as well.
@slickrickpresident possibly somome who owned it before you replaced the follower with a commercial one that does not stop the bolt after the last round. That or modify the existing military issue one.
@3OCALM1 Yea i guess those are about the only possibilities, but i do like the way it is now. Its not as combat effective but i can open the bolt all the way when im just dicking around.
@polkyys given that when it was being made German cities and factories were having the shit bombed out of them and the ugency to get them produced was very high it's a remarkably well made product.
Mine is a post WW2 Preduceze 44 Yugoslav rebuild. I restored a 24/47 and wound up trading for the K98k. When I got under the crud and wear, I essentially had a nearly new rifle. It cleaned up nicely and I wound up doing a cold blue on the whole thing.
@3OCALM1 I use Birchwood Casey's cold blue in a tube. It comes in a white tube and sells for around $5-6 or so at most gun shops or sporting goods stores. I tried the three stage chemical blue ( acid, blue, then finish) and I didn't get good results. The Birchwood Casey paste works great. Simply clean the metal well ( or sand it ), apply the bluing paste, wait around 24 hours or so, wipe it down and lubricate. It's just that simple. On my 98k , it gave me a nice blued patina.
@fawakamaha Depends on which varient and where it's from. I know the Swedish M96 has a straight bolt handle but the later Swede M38 has a bent handle. Yugo Mausers are like that too: The M48 is bent but the M24 and M24/47 are straight.
All the German Mausers I remember ever seeing had bent handles. A shitload of countries used the Mauser back in the old days. Even the M1903 Springfield is a US made Mauser varient, beleive it or not
@MegaMetalXLR J&G Sales has them now for $299. They are Russian reworks the same as mine. They also have some Yugo M24/47's for $180 and Aim Surplus has some Czech Vz-24's for $210. Both the M24/47and Vz-24 are pretty much K98k's with some differences including a more attractive price tag. I cannot attest to the condition of those ones in particular because I haven't seen them.
@USMCM249gunner It didnt come with the rifle but it looks like it might be from that era. I think I picked it up at a gun show. Also the bayonet is the one that came with my Yugo M48.
@3OCALM1 good news the war ended in1945 unless it dosen't have the third reichs eagle and a swaztika. i hope your happy or not with the best bolt action rifle to come out of the land of germany.
@hatemf23 Because I'm a retard. No, what it is is the receiver is dated '44 and I wanted to use a WW2 intro for the video. Close enough I guess..........
@hatemf23 It was made in 1944, and was probably dismantled or broken, so parts may have been original, but it some parts were transplanted from other rifles or remade. Hence the RE build.
The Kar98K Bolt action rifle. the Greatest Rifle Build By Humans. And i am pretty sure about that. even a 10 Year old can operate it if you tell him how to do so. Lee Enfields for isntance were Used by Kids in Afghanistan in the 1980'ies and they were deadly snipers!

you should get a cleaning kit that was made for it. 50 bucks for a 1938 one, 20 bucks for post war.
I found this rifle at my grandfather's attic last week, I really dont know where he got it. The only thing I know is that is german and it has engraved the svastic flag. I wonder if it is worth some money....
It seems to depend on what year the ammo was made. My understanding is that there was a particularly bad batch made in 1947 but there might be other bad lots, too.
All that I've ever had was 1939-1940 and it has been pretty decent for how old it is. Not the best but good enough for blasting ammo. I haven't found any neck cracks or at least I didnt notice any.
Beautiful rifle ! I need to get me a mauser before they get too expensive. Next summer after I earn some cash at my summerjob, i'll go get one :) Looking forward to it already !
and i guess you were a former recon sniper or designated marksman, cause i can hear you hold your breath every time you take a shot which is distincitve for that kind of MOS
i want that rifle, i might buy it someday buy right now im saving up for a m40a4 sniper rifle with big scope on it, i've allways bin interested in german rifles, i have a g36c too, in my oppinion its better then an m16, but i prefer the bushmaster REC 7 to carry into combat, nothing like american engineering to use on our troops eh? anyway, beautiful rifle, just wanting to know how much a good rifle thats ready to fire costs
have you shot any other mausers? i have i turkish one and i love that thing!! straight bolt handle though. im just curious about the diferences in handeling. they are esentialy the same rifle. but, mine has the straight bolt handle, and is alot longer. ive been thinking about geting a 98k though. i love the stripper clip system. its so much more reliable and beter than any other that i know of.
I have an M48 and a Swedish M96, too. The Swede has a straight bolt handle like your Turk.
There is a difference between the straight and bent bolt handles but I can't really say I prefer one over the other. The straight one might be a little less ergonomic at the top of the rotational arc since it's straight up but I don't notice it very much when I'm shooting it.
Stripper clips are okay but sometimes the top or bottom round can come out if you handle them too rough.
If it doesn't already have holes drilled and tapped in the reciever for a scope, and this one doesn't, I'm not going to put threaded holes in it just to put a scope on it.
I have other scoped rifles so this one doesn't need to be.
Mine is a Russian re-work and even though it has original markings and waffenamts none of the serial numbers match. To get one that's matching would cost A LOT more.
I wonder what would have happened had the Nazis not committed the atrocities they did. What type of world would we live in? My guess is they would have lead the world in technology, since we the US and Russia took their technology and best scientists to further advance our own tech.
theres a good chance im wrong, in fact id put money on me being wrong, but i think that the nazi regime helped advance german engineering and technology. so the german engineering wouldnt be where its at without the nazis. would it be worth losing the technology to save the 6 million jews? i think so. also i know for sure Volkswagon wouldnt be here if the nazis didnt exist.
you wish, the Karabiner 98K was shorter and better for soldiers to use, mosin nagant was longer and the bolt most of the time always stuck, kar98 had smooth action. mosin nagant sometimes had that hot stuff hope out receiver. kar98 had bent bolt and better aiming system with a blade front sight instead of a stupid front sight post Kar98 >>>>>>>mosin. in my opinion Kar98K is probably the best bolt action rifle with a full stock
Don't confuse the Wehrmacht with the Nazi party. For the most part the Wehrmacht treated imprisoned soldiers with kindness, and honour. it was the S.S. and the Gestapo that really live up to that horrible reputation.
Beautiful! What a great range. Interesting how the diffent ammo really affects grouping. I have 1000 rds of Soviet war stock ammo - every 2nd round is a misfire...maybe it would work better in my Mg34.
i agree with you absolutely about prefering an M1!!
That 1953 Yugoslavian ammo had enough missfires to be mildly annoying but not enough to say to hell with it. The 1939 Turk rounds have a lighter bullet (154 gr I think) and a higher velocity.
You really ought to do a shooting video on that MG-34. If I had one of those or an MG-42 I'd go broke buying ammo!
Wish I was. Good law, eh? We get vetted up the arse by the Police to ensure that we are 'fit and proper' owners, but we can't shoot 'em. Even on a gazetted range, under supervision of an organised event. So what do you think we do? Sneak off into the bush and shoot 'em - and break the law...........
You are good!

I haven't bought any lately but you might try Aim surplus.
Surplus ammo is the cheapest but it's going to be corrosive and *might* have deteriorated some with age.
Commercial ammo is common enough and non-corrosive but its gonna cost more.

Beautiful rifle ! I need to get me a mauser before they get too expensive. Next summer after I earn some cash at my summerjob, i'll go get one :) Looking forward to it already !

and i guess you were a former recon sniper or designated marksman, cause i can hear you hold your breath every time you take a shot which is distincitve for that kind of MOS

no need to be a sniper, i do the same...

well, there's allways a slight chance someone is on my regiment without me even knowing it, thats why I asked

i want that rifle, i might buy it someday buy right now im saving up for a m40a4 sniper rifle with big scope on it, i've allways bin interested in german rifles, i have a g36c too, in my oppinion its better then an m16, but i prefer the bushmaster REC 7 to carry into combat, nothing like american engineering to use on our troops eh? anyway, beautiful rifle, just wanting to know how much a good rifle thats ready to fire costs
tecna64 2 years ago
have you shot any other mausers? i have i turkish one and i love that thing!! straight bolt handle though. im just curious about the diferences in handeling. they are esentialy the same rifle. but, mine has the straight bolt handle, and is alot longer. ive been thinking about geting a 98k though. i love the stripper clip system. its so much more reliable and beter than any other that i know of.
junglelover287b 2 years ago
I have an M48 and a Swedish M96, too. The Swede has a straight bolt handle like your Turk.
There is a difference between the straight and bent bolt handles but I can't really say I prefer one over the other. The straight one might be a little less ergonomic at the top of the rotational arc since it's straight up but I don't notice it very much when I'm shooting it.
Stripper clips are okay but sometimes the top or bottom round can come out if you handle them too rough.

If you find a Swedish Mauser at a good price think seriously about getting it. They are very well made and accurate.
Mine was made in 1904 and it's still an excellent shooter.

Scope it!!!!
Jaywasaki 2 years ago
Why????
3OCALM1 2 years ago
why not?
Jaywasaki 2 years ago
If it doesn't already have holes drilled and tapped in the reciever for a scope, and this one doesn't, I'm not going to put threaded holes in it just to put a scope on it.
I have other scoped rifles so this one doesn't need to be.
Besides, I didn't see a scope on your Mauser.

@3OCALM1 very nice video..i need to get a K98k. How much are they nowadays?
rrhoadstributeplayer 2 years ago
you can get your average k98k for about 180 to 200 bucks at gun shows.
Warnerator 2 years ago
Thanks for the compliment!
Mine is a Russian re-work and even though it has original markings and waffenamts none of the serial numbers match. To get one that's matching would cost A LOT more.

This is my second favorite rifle and i cant wait to get another mauser soon!
BAGboy0032 2 years ago
If you're into Mausers look into the Swedish Mausers, too.
They are probably the best in terms of quality and accuracy.

something else cool you should do a review on if you have one is the swiss schmidt rubin k31.

I have one and I might do a review of it sometime.

Haha, Israel used this rifle for 30 years. They know who makes the best weapons, even if they don't admit it.

I wonder what would have happened had the Nazis not committed the atrocities they did. What type of world would we live in? My guess is they would have lead the world in technology, since we the US and Russia took their technology and best scientists to further advance our own tech.
CapSlapAHoe 2 years ago
theres a good chance im wrong, in fact id put money on me being wrong, but i think that the nazi regime helped advance german engineering and technology. so the german engineering wouldnt be where its at without the nazis. would it be worth losing the technology to save the 6 million jews? i think so. also i know for sure Volkswagon wouldnt be here if the nazis didnt exist.

The M1 was and still is better. Honest
MrGunsplosion 2 years ago
The Mosin Nagant is still better. Honest
lolrofl5 2 years ago
you wish, the Karabiner 98K was shorter and better for soldiers to use, mosin nagant was longer and the bolt most of the time always stuck, kar98 had smooth action. mosin nagant sometimes had that hot stuff hope out receiver. kar98 had bent bolt and better aiming system with a blade front sight instead of a stupid front sight post Kar98 >>>>>>>mosin. in my opinion Kar98K is probably the best bolt action rifle with a full stock

While i always feel disgust at WWII german soldier pics, i can't argue about the K98 being one of the finest rifles ever built.
I would rather like to have one. But still, it's too much of a reminder of so many dreadful things.

I have 1000 rds of Soviet war stock ammo - every 2nd round is a misfire...maybe it would work better in my Mg34.
i agree with you absolutely about prefering an M1!!
kiwitedferny 2 years ago
That 1953 Yugoslavian ammo had enough missfires to be mildly annoying but not enough to say to hell with it. The 1939 Turk rounds have a lighter bullet (154 gr I think) and a higher velocity.
You really ought to do a shooting video on that MG-34. If I had one of those or an MG-42 I'd go broke buying ammo!
3OCALM1 2 years ago
I would if I could! Unfortunately, the law here allows us to OWN the weapons, but not FIRE them (if they are automatics).
kiwitedferny 2 years ago
You have got to be shitting me!
3OCALM1 2 years ago
Wish I was. Good law, eh? We get vetted up the arse by the Police to ensure that we are 'fit and proper' owners, but we can't shoot 'em. Even on a gazetted range, under supervision of an organised event. So what do you think we do? Sneak off into the bush and shoot 'em - and break the law...........
kiwitedferny 2 years ago
as always very well done i will have a new gun vid out with in the week
