  • she is not a contralto!

  • This is the first time I have hear her sing Bach. She sings it beautifully.

  • Bartoli is a mezzo-soprano who happens to have some impressive soprano notes in her range as well. I don't know if I'd call her a contralto, though I guess contralto and mezzo are more or less interchangeable.

  • @AgnesRegina a true contralto is very rare. Ewa Podles. No one else that I can think of. Meredith Arwady.

  • @drbarbarabaker sara mingardi

  • oh my god cecilia! SOOOO beautiful!

  • who is cohntralto????? Cecilia is everything but NEVER a contralto: Contralto is not about the color, it's about the range, a soprano is because of the range as soprano.

Such bullsiht about the color is still running throug the world. This aria is not at all low, the tessitura is much higher than the agnus dei (the lowest tone is a c sharp, that's why it' sometimes sung by an other singer. it's for a second soprano, today often a mezzo.

  • Shas a beautiful contralto voice . She has an incredible versatile voice which enables her to excel in everything she sings inlcuding coloratura, lyrical and dramatic.

  • If you indicates my comments as spam you are coward people. Listen to Sara Mingardo singing this same score, she is what in Italy we call CONTRALTO. Bartoli is a foxy non-philological girl !

  • I love Bartoli; she's dramatic, expressive, lyrical, brilliant.

But I like this piece faster and lighter, especially given the character of the altos' Agnus Dei, later in the mass...

who am I anyway to criticize "die schönste Mezzo-Sopranstimme "? (how well put!)

  • Nah - that doesn't work for me

  • she's a fake contralto, I prefer when. she sings opera with her real soprano voice.

  • @waitingforgodot696: ...but also in opera she only had HER voice, an this is contralto (it only means, her colour of voice is contralto - she sings that high, than a soprano)

  • @differently28

this is not opera this is baroque

  • @waitingforgodot696 orfeo and euridice is a baroque opera jajajaja

  • @waitingforgodot696 she is not a soprano...she is a mezzo soprano coloratura, wiht a ruge range...but she is a mezzo muack!!!

  • @waitingforgodot696 she is a mezzo

  • Surprises me a little that she shows so much wondeful low scale feeling here, since I considered her to be one of those over the top opera singers that was not subtle enough for tackling the greatest of them all, Bach.

    5, nein 10 Sterne!!!
