CBS never gave "The Jeffersons" a proper series finale. The cast, bitter that they never got a chance to say goodbye, reunited years later for a stage play based on the sitcom. Sherman Hemsley said he found out the show was canceled by reading it in the paper. Isabel Sanford found out via a phone call from her sister who'd read about it in a trade publication.
But she did realize how wrong she was. I do LOVE! Mother Jefferson's delivery, though in saying to Jenny that she she see to LOUISE never forgetting it...rofl My great-grandmother was just like Mother Jefferson to her daughters-in-law (all my mom's aunts by marriage...she was my grandmother's mother).
Oh, yes. She'd zap them with one of her zingers and, then (when she had them livid) she'd look all innocent with those sad hound dog eyes, replying with, "All I said was..."
Her sons could do no wrong (even though one of them was liquored up much of them because of shellshock from World War II). THAT! daughter-in-law was on the receiving end of most of Gram's barbs.
Between 6:08-6:09 listen carefully there is someone in the audience that hollared "You!" when Louise said to herself "She sounds like... like..." it's loud and clear.

When Zara Cully died during the 1977-1978 season it was decided to write Mother Jefferson off the series by having her die as well.

I could just imagine a catfight between Mother Jefferson and Grandma Walton. They'd be at each other's throats in an instant!
