  • The music that we hear in the modern day Arab and Turkish world, all derive from the Greek Byzantine tone ladders. The Arabs were fascinated by the musical style of the Greeks and their culture, they took those elements and created their own twist but nonetheless it remains Greek in it's core.

  • How about Elios?

    How about a phonetic transiteration?

  • Actually bellydancing existed in both Greek and Persian civilization in ancient times. It is when Alexander the Great conquered the east when Greeks, North Africans, and Persians intermarried and shared cultures that bellydancing developed into what it is today. So bellydancing is not uniquely Greek, Arabic, or Persian, it is an Eastern Mediterranean dance as a whole. And it is definitely not from Turkish origin, the Seljuk Turks arrived much later in this region.

  • αν εχεις καποιο στοιχειο οτι εχει οποιαδηποτε καταβολη απο ελλαδα ο χορος της κοιλια και το τσιφτετέλι...πηγαινε σε οποιοδηποτε πανεπιστημιο και παρε την εδρα της ιστοριας.....τα αλλα να τα λες στους τσιφτετέλληνες

  • nive music but htat dancer shoudent be there looks like f.... turkish but for the music i give the greece +10

  • we all come from basically the same culture people! greece, turkey, arabs. greece and turkey used to be part of the middle east before they were considered to be european countries. we all have the same food/music/dancing/similar language and characteristics!

  • Greek and Turkish language the same or ssimilar !!! You obviously went to the "sun language" school.

    Turkish was written in script and is now written with Latin characters. It has no similarity to Greek whatsoever, other than words which came from Greek through Arabic. i.e., via the Choran.

  • leonis53 yeap I agree. But the greek words you may have in turkish didn't come through the coran, don't forget you conquered us. We took something from you, you took something from us. As far as I know the coran doesn't have all that many words that derive from greek, and in general arab

  • Even the word ISRAEL is greek

    IS=ISHIROS

    RA=VASILIAS (RA also in Ancient Egyptian)

    EL=ILIOS

    Strong Sun King (DO you get it ???)

  • that is not a word but almost a full sentence leonis53 (about Israel)

  • Listen, I am for brevity.

    If I could explain it with less words I would have.

    Why don't you comment on the substance, rather than the content. i.e., Do you think it is true?, if not, what is true?

    Do you like the expalnation?, if not, why not?

  • you want a comment? Well, IS are the first 2 letters of Ishiros--> abbreviation(??), even in ancient greek RA doesn't even exist, βασιλευς is the king in ancient greek, how can EL be produced from Ηλιος (Hlios/Ilios)???

  • greece and turkey never belonged to the middle east before becoming european. they were greece and turkey, before that greece was conquered by the turks, and before that greece was Byzantium. Turkey didn't exist back then. And before Byzantium, there was ancient Greece. In which part exactly were both countries part of the middle east???

  • You need to read the book "Jewish is Greek" (and Arabic). Which was written by a Columbia University acdemic in 1986, All printed copies dissapeared.

    Back then the Internet did't exist. So, they never counted on someone posting it on the internet.

    Talk about conspiracy theories.

  • Turkey is not a Euriopean country. It has a part which is physically in Europe.

    Turkey is an Asian country physically, culturally, linguistically, and in every other respect.

    The fact that it writes with Latin characters means nothing. Latin characters weren't used in the Ottoman Empire. It is a recent adaptation.

  • Where do you learn your history from ????

    How do you think the New Testament came to be written in Greek ????

    They spoke Greek in that part of the Roman Empire in those days. The Roman Emperors studied in Greece (in Greek).

    You obviously visited Troy, where the tour guides tell you that the events of the Iliad happenned during the time of the Ottoman Empire. and all the characters are Turks (LOOOOOOL).

  • you're talking to me??? If so, I'm Greek leonis53, and I do know the history of Minor Asia, not only of Troy. The old and the new Testament I think were written in ancient greek, because back then Greek was the language of the scholars

  • Exactly!!! back then only scholars could read and write!

    Many would say that many words are borrowed from Turkish. or shared with Turkish. The reality is that they originate from Arabic, which probably borrowed from Greek. e.g. Yunan = Greek in Arabic, which comes from the Greek "Ionian".

  • Another example is Arabic "mumptage" which means "well done" or "worthy of congratulation". It comes from the Greek "mempto". Shall I go on ????

  • I repeat I am Greek, and I do know Greek history, there are words that we've taken from the Turks, they may be of arabic origin, but I'm telling you where we got them from, not which is their origin.
